To what extent are differences in boy's and girl's toy preferences driven by biological factors versus socialization?

the color pink
the toy's general design/appearance
the toy's advertised purpose

The best info we have on it shows that most of the variance in preferences for toys and activities is genetic. boy and girls in isolation will split into groups and behave in very different ways. for boys, the affinity for construction and simulated combat are deeply engrained and this continues on through life. It's not some global conspiracy that boys all over the world love Halo and COD while girls play candy puzzle adventure and makeup. I'm glad we have the data that disproves blank-slate equalism but it's only needed people people too smart for their own good came up with dumb ideas.

Quite socialised, I think. If you just let them play with eachother’s stuff they’re happy, and the girl/boy colours are such a recent change that biologically speaking kids probably aren’t preprogrammed to love a colour and it’s more of an artificial creation meant to condition them to associate “boy and girl colours” with getting their parents to buy them certain toys.

In real life I’ve found model train sets, legos, sand and water pistols are the most universally beloved. Otherwise it all depends on group dynamics, usually the alpha child with richer parents who buy them more in a friend group sets the toy trends, or they’ll just play with whatever.

>driven by biological factors versus socialization
what is this tranny shit, girls do not care about war toys or superhero shit they prefer baking and child care

I disagree, to a certain extent. I think you're right about colors, but the ways that boys and girls play, as evidenced by a lego study, is very different. Girls like to do more roleplay, while boys are more technical/action oriented. So I do think they will naturally gravitate towards whatever suits their tastes, and toy companies will cater to those tastes.

Anyone who says socialization is 100% making a bad faith argument or coming from a place of ignorance.
There's actually quite a few data studies done on this by toy companies.
For instance Mattel did a data study to see if girls would like action figures the way men do since they were considering a Barbie action figure line at the time.
They found girls would consistently turn mascaline archatypes such as Batman for instance into women, basically if playing with Batman or any other similar figure they would have him doing tea time and dates. Women would try and make these figures become what they wanted.
Whereas men will naturally try and embody the characters and learn anything and everything they can about them.
There's a lot of interesting stuff to infer from a lot of these studies.

just remembered I Am Elemental, which i remembered as a push to for "action figures for the female audience". I'm sad that didnt inspire into mainstream, but good on any ladies who share the hobby

I'd say the pink/blue aspect is the only thing that's mostly or fully socialised, it used to be the other way around.
Researchers tested baby monkeys with truck and plush toys, and the boy monkeys were more likely to play with the trucks while the girl monkeys were more likely to play with the plush toys (but were more variable). I think this is the final nail in the coffin of the socialisation theory. Psychologists also did similar studies for human babies who haven't had time to be socialised yet, with similar results.

It's mostly biological, hence other animals selectively using stereotypical objects targeted by sex, despite those objects being made for humans.
So male monkeys play with trucks most, despite not understanding what they are, while female monkeys wanting to play with dolls most. OBviously, there's going to be some lingering curiosity with the object, because it's unfamiliar, but there's a marked difference still.

i thought it was LEGO who did this or was part of the study?

Your trad mom wants you to finish cleaning up your basement, then wash your hands and come up for dinner.

Studies and data tells us it's mostly biological and when external stimuli and preasure are renoved biys and and girls still gravitate to their expected choices respectively.

However just because this is what the numbwrs say doesn't mean it should be socially enforced either. Girls can stillvlike cars and GI Joes and boys can still want a Barbie. Just let kids like what they like, it's the one time in their life they should be allowed to do so.

The funny thing is Lego is balls and uterus deep into progressiveness and equality and even they know there are differences between how girls and boys play hence Friends and Ninjago

You should see toys from ages past where boys had action figures, robots, cars, and space stuff while girls had a kitchen playset.

I was always into my brother's TMNT toys but I was told by multiple people that they were for boys. Biology may play a part at the start but I think it has way more to do with socialization.

You say like like biology and testosterone are the only effects. If everyone is going to say Barbies are for girls is that going to make you want to play with them?
