Thats definitely how I roll too. First and foremost there is only one Alley Viper in my personal Joeverse. There is also one episode of the show that sort of kind of backs that up in his case. Desert Scorpion was definitely going to be another case of this for me as well before Target practically forced these on me at the price I paid. All I know is that the second you start troop building any character it automatically becomes less special. They become cannon fodder by default.

I tend to have the impression that Cobra's science division largely has freedom to pursue whatever mad scheme Mindbender, Dr Venom, the new dinosaur guy or whoever else wants to try this week, and Cobra will work with whatever produces results, unless someone outranking them has a specific idea they want done. So big bugs and clone dinosaurs are both things that can get worked on at different times.

Most GI Joes has traditionally come with quasi-futuristic shit, because it's based on technology that's already in the pipeline or was already prototyped by the military. If it wasn't a straight up copy of a real gun/vehicle.
Whereas Classified GI Joe line was mostly just made up shit like Apex Legends or Titanfall.
Again, there's a reason why they dropped the early style from the line and switched over to just releasing shit for nostalgiafags.

So people like Lenny got into GI Joe to revamp the line and turn it into something new, but their work was rejected by the majority of the fans/kids, so their talent went to waste just slightly modifying the original designs, instead of doing what GI Joe was doing in the 00s and 10s (making new shit and doing a great job at revamping GI Joe).

Again, back in the 80s, 90s, 00s, and early 10s, GI Joe was constantly being revamped and with brand new designs, and was popular for the majority of the time. Even VvV was popular, despite the change to Sigma 6. Sigma 6 was done to capitalize on anime being popular at the time and while GI Joe was still popular, because Hasbro viewed S6 as a shift to greater popular. IT was akin to when Hasbro shifted to gI Joe EXtreme in the 90s, since GI Joe had been experiencing renewed interest in the GI Joe brand in the 90s but wanted to capitalize on superheroes.
So the fact that they even experimented requires talent and they won't do that today, because they're not going to put money into a waning brand. Shit, they dont even put money into large vehicles anymore, instead requiring interest free loans from their customers to make them.

A toy company normally gets loans to make products. They pay interest on these loans. Hasbro has a line of credit to do exactly this, hence constantly making products without you ever even knowing they're going to produce the product and releasing it after 1-6 months of heavy handed marketing.

Hasbro wouldn't be producing shit if they didn't use their credit to produce the goods, same as when they get your interest free loan to produce any of their Haslabs.

Normal GI Joe toy that's sold at Walmart and Target that was produced on credit: 2+2=4

The despoiler is a poor choice for a wide release vehicle. I'll tell you exactly what's gonna happen, it's going to sit and get heavily discounted by retailers which is going to further devalue the line and make retailers hesitant on purchasing vehicles in the future. Long term it's a bad decision for the line, the despoiler is more appropriate for something like an SDCC exclusive.

You want to use those slots for the really cool shit that people wouldn't normally buy multiples of if it was wide release, but just might because it's a convention exclusive.

You also don't want to waste SDCC slots for bullshit based off of one off sunbow episode for a $125 cold slither box set that's been sitting on pulse for almost a year now.

The reason Ross increased the price on GI Joes is either because the MSRP went up or they're no longer getting their stock at rock bottom price when Walmart/Target/Gamestop already clearanced off their products and needed to dump their stock.
You can look at the price sticker to see the price that the toy was being sold at. See pic? Shipwreck's wave MSRP wasn't 12.99, but it is the clearanced price Walmart had it at when they shipped the pallets off to Ross, and that's what Ross puts on their stickers.

Almost everything Ross carries is overstock and remainders, so their prices are almost always half off MSRP.
So the only reasons it's not half off MSRP is if the line sold so poorly that they got a deep discount from the distributors (walmart/target/gamestop/amazon/etc) because they couldn't sell it at their own stores. The higher the discount, the more poorly the toyline sold.

Also if they got their stock directly from the manufacturer, the price will either be MSRP or slightly below MSRP.

Armored Commander is another of the best in this line. Hes so awesome. If you have any interest in this one I would grab it sooner than later. I had a very difficult time finding this one and he is drying up online. All my usual brick and mortar go-tos are all sold out which is always a good barometer for the future of the figure.

When you see a new Classified figure on clearance at Walmart 99% of the time the reason is because someone returned it to that store which does not carry the item. There is no spot in the planogram for it so it goes straight to clearance. This phenomenon has been observed many times lately due to how many Walmarts stopped stocking Classified.

This doesn't really make sense, unless some Walmart suddenly burned down.
Stores account for stock ~3 months ahead of time, which is how products' release schedules work too. So all total stock that is ordered is already accounted for and has a space for it on store shelves, hence empty pegs and clearances to make space for new stock.
When there's surplus (a line that sells well will always have this), it doesn't go to stores, it stays in the distribution warehouses and goes out when a store needs more stock.

It's embarassing how there's people who don't understand how businesses actually have plans.

I just got Frag Viper and he is sick. I love the headsculpt underneath the helmet too. I’m definitely not troop building him, he has too much potential as an individual imo. I just can’t with the grenade lobbing device despite the fact that the feeding tube is so cool. Gotta find another use for it. Good thing his machine pistols are awesome.

Stores overestimated, not Hasbro, and stores were only ordering what they thought consumer demand would be.

Not true. Producers hit retailers with MOQs (minimum order quantities) they must buy to get a line, and that number is always the number it takes for it to be profitable. Even exclusives aren't viable until both agree to a MOQ.
