The 90s artwork is not as good as the vintage artwork. No wonder why they went back to the older designs.
I used to have the AT-AT on the right. An awesome toy
>>11766302I disagree.
>>11766368Nobody asked you.
>>11766302The scale of both of these look like shit. Boomers really played with this stuff?
>>11766479>scaleScale didn't matter because autism wasn't so prevalent, and scale modelling kept the small amount of them contained.>Boomers really played with this stuff? No. Boomers had outgrown toys by the time Star Wars was a thing and were too busy ruining society for all future generations. Now a boomer is going to force you to die in a desert hellhole. I'm not sure if the fact that you are a scale autist will be grounds for a medical discharge. Remember to hide your Labubus and Mr Beastlabs Beasticles from your drill sergeant.
>>11766302While I agree I still have a soft spot for the POTF2 box art. That airbrushed vader head, the splash of green, it all speaks to me.
>>11766368I'm with you.The 90's power of the force box art is superior
>>11766479>BoomersGen X, motherfucker.
>>11766597Gen X is just cynical boomers
>>11766600Whatever.
>>11766302>No wonder why they went back to the older designs. They went back to vintage packaging because they tried to sucker nostalgiafags into buying the new shit
>>11766600Gen X are the gen who should also get shit with the boomers but magically get forgetten about all the time.
>>11766634>Gen X are the gen who should also get shit with the boomers but magically get forgetten about all the time. Are you for real? The whole toy industry right now is built around the brands of Gen-X kids. Even the brands that came before Gen-X are being shaped today by the Gen-X stuff, which is why no one's asking for a Classified GI Joe figure with flocked hair. kung-fu grip, and pants you can take off.
>>11766639>The whole toy industry right now is built around the brands of Gen-X kidsOh cool, I guess that gives them the pass for all the other shit they are also the fault of with boomers.
>>11766639I was about to say, but halfway in I stopped caring. Let him find out for himself or die in ignorance.
>>11766597Interesting toy
>>11766603This too
>>11766935
>>11766937
>>11766940
>>11766940>>11766942>Starriors KOs with Sectaurs headsWeird-looking
>>11766977You are right. That are Starrior bodies.
>>11767066
>>11767069
>>11766597>cross-scale vehicle/mountsI love shit like this
I've never heard of Nebular Warlords before, but it's awesome.
>>11766302at least the 90s shit is still cheap
>>11767540For the most part. Some of the original early-90s Batman movie and cartoon-derived stuff, Jurassic Park dinosaurs (especially the big ones), and POTF2 vehicles have gotten pricey.
>>11767069>>11767072I'd love modern versions of these.
>>11768192I'm surprised they havent shown up in Synergenex in one form or another. Same with Battle Beasts/Beastformers.
>>11768192Takara-Tomy owns the line, but don't seem interested at all in doing anything with it. It's a shame. The line was great, and the comic book mini-series had awesome story-telling.
>>11766302>No wonder why they went back to the older designsJust think, in another ten years they’ll revive the potf2 box art designs to cater to that nostalgia. Both pieces of artwork are good imo, it’s just the zeitgeist is for 80s nostalgia, so that’s what they churn out.
>>11771763In ten years the real POTF2 figures will still be worth around their original retail price. oh well. It's 100% the fault of collectors for buying hoarding the shit out of them thinking they'll be worth what the originals tuff is worth one day, compelling Hasbro to make as much as it can by producing more.
>>11771871And while that was terrible for speculative buyers and their resale value, it is great for actual fans of the product line. Wish it would happen more often.
>>11771882True. At the least the POTF2 vehicles ended up being worth something, especially the ones that were OT reissues.
>>11766597>Im not elderly old I’m just bald & fat old!
>>11766302The Kenner Star Wars team really dropped the ball, when other teams like the Aliens guys had art like this.Maybe they were ordered to use primarily photo based packaging?
>>11771763>Just think, in another ten years they’ll revive the potf2 box artThey are already doing it with Black Series figures.
>>11771364Arnt there some battlebeast homages?
>>11773352
>>11773352>>11773354Among indie toylines maybe. I dont think synergenex has acknowledged battle beasts yet. Starriors hasnt even gotten a tip of the hat.
>>11771871>>11771882>>11771899> In ten years the real POTF2 figures will still be worth around their original retail price. oh well. It's 100% the fault of collectors for buying hoarding the shit out of them thinking they'll be worth what the originals tuff is worth one day, compelling Hasbro to make as much as it can by producing more.Yeah potf2 was so overproduced I still see plenty of factory-sealed crates of them listed on eBay; every store that even remotely has anything to do with toys has at least a few moc hanging around. No complaints, I’m not a speculator on toys as an asset. Potf2 was one of the defining toy lines of my childhood, so it’s all enjoyment for me and sharing them with the kids, since potf2 was a far more logically arranged (and expansive) toy line than what hasbro releases for sw these days.>>11772285I still like potf2 box art better. Simpler, showcases the product and its cool features without going too far. Kenner Aliens had cool art but sometimes exaggerated the toys a bit imo. Plus, there were other Star Wars toy lines (micro machines/action fleet) that had dynamic artwork.>>11772409lol well there you go. Is nostalgia accelerating or simply spreading out to include more eras now?
>>11772285Seriously.
>>11773474>Is nostalgia accelerating or simply spreading out to include more eras now?The latter. All the money men blew their fortunes on bad decisions, so now they have to rely on everyone's nostalgia to make it by. Gen X and millenials are doing most of the heavy lifting at this point though. Zoomer's dont have the purchasing power their elders did. That's why half of five below is blind box crap based off CN and nick properties
>>11766629I hate the fake card wear
>>11773548This. They should have made them look exactly like the OG ones.
>>11773546> All the money men blew their fortunes on bad decisionsDidn’t hasbro just beat their earnings pretty handily last quarter? The money men seem to be doing okay, not sure that’s good for us, of course.
>>11773548I hate that big "retro" emblem covering the character photo. That's fucking annoying.
>>11772082Clever stuff.
>>11773546They rely more on nostalgia because toys--that is, action figures--as an industry don't really matter. They haven't mattered since the 90s or early 00s.
>>11773809>simulated edge-wear.>massive annoying retro emblem covering card photo.>really thin cardback.>figure (including vintage reissues) in blister tray inside of the card.If the goal is to make it clear that it's not 45-year-old vintage, then pick ONE, Hasbro. We're not fucking stupid, and know it's not from 1978. There's no need to fuck up vintage-style packing on multiple levels like this.
>>11773474>Yeah potf2 was so overproduced I still see plenty of factory-sealed crates of them listed on eBay; every store that even remotely has anything to do with toys has at least a few moc hanging around. And it still blows my mind when I see PotF2 and Episode 1 stuff at a huge mark up at some shops and auctions when I see them at below original retail price at so many other shops.
>>11774573> And it still blows my mind when I see PotF2 and Episode 1 stuff at a huge mark up at some shops and auctions when I see them at below original retail price at so many other shops. Some shops really don’t price their inventory well and need reality checks. There are no rare potf2 toys (except production errors) because there were so many of them made. I would not pay much over the original msrp for a first wave Vader figure, for example, if at all. The vehicles are perhaps the only real exception, I can see those prices as somewhat justified. The episode 1 stuff really makes me laugh since I remember the giant clearance bins full of sio bibbles, battle droids, and jar jars in 2000-2001. lol no I’m not paying twice the price for chancellor valorum, thanks.
>>11766302The one on the right is kino , the one on the left looks like the wetdream of the 80s nu male boomer nostalgic woke ceo that everyone despise
>>11774783>The vehicles are perhaps the only real exceptionEpecially the ones that are basically vintage reissues with more paint apps.
>>11766302Gotta say also I loved the potf2 box art redeco they did for shadows of the empire. SotE is as much Star Wars to me as the unmolested original trilogy.>>11775402Yes, those, of course, but I also mean ones like the electronic at-at, which probably wasn’t overproduced like the figures themselves. Or like the POTJ b-wing, which only retailed for less than $40 as an exclusive but is sooo much better than the og 1984 Kenner release it’s based upon—crazy prices probably justified there.
>>11774833>when your jewish wife is trying to use your toy reviews to launch her porn career
>>11766634>magically get forgetten about all the time. That's because there are like, a couple of dozen of us. Birth control and abortion were legalized just as our generation was getting started so there weren't that many of us born in the first place. We're also the first generation who had both parents working, and our parents grew up during the Great Depression and WWII, so they didn't think anything about letting us run around like feral animals.
>>11766639Ironically, retro 12" GI Joes were all over the place in the 1990's as well as other brands. I remember a kurfuffle when some parents spotted a WWII Whermacht soldier in full uniform at a Toys R Us and went full retard.
>>11777548Those eyes. He's seen death.
>>11777548During the Eye Rak War the grandmothers for peace were putting stickers all over the GI Joe dolls at Walmart telling people not to buy them lmao
>>11774783>There are no rare potf2 toys (except production errors)Some of the freeze frame variants go for a decent buck, but even then Weequay is the only one that crosses the $100 mark.
