They aren't allowed to male them look 1:1 because that would be breaking a law about not having toys in movies. Its why buzz and woody dolls always have weird faces or differences in their designs so they dont look exactly like the movie toys.

Just when I thought modern buzz lightyears couldn't look any weirder.Modern Buzz Lightyears you'd find at Disneyland or in the official Disney stores look like weird Chinese bootlegs. The head sculpt in particular is what throws me off. It looks off and barely resembles the actual character.Which is incredibly strange because modern versions of literally every other Toy Story character look so cute and full of life. Especially woody, hes my favorite of the bunch. Did they just not care enough to pour that same amount of attention and energy for Buzz Lightyear? Damn.

Each toy is designed to appeal in its own way while being cheap enough to still make money. That's it. Most of the time it's not even possible to be completely faithful, but even when it is why would they bother? No one making decisions would want a perfect replica for sale. It would be too expensive for the general public to buy en masse, and it would reduce the amount of slop fans would gobble up because once they owned that perfect version most wouldn't really need any others. The eyes are sunk back to leave room for the mechanical eyelids, the faces lack proper sculpting because they're thin flexible masks over articulated jaws that move out of sync with the voices. It's kind of impressive to pack that kind of tech into a $60 toy but in this case everyone knows the source so well that any flaws make them uncanny.
