Any guesses for how expensive this is going to get by the end of the auction?
>>11729360beside the hyped "clown of the month=PREMIUM" tag what's the appeal of this?I mean you can get any casting, leave it in the garden for a couple of months and you'd have an authentic eroded look. Is it just mindless consumerism?
>>11729429at that point, treat it like a toyrip my wallet
>>11729691bruh forgot to linkhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CwxTvVKXvLc
My most recent haul, they were in my glovebox for a while and I've only just now gotten to them
I started collecting Disney Cars diecasts. Are there any display cases that fit them? I’ve seen some displays for Hot Wheels, but I think the Cars diecasts are bigger than those.Any ideas?
>>11730006bruh they're celebrating 57 years already?
Anyone got the hw f1?
>>11729694lmaoI wandered in here, and seriously have no idea how rare or valuable that car was (is?) but just having a vague awareness of a guy opening what must be rare... is entertainingand the playful vroom-ish sound effects was perfect
>>11729360Why would anyone buy this
>>11730579Name recognition, more money than sense, a lapse in judgment that may or may not be induced by intoxication. There's many different factors involved.
>>11730081This is why I know I could never be one of those serious mint-in-box hermetically sealed laser tripwire types of collectors. Every time I see people dropping hundreds to thousands of dollars on a supposedly rare/limited edition Hot Wheels car I always think "it's just a toy" and that steamrolls over basically any justification for it. Like for as much as I like the Deora II and want to build a little collection of them, I also can't bring myself to pay $50+ for one.
First pics of the new 10 pack for F1 2025 racers. Thoughts? Coming this fall.
>>11730714They are all same casts. Only recolors.
I'm not getting the sufficient Nearer my God to thee vibes I would have hoped from the color palatte, but a steampunk steam-powered car is pretty cool.
>>11730745Just like the early '00s onesnow speaking of early '00s i wish they'd make the #44 petty's pontiac grand prix always loved its hot wheels livery. The closest thing there's now it's the HW race team color scheme
>>11729360Update: with a little less than a day and a half to go in the auction, we're up to $51 plus $9 shipping.
>>11731401It looks like they made it for the 1997 Pro Racing line. They had a premium version with full details and rubber tires and a basic version with plastic wheels.
>>11731401Speaking of HW race team livery, it looks like this year's recolor of the Renault Espace F1 is going for that type of theme. The HW logo isn't as prominent but the orange chrome rims make it a little more obvious.
Who'd have thought that the Drift Box was based on the Yugo. Apparently 'Dot's HW Drift Shop' is a reference to HW designer Craig Callum's grandmother, who actually owned a Yugo.
Here's a couple of Zurus I got awhile ago. An Abrams tank look-alike called Roll Out and an armored truck called The Beast. The tank being oddly colored and covered in bullet marks reminds me of the old BattleTanx video games, where a bunch of post apocalyptic gangs fight each other using tanks.
>>11731515This made me think, which company does military stuff diecast? Did matchbox ever do that? Also diecast trains?
>>11731564matchbox makes military planes and helicopters
>>11731490A lot of HW's less wacky fantasy castings are based on or inspired by real cars. Like the Hako Type D for example intentionally evokes several popular JDM cars like the AE86 and RX-7.
>>11731572No tanks? Also what about diecast trains? Did no one try something like diecast Thomas but real life trains instead? At that size?
>>11731594I think tomica does some diecast trains, and some other public transport autist asian companies too, I think most accurate trains models are made in 1/87 scale for train sets
>>11731594They did this once
>>11731600>>11731601Tomica also did this one
>>11731601>>11731606I wish they did hot wheels railroad again but I understand why they don't.
>>11731610what casting is that blue truck?
>>11731613nevermind found it, its the hot wheels Ford Stake Bed Truck from 1983
>>11731594Matchbox made the M2 Bradley and the M4 Sherman decades ago. They used to make Humvees with TOW launchers on them too, but at some point they axed the launchers and the most recent versions have been the Jurassic World ones with a grille guard.
>>11731588It literally uses interior from AE86. Also possibly the best fantasy cast they created over last 5 or so years.Already seen dope customs based on Hako Type D.
>>11731601They also reissue that car every couple years.
>>11731610I wish Mattel released expansions for their Rapid Transit series. Some of their trains felt incomplete.
>>11731769>It literally uses interior from AE86.That's amazing, anon, absolutely mindboggling.
>>11730700those fools over at Lego basically pay for a box.hundreds of dollars, they dare not open it to ruin the value. the box is taped closed, with glue. you can't even peek inside to see all the pieces. it might as well be full of rocks that make that noise when you shake it
>>11731769You could slip it in with a bunch of actual period-appropriate JDM cars and it'd feel right at home. I'm normally not one for fantasy castings but it's just too good.
>>11731865>>11731588I think customs does the casting more justice than the og hotwheels one, it really does look like an JDM 80s concept design that made it to production
>>11732030
>>11732030>>11732031To me it feels like a car from 80s or 90s sci-fi anime. And while theres a lot od custom potential...
>>11732178...even just a simple wheelswap does wonders
It also can work well for TEKU
>>11731865And new 2026 recolor fits premium S13
All in all a really great cast, seriously one of the best fantasy cars they released in last decade.
>>11732187I feel like the car looks better without the two tone black
>>11731415Final: the auction ended at $56.
>>11732736If one of the anons here bought that deora in the end, plz let us know (pic included)
How are the pop race cars?
>>11732956better than mini gt, just below inno64
>>11730714i found 2025 (2026 release) mclaren basic and it's 2024 cast with maybe different stickersthese basics f1 cars are shit
>>11732736>$56Well, I can't say I wouldn't pay that for a diecast car because I have. I just don't see the appeal, but different strokes I guess.
Picked up some new nightspeeds today. Got the 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, and the 2018 Honda Civic Type R. I already had the latter in white and this one is green with gold wheels so that's cool.
with the hot wheels matter brick shop sets always coming with a corresponding hot wheels, does that mean we finally gonna get a MK4 Supra with its stock/oval spoiler?Or are they just gonna use the default Supra cast, thinking nobody cares that the brickbuilt and diecast cars have two different spoilers?
>>11734101I'd seen a black Supra with yellow headlights was coming out for silver series this year but didn't hear anything about it being part of a Brick Shop set.
>>11733586>steampunk truckHell i'd blow you to get it. Fuck those fuckers for getting rid of it for some shitty japbox or m3s
>>11734145it would be a massive dissapointment if they just used the regular mk4 cast, but the build had the iconic oval spoiler. How hard would it be to make a cast with the oval spoiler?
>>11734101>>11734145This is it. The build will come with an alternative wing same as that shitty mk4 cast.
>>11734201well reason to buy that lego-kockoff just dropped harder than a brick.I might've given the set a chance if it came with a proper oval spoiler stock supra.
I like the oval wing, but ultimately for me it’s the Top Secret Supra.
>>11732956Comparable to Mini GT.
>>11734160Don't worry anon there is much more affordable alternative available right nowIt's not very good at towing anything though
Which one did it better?Oh who am I kidding we all know the one with the giant graphics card cooler and no side windows isn't it, I just wanted an excuse to put these two together
Some old Chevrolets. Always loved the 47 Fleetline, I'm so glad they're still making these after 20 years.
Matchbox moving parts Porsches, a 1950s-era 356a, and 1964 911 (the actual original 911 model)
>>11734299Engine bays opened. I find that using the corner of a thin piece of cardboard, like the corner of the packaging it comes in, is a safe way to open the hood for the 356a since it sits flush when closed and has tight hinges. The 911's hood is loose so I had to prop the it open with piece of paper.
Another moving parts-the Rover Vitesse SD1. The mirrors were not originally painted silver-I painted them to make it appear more like the chrome mirrors of the real car/boxart.
>>11734305A PSA for anyone who gets one of these-as some youtubers have learned when reviewing these, the hood hinges have a tendency to scratch the headlight decals when the hood is opened in a single motion. I've found that its possible to prevent this by lifting the hinges out before opening the hood completely. To do this, partially open the hood, then grip the hood on its sides and wiggle the hood upwards to pull more of the hinges out. The hinges naturally extend out when the hood is opened, but this method keeps them from rubbing along the headlights.
>>11734315And here is the engine. The V8s on these cars sound very melodic. The strut mounts are printed a little off from the cast detail but this seems to be an error across every example I've seen.
Has anyone here ever had a Charleston Chew? Are they good?
Probably the best the Mod Rod has ever looked. The detailed straps for the trunk really help to make it look more like an ancient rat rod
Another weird food car the Eggshelleracer. It has egg cartons for valve covers-I mean, uh, it has Twin Carton V12 engines. This is the kind of car a MAN drives to work for breakfast. Legend has it Gaston ate 4 dozen of these the morning he took his ASE test.He failed because the ASE minimum requirement is actually 5 dozen.
>>11734344The spoon and egg being metal make it surprisingly top-heavy, and it feels like if the egg were further back it would have been possible to stand the car up on its own like it was doing a wheelie.
>>11734318>>11734305man matchboxes looks so good>>11734299the difference in scale here bugs me tho
>>11734388Yeah, on their own they look ok, but when together it looks like they should swap sizes.
>New box of 72 comes into work:)>It's a last year box:(
>>11734325I've had several of them. They're good, but the nougat is really tough.
Where are the best places to keep up with new releases? Like I feel like whenever I look online or see diecast in a store I'm always surprised when new stuff is there.
Went to a toy show today, picked up these three and a windup motorcycle.
>On the early tomorrow to fork delivery in>Might be some Hot Wheels on it;)
Today I found this RS200, I also bought a couple of kinder eggs
I think the Golf GTI is a good example of how HW castings of real cars, especially "everyday" ones, can be kind of funky. It looks really stylized and cartoony, especially when you look at the size of those wheels
>>11736878>On the early again>Will likely be forking in deliveryGod I love having first dibs. Exotics and nightspeeds WILL be mine.
f1 team sets
>>11737892Yeah, alot of 2000s-era castings had some wonky proportions. I mean look at the differences between the 2006 vs the 2020 AE86.
>>11737892And some of those castings are still being produced today, like this year's 69 Chevelle (although it's a little more extreme example and an X-Raycer). When I saw one of these at the store with the green wheels I thought it'd make a muscle car fan cry. Does the 69 decal at least illicit a giggle? (Don't worry, the next version has normal colored wheels.)
>>11737892Hot Wheels openly admits to changing car proportions to be more "stylized and cartoony". I thought everyone knew this. Making wheels bigger is one of the standard changes made on pretty much every vehicle. Accuracy isn't their foremost objective.
>>11738844Hot wheels designers in the past decade have gotten way more interested in making realistic looking cars, and have gotten better at translating that to 1/64 scale in my opninion. I still love the cartoony models, but there's more of a distinction between them and the "real" cars.
Here is my collection of purple, boxy japanese cars. Please let me know which ones I'm missing. >>11738523I think there's a purple trueno coming to mainline that I definitely need.
Purple trueno
It's to my understanding that as far as real-life vehicles, Hot Wheels is good for high performance or experimental cars, while Matchbox is better for more mundane/blue collar kind of stuff? I may be oversimplifying it.
>>11735343I saw one of those mainline standard karts a while back and I was confused why they'd make a characterless version because I thought the characters were detachable from their karts. Turns out, the character versions are one whole piece and their hands are horrifically fused to the steering wheel.
>>11739216>midnight purple 1986 Nissan 720 with tipping speaker bedCar Tuned made something almost exactly like this except it's an '87 Toyota truck.
>>11735281I see, they're really sweet. Kind of like a gummy marshmallow covered in chocolate, but it tastes similar to a Tootsie roll.If I find a box of Dots gumdrops, I'm gonna see how many I can stack in the bed of this Nissan Junior without them falling over.
Oh yeah, this is definitely... A giant HW Supra. The wheels are fixed on the axels, though, so it rolls forward and backward in a tight line. Also, the specific sound that HW cars make when they roll, (wheel rattle I guess) the XL car makes the same noise except way lower pitched. Like instead of a 'cli-li-li-li' noise its a 'CLU-LU-LU'.
>>11739229Those three spokes look good on almost anything. I might have to keep an eye out for this one. It looks pretty good for a mainline and I've been kind of starting to collect the Trueno. I already have the black variant of the Falken livery and the F&F Premium. Haven't run across that orange one from the Japan Historics set yet.
>>11737166I can't believe that those Kinder eggs are banned in the US despite the fact that King cakes with a tiny plastic baby Jesus hidden inside part of the cake are a yearly Mardi Gras tradition. Anyway, was that RS200 being sold loose? It looks like it has tape on it.
>>11739371Yeah, that's pretty much it. Although both brands have castings of car models that the other hasn't covered.I was surprised to find that neither brand has done a proper Toyota Corolla. And, yes, I know about the 3 that HW made, but 1 of them's an AE86, and the other 2 were premium exclusive and one of those 2 is actually a rebaged Toyota Yaris.
>>11739611Isn't the Corolla E210 actually a rebadged Yaris? Or at least they share the same platform like the Impreza/Crosstrek/Outback?
>>11739611modern corollas are such boring cars I think they'd just warm pegs, I think there is a nostalgia market for <2000s corolla diecasts tho
>>11739612It's more like a shared platform, and E210 was revealed with name 'Auris'. I percieve the GR Corolla/Yaris as being closer to the Yaris than the Corolla because of the 3 cylinder engine and it being a hatchback. Most Corollas I see are the 4 door sedan variant and they've always just used I4 engines.Btw this is a good opportunity to mention that Hot Wheels is releasing a Premium GR Yaris and Matchbox is releasing a Moving Parts GR Yaris.
>>11739694Matchbox Moving Parts GR Yaris>>11739662Strangely, I had a hard time finding the Maisto Corolla. I've never seen it in a single pack, only with 20-packs. I eventually found a 5-pack that had it.
>>11739563>>11739598The candy branding reminded me that matchbox has a peeps beetle out now for easter, I got one at Target. I almost always prefer hot wheels, but the matchbox beetle casting is top tier
Hey guys anyone can help me identify this car (the lime green one)? The jaggy text in the background makes me think the image is AI generated but I cant rub off the feeling that I know this car, it should exists?
>>11740751Google tells me it's the Tooned '68 Mustang, but it's missing an air filter and the exaggerated exhaust pipe. I think your AI senses are correct
>>11740751>>11740913I'm afraid it is AI generated-the jumbled letters are a giveaway, but I'll explain some other weird things I can find. The 'It's not the same without the flame' stamp on the card in the background should not fade out at the bottom, it should be solid all around. It was only used on 2019-2021 cards, but it was only blue for 2021, 2019-2020 were black. I couldn't find a 2021 car that matches the blue one, the closest were some blue Mazdas without side-decals.As for the lime-green car, to me it looks like a mashup of the Roger Dodger and the Gas Monkey Garage '68 Corvette.
>>11740913>Tooned '68 Mustangyeah that's what reverse image search told me too, or it assumed its a Doorslammer. But it's def neither. The "tooned" series are basically chibi-fied cars with huge wheels or windshields, this car seems to have a realtively normal proportion.Closest guess I got to what the AI might've based it on is the " '13 Ford Mustang GT".
>>11740946>Roger Dodger and the Gas Monkey Garage '68 Corvettethose were two of my guesses too, too bad neither has such nice "black stripes on lime green" paintjob. I was thinking maybe its a version of the Blown Camaro, but thats not it either. Thanks anyway, I still look around maybe I find a closer match.
>>11740751100% generated, not a real cast
>>11740958>Roger Dodger and Gas Monkey Garage '68 CorvetteJust for comparison...
>>11739229It looked like something you could make on Need for Speed Underground 2, so I tried.
>>11741016I think the car that made me think I've seen this car before was the 1970 Pontiac Firebird. It has a similar back-end with flush spoiler, and similar general shape with the exception for the front grill.
>>117395639 Dots is all I could stack in... This was way too infuriating, don't try this
>>11741049>ftw I still use NFS UG2 to design my custom Hotwheels before actually making them for real
>>11740949So are the air intakes just sucking air right out of the cabin?
>>11741333I guess irl the front grill would be more open, it would be more about the hot-air from the engine hitting the driver in the faceeither way you look at it, yeah this is a very weird design
>>11739612Does it say something that I've never seen someone behind the wheel of an Impreza or Crosstrek who wasn't a middle aged white woman?
On the Wednesday early shift. Gonna make sure the delivery team puts any new Hot Wheels to one side for inspection ;)
HW toy vs Kaido model, both same designer.
I saw someone in a thread on /tv/ mention that it's strange that there doesn't seem to be any diecast representation of the car from The Wraith.
>>11742492There may not be a diecast of the Dodge M4S, but there is the Hot Wheels K.I.T.T. Concept that has a similar aesthetic. It's a release for this year, so these should have popped up in stores by now.
>>11742522Isn't that like a rerelease of a rerelease though? I swear it's been around for a minute.
>>11742524It's been around since 2022. It's a strange one-it's an original casting that somehow got the Knight Rider license. It wasn't in any of the TV series.
>>11742492That sucks, I wish every vehicle every made has a diecast representation of it no matter how shitty the vehicle is
>>11742541Which is doubly weird given that KITT's traditional Trans Am body has been released in both normal and Super Pursuit Mode forms several times and the normal one has a few variants including KARR. We've even had the Pontiac Banshee that kind of represents the car from KR 2000, but that casting hasn't been seen in years.
>>11729302Does anybody here collect Tomica?
>>11742780I've been wanting to for a while. They've got decent detail for the price point and scale. There's this "Devil Z but not really" Fairlady Z I've had my eye on.
>>11742780just a handful of them, I love this one (I have the premium version atm) but its price is a big nono
>>11742780I have a single Tomica, a Toyota Crown Comfort Taxi with an opening door. The HW Time Attaxi was based on the the Crown Taxi and also has an opening door. This one was from the 2025 spring series so it has a garish pastel color scheme. I'm hoping they rerelease it in black to match the Tomica.
>>11743184This is the rest of the spring set. There are still several of these warming the pegs at the store I got them from a year later.
>>11743184The Time Attaxi is slightly smaller than the Tomica but when compared, the proportions are very similar.
>>11743181I keep forgetting the RS exists. I'm more familiar with the LB-ER34.
>>11743380
Snagged the green version of the '16 Lambo Centenario today after already having the yellow.
>>11743401Fantastic stuff.
>>11743218stolen casting
>>11730006Excellent grabs. Love purple>>11732178Need to grab some bikini girls or ones washing the car if I can find them>>11739216Oh fuck yes. More purp>>11742780Sick display>>11743401Very cool GTRspic related is my personal display on my toolbox at work. Just got the Pop Race Evo IV, I absolutely love it. Posted this on /o/ but the diecast thread is slow and dead
What does everyone recommend or personally use for displaying their collections? I open everything because who gives a shit about "collector value" and I'm rapidly running out of space. Right now all of my cars are just on an empty bookshelf and it definitely doesn't give them enough room to breathe.
>>11743181>>11743380>>11743401That's nice as hellI just have the Tomica small one. I wanna get more that have moving parts like the doors/hoods
>>11743602I fucking love GTRs
