Thought I had a neat idea making thighs out of Mata torsos, but now I can't figure out any good way to make knees that aren't extraordinarily-bulky or barely-usable. The foot/Nuva leg thing is just to add some bulk and curvature to the front, but I suppose I might be able to make use of the free ball joint. Any ideas?
Need to work this shit out>>11731052Side connections
>>11731052Unless you want it to be digitigrade I'm not seeing how you're going to be able to use nuva legs here.
40€ incl. Shipping. Pretty good right?
>>11731052Does this allow for any movement?
>>11731527Reading comprehension?>>11731052Imo you need to go really clean and tight in terms of shaping to make these kinds of MOCs work. And the larger you go in scale the more uncanny it gets.
>>11731554Are you able to move the thighs at all with this build?*
>>11731525short answer yeslong answer your time is valuable so sorting all that out is going to make it a little less of a deal

>>11731667Does the head glow or is it trans? I was never big into Bionicle but I kinda want this lil guy.
>>11731667Looks gay as hell, like all your leaker kind.
>>11731667The box pic makes it look like the eyes are printed, while this clearly doesn't have that. A plain pink head is the second best option to a printed Mata head. The lack of printed arms is unfortunate. Given only the new helmet, it feels like they could have splurged a bit extra onto the arms.
>>11731525Post the update to the order afterwards, but looks good if you get it all
>>11731798Will update when it arrives
>>11731623>>11731527The thighs have a pretty good range of motion forward and back, but with the armor piece on the hips they don't extend much side to side. I can take a picture later after I fiddle with it more.>>11731395Digitigrade could be cool, but obviously I'll still need to do some rigging to keep the nuva leg from flopping and let it support the torso weight. Thanks for the idea.>>11731554I'm inclined to agree with you, and I recognize that these thighs might not allow much clean, tight building to begin with. Still, I think it could be cool if I got it to work. I'll keep trying.>>11731377Yeah
>>11731798Got all of it. Cleaned it and its drying right now. Seems to contain maxilos, irnakk and hydraxon. As well as some mistika toa.

>>11734539how the FIUCK does this guy make thighs?
>>11730528>>11730680>>11730610Yes that's the movie Kraakhan, got super lucky there. The trans green head-thing is from a toothbrush, pretty neat but those aren't really rare. Gold mask is spray-painted, for a second I thought I stumbled upon one of the solid gold ones they gave away, but I'm not that lucky lol.
>>11734374>>11734376CoolI’ll never understand why Lego made the yellow Rahkshi head and spine one piece. They’d be so much more useful if they were separate pieces.

>>11734871>I’ll never understand why Lego made the yellow Rahkshi head and spine one piece. They’d be so much more useful if they were separate pieces.I understand why they did it. Because it's much cheaper to produce one new specialized mold they're never going to use again than producing two separate ones.
>>11734748Kinda, the front two arms are attached to balls on the upper back arms>>11734749can we set up a dog playdate>>11734871I wouldve been fine having the spine and back together and the head seperate if it meant a new rahkshi head color
Haven’t been in this general for a while, hi! Got this EBay haul a year or two ago but today was the first time I opened the box to actually parse through the contents in full and disassemble the intact figures. Most, if not all, Glatorian related pieces were broken, as expected. Found this Ackar in there. Guess the owner really had to Jerry rig this shoulder together. Kinda ingenious imo. They even used red wire to match the colour scheme. Don’t know whether to be shocked or impressed.
>>11735348im rather fond of fixing broken toys myself, usually i just justify it with a lore headcanon like "oh he was hurt in this battle" or something
>>11735348Man that looks like something I'd do to bodge together a broken toy as a kid. I'd just try to fix it with whatever I could find laying around the house.
>>11735348Can the arm pose effectively?
>>11735795Well, it's a string wire that goes straight through the axle holes of the upper arm and then wrapped around the ball joint on the torso. It's not stiff at all, so holding the arm up just makes the arm flop back down. If I took it off and tied it back on tighter, with enough friction, maybe it would work? Also, after looking through the rest of this bin, this guy must've been really rough on his parts because there's a few broken weapons and even CCBS limbs in here. Sheesh!
>>11735953how do you manage to break ccbs lmao
>>11736158Just like all of Lego these days, a lot of the sockets develop hairline cracks from just being connected - you don't even need to play with them rough or excessively or connect and disconnect them too much.
>>11736158I knew a kid that broke technic axles and grind the teeth off gears. Some kids absolutely thrash their shit as if it owed them money.
>>11736570tbf wear and tear is the part of any toys lifecycle, even lego which is supposed to be a bit more durableyes kids should be taught to take better care of their toys but boys will be boystheres not a world where cool buildable figures arent put through the wringer from being subject to so many make believe battles lol
>>11736158Socket joints were just faulty in that era. I don't think I have a single one of picrel that isn't broken. At about the same time there was also a plague going around specific to brown and lime green parts.
>>11736970ok I misread that, this wasn't ccbs
Do you guys think the Bionicle community may die in the coming decade if LEGO doesn't revive the IP?
>>11736986It's been around the last decade, and Lego throws out things like the gwp and now the Tahu CMF, so no, it'll continue to exist. Outside of for the sets, G2 is just about forgotten, but G1 stands the test of time.
>>11736986I think it’ll be like other old toy IPs like that make the rounds on social media to keep up relevance, but the fact that it’s LEGO means it’ll never truly disappear as long as technic and the LEGO company is still around. Also, unlike other toy IPs, Bionicle has the benefit of being a completely customizable toy line so as long as you have pieces, you can create more content for yourself as long as you have the imagination unlike other action figure lines that require new characters and sets to be released.Oh, and Roodaka is such a baddie, she transcended the fandom into pop culture, so that helps.
>>11736686neat
>>11736970People like to blame kids not following the story anymore being what led to Bionicle sales dropping, but I still think this was the problem. When the Mahri came out, I had multiple joints break and decided I was done buying Bionicles.
>>11734892Thank´s for sharing Anon!Just on a side note, anyone know how to search for pic related from the instructions?
>>11737478there were a lot of issues that were piling upkids who weren't already following the story had no idea what was happening the joints had gotten increasingly brittle since 2006, and the sets had also somehow gotten even more samey, with nearly every medium set from 2006 on falling into either the piraka or inika body type, with the only exceptions being some of the barraki the oldheads at lego having a bone to pick with bionicle in particular, iirc they didn't consider it 'real lego' or something to that effect i also personally think that removing the technic function was also a huge loss in the franchise' identity, they perfected it in 2004 with the toa then neutered it in 2005 and dropped it entirely in 2006
>>11737478Also every wave requiring more than >6 molds per wave for the new masks, weapon pieces and armor pieces and again for the villians.
I watched a video today discussing the ravenous fan base that is Bionicle. I dug a little deeper and found fans that would make a 40k fanboy blush. What is Legos reasoning for not rebooting it? It seems like free money. Especially them banking on modern adult toy buyers. I am pretty sure this dude Duck Bricks would sell his soul for a mask no one owns. Genuinely uninformed and curious.
>>11738615While it's not outright confirmed, it's widely speculated/rumored that there's a strong resentment towards the Bionicle brand from Lego's executives because it's not part of the main Lego system and therefor not real Lego. Despite it being the line that saved the company from bankruptcy, the only mention of it in the Lego Movie was a couple frames in a slideshow of Lego worlds that don't need to be mentioned. There were even plans to include Takanuva in the sequel, but those were scrapped too.
>>11738615Genuinely due to a lot of lego designers seething about how popular it is, aka a general veil of spite
>>11738622Any good videos you know of explaining that in more detail? It's a very interesting topic. It takes a lot to get a company to say "no" to free money. > it's not part of the main Lego system and therefor not real LegoAs an outsider with no Lego... it plugs into the Lego hole and has technic, no idea why a person would call it not Lego. I guess because they have a lot of non-standard special parts?>>11738626That's what interests me, it has to be anger, but an anger enough to overshadow money, which is A LOT of anger. And from what I have seen, it's insanely popular. It's like 100 episode lore videos on Youtube before it was a thing. Just crazy to me, from a marketing perspective, they wouldn't want free money.
>>11738622>>11738626I always thought this was such a retarded conspiracy theory. Absolutely zero proof as far as I’m aware. Just salty fans looking for a boogeyman to blame for Bionicle being cancelled.
>>11738629https://youtu.be/99F8kFe9UpoThere's been explanations that making the new molds needed to produce the toys, with at least 12 new characters coming out each year, but Lego's more than willing to make new molds if it's for the sake of their licensed lines. It's probably just more profitable to put all that effort into shoveling new sets towards the Disney adult crowd.
I’m trying to find a post I made on here a bit ago about some weird wheels or lid things included with a bionicle order on facebook, that’s all
>>11738665Nevermind found the listing again, 10 dollars for all of that isn’t too bad for a box and instructions plus those weird lid caps
>>11738673Also some guy’s selling this mini-moc for 5 bucks
>>11738673Pretty sure those are the feet for a Wii Fit board
>>11738693lol i think you’re rightthey really do look like bionicle canister lids though
>>11738775>>11738693I wonder if the hole in the middle can fit an axle or especially a peg to be used as actual wheels, whole thing is only 10 bucks but would have to drive a while to get there
>>11738673i think i bought one of these, they come from krana canisters
>>11738958Also own two of them and Kraata lids are way too small vs the wheel things in the pic, look at how large they are vs the blade there. Have a sticker from it on a monitor btw
>>11738675This is like one of those things people make when they're missing pieces of a complete set and try to cobble something together they can sell with what they have.
>>11738958>>11738962they are definitely from a wii balance board, seller probably thought they were canister lids
I am not a fan of Bionicle although of course I do think they're really cool toys having grown up a bit after Bionicle ended with Hero Factory, I just love the look of the cannisters. Maybe I should take the Bioniclepill after my salary bump this summer.
>>11738992Try building something with the canisters
>>11738992make a mock store shelf and fill it with empty canisters
>>11738995Maybe I could build a fort with them...>>11738998Sounds like fun, but I think I'd prefer just to have a few with genuine toys that I could play with. I was only remarking that the packaging itself was a thing of beauty, even to a Bionicle outsider.
A proto Bionicle came in the mail today
Proto Bionicle came in the mail today
>>11738622i think it's entirely possible they didn't include takanuva because they apparently destroyed all the old molds for the bionicle partsalthough iirc it's standard procedure for lego to trash the machines for the old molds, it wasn't to spite bionicle specifically
>>11738622>Despite it being the line that saved the companystop repeating this cope, star wars saved the company
>>11739186it was the trifecta of star wars, bionicle, and harry potter that saved legohp was the lesser of the three but it still made decent money due to the movies arguably being at their most popular in 2001-2004

>>11738626>spiteI've always thought it was more of a short-sightedness. I feel like much of the direction at Lego is guided by the most boiler plate marketing people who base their entire personality on linkedin or out-of.touch old execs. For any of those two the only IPs are those which are said to be massive hits. Bionicle falls outside that zeitgeist because it's not an established brand (at least because their only frame of reference is the 80s and maybe just because they hear the opinon "80s=good profit", or maybe they understand Nostalgia as only for the 80s because they cannot abstracize that Nostalgia can apply too to people who grew in the 00s too. I meant my words when I said they are shortsighted) nor a new phenomenon like Live Action One Piece or K-Pop Demon Hunters. They look only at the lowest common denominator of playing along a big name that every other brand has without realiizing they can have their own name too.
>>11729519>is effortlessly the leon kennedy of bioniclewhy is gen 2 so kino? Is it because it’s the most frutiger aero?
>>11743078I don't think I'd call Gen 2 "frutiger aero" but it certainly has an aesthetic very specific to the early/mid 2010's.Really wish we got wave 3 based on the concept arts though because holy hell it was looking like it was gonna be kino.
Are there any good 3d printing options? Like for whole sets, not just alternative masks and whatnot
