First official look at the Lord Zedd and Z-Putty MMPR Reignited figures from Playmates. No word on if they're the only Evil Space Aliens for Season 2 or not.

>>

I really hope the coloring of this Putty is accurate to what ends up releasing, because it would be the most accurate Z-Putty we've ever gotten. All prior releases have had gotten the colors wrong.

WOW! Shocking! The out of scale, crappy looking, barely articulated kids toy isn't going to replace the super articulated collector figure?

Are we still even trying to pretend they'll make anything that comes even close to anything like the LC figures?
>>
>>11739720
No, I've had everything in those pics for years and have most of the LC stuff. I just don't post in this general very often because the current state of the franchise depresses me.
>>
>>11739589
Falconzord never had solo fight scenes and felt like a major downgrade. Really hard going from the Dragonzord to the Tigerzord to..the Falconzord, a glorified wing backpack. Red Battlezord maanged to give him a solo zord again but none really matched the badboy appeal of the Dragonzord.
Yes I know it's all different series in the Sentai. I think the Season1-2 transition worked relatively smoothly, it's everything else that started to falter.
>>
>>11739736
Worst was the White Shogunzord, which was just another of the primary five main Zords. The Falconzord may have been a downgrade, but at least it still felt like a special 6th Ranger Zord.
>>
>>11739736
The Falconzord did more in Dimensions in Danger than the entirety of the MMPR series. But you want to talk about downgrades? How about going from the Zeo Zord fleet to the Turbo Zords. The Falconzord was much cooler in the movie where it didn't have the limitations of a physical prop which recycled the same 3 shots. With endless time and budget the Turbo Zords would still just be cars that can't do much against humanoid monsters.
>>
>>11739892
https://youtu.be/RpBZJRlwSb8?si=DOG0ZtqOsxGM5hnW
around the end of this interview Doug Sloan talks about how Saban and other producers were obsessed with the Turbo concept and thought it was gonna make a gazillion dollars cause kidslike cars, when Sloan argued that cars were far less versatile than past zords. That's probably why the made the (ultimately probably wrong) decision to do a Turbo movie and not a Zeo or In Space one, which probably would've done slightly better and at least be better remembered.
At least the Turbo Rescue Zords are among the most versatile zords we've gotten. I don't get why they never did the transforming individual zord concept since the 90's. The red Dragonzord, Turbo Rescuezords, and Astro Megazord/Delta Megazord and a few other individual 90's zords are among the few cases. Otherwise only sixth ranger mecha, but I mean main team zords.
>>
>>11739736
>>11739892
Hey now, the Falconzord swooping down and smacking the shit out of Hydro Hog, overpowering a monster that even the unbeatable Shogun Megazord couldn't beat, was a pretty cool scene. Perhaps too little too late (it's literally the last Mighty Morphin episode), but it's still cool nonetheless.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XF0g8dGU5hs
>>
>>11739736
It never had solo fight scenes because its Sentai counterpart didn't. Tsubasamaru never belonged to any Kakuranger. The problem was that they went from a 6 ranger Sentai adaptation with Dairanger/Season 2 to a 5 Ranger adaptation with Kakuranger/Season 3.
>>
>>11739505
Where are the goddamn monsters?
>>
>>11740135
Yeah, I'm not loving how things are looking so far... Hell, we still haven't even gotten an official look at Squatt and King Sphinx yet, and it's nothing new for PR for its toy makers to suddenly go "Oops, those villains/monsters got cancelled. Didn't we tell you?"
>>
>>11740138
I'm not feeling good about Squatt and King Sphinx at this point. It was already concerning that these season 2 villains were shown at Toy Fair and they weren't, but now the season 2 villains get promo pics released before them as well. I would be really bummed, but could live without King Sphinx if he got cancelled, but Squatt being cancelled after we got Baboo would be devastating.

The second wave of villains should have been Squatt and Baboo. It makes no sense having Goldar on pegs single carded when there is a 6 pack on the shelf below touting him as an exclusive figure. I'm sure Goldar's single carded availability has tanked the sales of that 6 pack, which is another reason Squatt should have been carded in his place. Goldar shouldn't have been sold single carded until later when all those 6 packs were cleared out.
>>
>>11739898
Kind of ironic they were so reticent to shake up the formula early on that they kept the Zyu/Dairanger suits for three seasons, but the moment they decided to go all in on the latest Sentai as a sure thing, things start going downhill. Makes me wonder what would happen if they tried to switch the order of the Turbo Zords around like they did for the Ninja and Shogun Zords.
Although admittedly that would just push the can down the road and make things awkward later.

I think it all depends on the lighting and which gloves they grabbed for any given scene. Also, there's the chance that the crew freshened up the paint at some point during the season.
>>
>>11741559
>>
>>11741559
Yeah, I'd say the clear intent was for them to be red, but given the chaos of filming a low budget show at a breakneck pace, wrong gloves may have been used at any given point, and/or wear and tear could have taken the paint off. I like the red hands because it makes them more visually distinctive than Rita's Putties, and it also matches Zedd's aesthetic. That's the way I remember Z-Putties in my mind, so when I see that Playmates figure it just looks right to me.

>>11739722
I really wanted to enjoy the line more but Hasbro just kinda had too many inconsistent figures that I just gave up. This was in spite of mmpr lc not having many enemies at first, and well by the time they did come out I was just disappointed with the results. Zedd and goldar looked great, you can't mess up a putty but king sphinx and pumpkin rapper weren't enough to keep me around.

I'm hoping the Playmate line gets past the head flip gimmick and offers more standard rangers before I try them since I never lied that flip gimmick. It's a wild thought but idk, maybe let lanard have a shot at mmpr? Or another goofy idea I like is trying the 3 3/4 scale, it could allow for more vehicles and playsets.
>>
>>11739721
Well, they are currently trying to pretend they are making toys for kids, of a 33 year old show that has not been on anywhere for at least 30 years.

No kid knows or cares who the fuck Lord Zedd is, much less wants a toy of him.
>>
>>11740361
We didn't even get a Dragonzord, what hope is there for a White Tigerzord?
>>
>>11742204
They already announced White Tiger will be Walmart exclusive.

Why they wanted the Tiger and not Dragon is a mystery.
>>
>>11742200
Its currently on Netflix, actually. Premiering new upscaled versions of the show, at that.
>>
>>11742217
Because the retailers weren't sure it'd sell last year. The toy line was untested last year but it's a different scenario this year because the toys actually sell.
>>

Yeah, I think he shelf warmed due to being somewhat of a departure from the usual PR/Sentai aesthetic. I love that look too though and he's great figure, especially if picked up at a discount. I've got the invisible version too, I should maybe take some pics later this week. The Power Rangers threads always seem like they're hurting for toy pics more than most (though for sadly understandable reasons).

>>
>>11742688
> Heavily teased as being Billy
No he wasn't. You're confusing him with thr Zeo Gold Ranger. Phantom in Turbo is a complete enigma, with no one but Cassie ever wondering who or what he actually is. Ashley even teases her about possibly crushing on a non-human.
> When they finally brought him back for In Space, he's not a real person but a vague defined "ghost gesalt" of all Rangers past present and future
Again, never mentioned or confirmed within the show. This is Judd Lynn's explanation on what the Phantom Ranger is and it was several years after he quit the show. He was meant to have a much bigger role in Space and was even supposed to carry over into Lost Galaxy but budget restrictions kept him from making more than a few cameos at that point.
>>
Remember Zeltrax from Dino Thunder? They considered making him an old Ranger too, like Billy or possibly Jason.
>>
>>11743554
I do and I'm still fucking mad we never got an LC figure for him.
>>
>>11743554
I never liked that idea. I think they should have made him David, Tommy's brother. I know he had died irl by that point, but Zeltrax was a perma-suit character regardless, so they could have easily used photos and old flashback clips from Zeo. Zeltrax being Tommy's brother would have had a lot more emotional impact than what we got, and they could have given him a nice arc which ended with him becoming heroic and ultimately sacrificing himself to save Tommy. I think it could have been a nice tribute to him, and posthumously given him the bigger role in the show he always wanted.
>>
>>11742688
That last part made me think this guy's post-Cosmic Fury Zayto. Remember, he sacrificed himself to stabilize the Morphin Grid, and the Phantom Ranger could be the end result. Of course, forcing a non-Saban season's lore onto an established Zordon-era character is messed up on so many levels, forget I said that.

So if we see Zedd and Z-Putty/Season 2 stuff in general in stores before we see Squatt and King Sphinx, are we to just assume they've been cancelled, then? >>

>>
>>11739736
It felt like that because its Sentai counterpart was never a 6th Ranger mecha. Adapting Kakuranger was harder than with Dairanger and it showed.
>>
>>11745697
It wouldn't have been very difficult to shoot some additional Falconzord footage so it was more present in battles and did more than the same 3 recycled stock footage shots. Even when the 6 Rangers all called their Zords together, it usually did nothing while the Megazord fought the monster until they formed the Ninja Mega Falconzord to finish it.
>>
>>11745720
Like what they did with the Zyu2 footage?
Tsubasamaru would only show up sometimes after Kakure Daishogun was formed in Kakuranger. The closest thing to a 6th Ranger there was Ninjor's counterpart.
>>
>>11745720
>It wouldn't have been very difficult to shoot some additional Falconzord footage so it was more present in battles
I don't know if Saban had anything other than the individual Shogun Zord suits. They were the only Kakuranger mechs to get MMPR-original footage (other than the Ultrazords, for obvious reasons).
>>
>>11745725
>>11745720
Zyu2 was insanely expensive to the point they never did it again and just filmed their own suit fights instead

It's also why they didn't make original zords for season two like they wanted.

The White Ranger was a hugely popular and successful major character in season 2 and the movie. While the Green Ranger was in a handfull of episodes and very secondary in the first season, he even showed up late. They are not really comparable.

>>
>>11746273
>Their own Ultrazord footage looked bad and they knew it
The special effects themselves weren't bad (they aren't great, but they're passable); what really killed the Ultrazords were the fact that they obviously used the U.S. toys that don't match the suits at all (the Pink Shogunzord, the 'S' on the Shogun Megazord, the pink Crane Ninjazord, the MMPR lightning bolt everywhere). If they'd just used the Sentai toys instead, the sequences would've been okay. Not amazing by any means, but not too bad.
>>
>>11746473
Holy shit, that looks awesome dude. Hefty price tag, but I get it. I also desperately wish they'd finished the LSR team before the LC died, along with Time Force. I'll forever be pissed we never got a Quantum Ranger, but never making one is the biggest indicator that Hasbro just doesn't understand the property or what people want from it.
>>
>>11746527
They obviously had no access to the Japanese toys if the Dinozord to Thunderzord original transformation footage is any indication. Staff most likely had to buy the toys at their closest Target and did their best.

The bigger issue is the 90s onward is when fragmentation accelerated. Back in the 80s you had a very captive market, whatever was on those 3 to 5 channels was all you got to watch. Fast forward to the 90s and you have ecosystems now where that one kid grew up on Nickelodeon, while he other was Fox kids, another ABC family, another still Cartoon Network. That stretches out your markets. Most kids that were born in the 70s grew up with Transfomers, He-man, GIJoe, and Thundercats because those shows won out and had the syndication power. Fast forward to kids born in the 80s and you get this mess of kids that grew up with 25 times the amount of shows thanks to cable tv. No captive audience means no ensured sales or profit which is why they keep playing to the shows and movies that had the widest net of that time.

The bigger difference is that video games became more popular in the late 80s. By 1990 most kids by age 12 or so would rather have a NES game for Christmas/Birthday than the cool expensive playset or big Transformer. Home console games caused kids to age out of buying toys a little faster than before.

And shit like this right here is why i fucking despise video games. They were fine like maybe 20 years ago when they were just a piece of the overall entertainment landscape pie and stayed in their own lane but for some reason or another they massively grew in popularity within the early 2010s and ecllipsed all the other mediums of entertainment such as shows and movies and toys and are suffocating them into irrelevancy because brain dead retard zoomers only want to play vidya sloppa and nothing else. I just dont fucking get it or understand why that even happened at all. The entite gaming industry is a cultural fucking tumor.

I dont understand the massivelt hype boomers and gen-X has for ghostbusters. The first movie is good and the real ghostbusters cartoon is peak but the brand worship ghostbusters get is obscene to me its not fucking star wars or EVA you guys cmon.

Ghostbusters makes some sense due to being a merch monster back in the 80s. It was more of a toy commercial cartoon than tie-in after a while.

I don't understand the nonstop love for Back to the Future. It was just an okay movie, followed by two really bad sequels. But BTTF shit is everywhere and always front and center of all the 80s nostalgia shit.

Oh my god dude i can totally agree man. I never got the hype around back to the future either yet gen-X hypes it up to hell and back. Did you ever see the delorian with the ghostbusters logo that the writer if ready player one owns IRL? The hype around those mid ass movies is do undeserved. Biff was the best character though.

You should've seen the Hasbro Pulse streams they were doing years ago. It was very obvious they were putting new employees on this line and most of them only knew what they knew from quickly skimming the wiki or watching a handful of episodes days before they recorded the videos. A huge contrast to the Marvel or GI Joe presenters that usually followed.

>>
>>11752481
I was told by someone on this board in many threads that Playmates was going to release all the monsters, and more than Hasbro ever did. Why did they lie to us?
>>
>>11752481
Well this is crushing, but I can't say the writing wasn't on the wall after not being shown at this year's Toy Fair. I would say there is still some hope though. They specifically said not in 2026. Zedd and the Z-Putty will release next to align with season 2's rollout, and I guess Squatt and King Sphinx couldn't be squeezed in before then. To be fair only Target has even gotten the Goldar/Baboo wave, and even then they've been pretty sparse in my neck of the woods (my Targets keep restocking with Rita/Putty cases after they sold their initial Goldar/Baboos).

I imagine Goldar and Baboo will get a wider release in the coming months when the other wave 2 products hit shelves, and then Zedd/Z-Putty will release end of summer/early fall with the season 2 stuff. We could potentially get Squatt as an early 2027 figure like they did with Baboo this year. Playmates has to know Squatt is gonna be in high demand after releasing Baboo. Also keep in mind that Playmates loses TMNT in 2027, so it stands to reason they'll give Power Rangers more attention going forward.

>>11752499
As much as I want to blame Playmates, this could be another instance of retailers being retards like the Dragonzord fiasco. I imagine they are determining how many villains are being made at a time, and likely which characters they want.
>>
>>11752481
glad I never got too invested in this line, we all know they do this, at least the robots and roleplay are good cheap toys, I still haven't seen putties at retail, let alone baboo and goldar, just like you can never find foot soldiers from their TMNT lines, maybe bst axn will get a shot and make a more diverse half assed toyline like they did with TMNT
>>
>>11746544
>but never making one is the biggest indicator that Hasbro just doesn't understand the property or what people want from it.
>>11751029
It's the opposite, they KNEW those characters would be in demand, which is why they frontload with less desirable characters with the idea that if people are dedicated they will stick around. If you do all the popular characters first, people don't stick around because they've got what they wanted.
It's the mindset Hasbro uses for a lot of their lines, and unfortunately it does work for Star Wars, Transformers, and Marvel. Power Rangers fans just generally lack future planning so they let less popular characters rot on pegs because they never thought that they'd need them to complete a Time Force or Wild Force collection in a year or two. So when those go unpurchased, Hasbro figures there's no interest for the rest of the team.
>>
>>11752504
Playmates is only responding to sales obviously. Sales for these lines are horrible so they're canceling things. Doesn't help that the figures are bad too, but sales are still really bad across all retailers.
>>
>>11752712
>Sales for these lines are horrible
>>11745145
>3k of a 6-pack released in September sold in the last month
You don't know what you're talking about. The line is selling well, which is why it's continuing and expanding. Playmates themselves have reported that Power Rangers helped to offset losses they had in 2025 from other brands.

Nowhere did Playmates say the figures were cancelled, they just aren't planned for 2026. They implicitly state that it doesn't mean the figures won't ever release. It's just the timing of things which doesn't allow for them to release this year. The Goldar and Baboo wave hasn't even hit Amazon and Walmart yet, and Zedd and Z-Putty need to release with the season 2 debut this summer/fall. If anyone is to blame it's retailers for limiting villains to only 2 per wave, which backed things up. Maybe they felt burned by the Lightning Collection monsters which rotted on shelves forever, and didn't have faith in a larger assortment selling.

The ironic thing is, if they had to split up the duo, I would think most people would prefer Squatt to Baboo? Baboo was kinda boring. Squatt was the silly one with the goofy voice and he did more stuff solo in the show than Baboo did. But in all seriousness though, if they were just going to release Rita, Goldar, Putty, and one other figure, why not King Sphinx? He's cooler than Baboo, he's one of MMPR's most iconic monsters, and he was Goldar's tag team partner. Why avoid him while also releasing only one half of a comedy duo?
>>
>>11752947
Yeah, King Sphinx would have been a much better choice in a wave with Goldar. Splitting up Squatt and Baboo is nonsensical. If they’re available at the same time nobody is buying one and not the other. But now you'll have people potentially passing on Baboo because they can't also have Squatt, or passing on Squatt if he is eventually released because they didn't buy Baboo. It's an unnecessary mess.

Yeah, I'm totally sure Playmates is gonna go back in the middle of the Season 3 or Zeo toy lines and release the two other Season 1 villains they forgot about that don't even appear in those seasons.
>>
>>11753255
No, actually, on second thought, that's exactly what going to happen. We'll finally get Squatt and King Sphinx, but as the Season 3 or Zeo villains, preventing us from getting figures of relevant characters like Rito & Master Vile or King Mondo & Gasket.
>>
>>11753255
Early 2027 would still be the season 2 line, and Squatt is in both season 2 and 3. King Sphinx is the one who doesn't fit, but they are still looking for ways to release Dragonzord, so I wouldn't count him out either.
>>
I still just can't wrap my head around Goldar being in the second wave, which is currently only being sold at Target, while Target is selling a 6-pack at the same time with an "exclusive" Goldar figure. Target can't have been the ones to demand Goldar in wave 2, as it only hurts the sales of their 6-pack. So it comes down to some moron from Playmates or Hasbro making that boneheaded decision. It's difficult to know who exactly is responsible since both companies are dumb as fuck, but whoever made that call deserves to be fired immediately.
>>
>>11752481
I really really wish i could find out who is responsible at playmates for constantly canceling figures that they always show off at toy fairs and comic cons so i can beat the shit out of them and give them a massive wedgie. Theyve done this to TMNT for as long as ive collected since 2012 and the biggest backlash ive ever seen playmates toys get for this behavior is when they cancelled most of the Voltron cast figures and the 2017 legendary defender fandom gave them hell.

It figures. Whatever. The Evil Space Aliens were the only reason I was even interested in this line. I already have 7,000 versions of the MMPR and the Dino Megazord. If all these toy companies are going to insist on shoving MMPR down our throats, they really need to start focusing on other areas of the show.
>>
>>11754605
Yeah, I was really hopeful that Playmates would explore other neglected aspects of MMPR, but their line has basically just been the same stuff we got from Bandai. I guess kudos for finally giving us a 5 inch Rita, but there's so much more untapped potential.

I really thought we would get a Radbug from them given their penchant for vehicles. I thought playsets were a given, not just the Command Center, but Rita/Zedd's Palace, or maybe even incorporating the Juice Bar into a Command Center playset and having a feature to "teleport" the Rangers back and forth. I thought we could get Bulk and Skull in multiple variations (punk, Incredible Bulkster & Super Skull, cops) or even civilian Rangers, I mean this is a company who made the Channel 6 News crew from TMNT. I thought we would get a more robust assortment of villains with numerous monsters of the day given how rich their villain selection has always been for TMNT (Bandai going big on villains in the Dino Charge line was a direct response to Playmates' success with their 2012 TMNT line). I thought we would get 5" Megazord figures and finally fill the MMPR void in that regard since Bandai didn't start making them until Zeo. I thought we could actually get a Cyclopsis, even if it were just a 5 inch version.

Reignition has just been a massive disappointment. I just wonder how much of that is Playmates, and how much is Hasbro dictating what they make/shooting down ideas.
>>
I just hope they can get to '95 MMPR Movie/Season 3 for the Ninja Megazord and the Shogun Megazord.
>>
>>11755710
villain assortment will probably be:
'95 MMPR Movie:
>Tengu Warrior (Tengas are the exact same suits)
>Ivan Ooze
Season 3
>Rito Revolto
>Master Vile
For the Rangers, things can get tricky: Either the Movie suits or Ninjetti uniforms for Movie. For Season 3...Glitter or Alien Rangers + Ninjor. I hope it's the latter for both.

Do a big foot-tall talking robot toy of Alpha 5. His visor and his lightning bolt light up when you press a button (maybe the lightning bolt itself). And he talks.
>Aye-yi-yi-yi-yi!
>Oh no, the city is under attack!
>Right away, Zordon!
>Teleporting now!
>Contacting the Rangers!
>Teleporting the Rangers to the Command Center!
>Activating Dino Zord power!
>>
>>11756442
It's actually kind of crazy that in spite of the MMPR insanity during the initial run that no company ever thought to make an electronic Alpha 5 toy. Bandai had the standard toy license, but there were plenty of other companies making other types of toys. I know there were numerous electronic toys made by other companies such as Tiger.
>>

>I thought we would get a more robust assortment of villains with numerous monsters of the day given how rich their villain selection has always been for TMNT (Bandai going big on villains in the Dino Charge line was a direct response to Playmates' success with their 2012 TMNT line).
Off the top of my head, a MMPR Season 1/Dino Charge-worthy line of Evil Space Aliens Playmates could've given us (intentionally picking monsters that never got figures before, or at least never in the 5.5" scale):
>Rita Repulsa
>Goldar
>Finster
>Squatt
>Baboo
>Giant Scorpina
>King Sphinx
>Chunky Chicken
>Terror Toad
>Shellshock
>Frankenstein
>Super Putty
>Mutaytus
>Cyclopsis
>Pumpkin Rapper
>Rhinoblaster
Bones, Gnarly Gnome, and Oysterizer almost made the cut but, well... didn't.
>>
>>11755119
>>11756442
You guys are killing me here. I know the market is way different than it used to be, but it's still baffling that Playmates, who made figures for every little aspect of TMNT, hasn't done anything close to this.
Really starting to seem like no company's ever going to tap into the franchise's full potential, even just the first season, let alone the entirety of MMPR and beyond.

This still pisses me off. As much as Hasbro mined Boom for material, there's so much they could have done that was equal or even better than what they actually went with. And you can't even make the case for them being easier to reuse, since many of them were original molds. And they still had the nerve to do shit like the Street Fighter crossovers.

Even worse, 3rd parties won't touch them either since it's more profitable to put out a hypothetical '95 movie Green Ranger or redesign the Dino Megazord than anything from tertiary media.

Being a Power Rangers fan beyond the first three seasons really is suffering.

They already made too much Boomshit for my taste, so I'm glad they didn't. I don't want Bulk and Skull as Power Rangers, I just want Bulk and Skull as normal teens/cops/detectives/etc. I'd take Incredible Bulkster and Super Skull because they were home made costumes.

I didn't mind the Ryu and Chun-Li Rangers, since they 'actually exist' and are in multiple projects. The Ken and Cammy Rangers pissed me off though, because they're not even in anything, and I heard they weren't even designed by the same person who did the first two, so they look like shit.
