Do you have a toy-buying problem? Pic related is just my "to open" pile from the last few weeks, not my total haul. How do you stop buying or at least be more discerning?
I have a whole close that looks like this. I don't know why I do this. I feel like the joy of opening a new toy is fleeing and I want to conserve as much of it as possible. So much so that I end up not opening anything. What is that called?
>>11767724>weeb slopwhy it's always weaboo tard...I have never seen a "overspending on toy hauls" photos with actual good taste. It's always just "boxes with anime girls".
>>11767728>neca and mythic legionsGo check your sight granny
>>11767726There are four or five items there that fit that description, even including the Little Armory military hardware. It's mostly Warhammer 40k shit at the back and bottom.
>>11767734meant for >>11767728
>>11767724I've got a small stack of legos which were gifts I haven't gotten around to building yet. Three or four sets deep maybe. I don't get the urge to build as often these days so I save them for when I need a project.
>>11767726YEs, the dopamine hit doesn't last long. It's so fleeting that I also soemtimes never open them. Fortunately you can then stick them on ebay and get more than your money back. I regard it as renting them.
It's interesting, I don't really get too much joy out of actually opening them as I'm usually more scared of their being something wrong with it, that the actual unboxing phase is kind of stressful. Most of my excitement is the process of receiving it, but then I actually love just having them, I am always reposing/fiddling with my figure. I don't have a large collection though, so that's probably a big factor as to why.I currently only have one unopened figure and that's because I can't bring myself to do it due to the potential value. It's Power Princess, but I am in Europe and over here it never got reissued, I imported my one from you guys, so in my market it's probably going to go for daft amounts. Even though I got it for myself, it feels daft to keep it when it's just a Marvel Legends that somebody might buy for like £100.
>>11767724maybe about 16 years ago i REALLY got into buying action figures, i was buying shit i didnt even want cause it was vaguely related, like this fuckin iron man 2 bobble head. I dont even like bobble heads, i only bought it cause i was toy hunting and it said exclusive on it.Thats when i knew i had a problem, and started to only buy shit i really wanted.Dont get me wrong though about buying shit i only want, i still end up with large piles of figures, because there is no better time to be a collector right now, we have some awesome shit releasing.I keep it around as a reminder to not buy stupid shit anymore.
>>11767868That's a cool memento for your story.
>>11767724King diamond? The guy from gorgoroth or behemoth?
>>11767724A bit. I have a list of figures I want to look for deals on and usually when amazing deals come up they all seem to be at once so I end up with a shit ton of plastic to find places for. I always open them and transplant the boxes to my attic though.
>>11767724Depends on your budget, if you can afford it who cares? Enjoy it while it lasts.
>>11767724Yeah I fucked my neck and back up so it's hard to open toys and actually do hobby things but since I'm in bed sick a lot one I cant really give up shopping online and hobby sites like this so I keep buying shit that stays in boxes. I dont buy nearly as much as you though because I have rules. >No single item much over 10000yen for imports >Only make one order every 2 weeks or more>If it's from a series it has to be something or a character that I love the most. Nothing from anything I haven't seen.>I spend a lot of time weeding out stuff on online wishlists before I buy it to figure out what my most favourite characters are so I dont have to go through it when I get it>1 really good figure from something I love the most is better than a lot of shit from something else I like less>Avoid preorders on sites that disallow cancellations Also less internet
Yes but comic books.
>>11767724You're afraid of having to pay scalper prices so you just buy everything. The way to end this is to take a look around at your displays and decide you actually hate all of this, the whole thing, and start listing them on eBay.
>>11767724What the fuck do you do for work and are they hiring?
>>11767738I'd rather return them to the store even if it's for store credit. It's not always dopamine, I buy more than I should sometimes to save money (usually postage). It's also not always as easy to sell stuff, not unless you want to sell for a loss, which I refuse to do.
>>11767724I begged my Grandma to buy me so many model bait magazines I have an army of planes, taxis and police cars
>>11767724It’s a bit easier to stop buying if you’re doing stuff with what you have, like taking photos, making displays or getting into customs. It’s very satisfying to put together photos, even if they’re mostly just for yourself or the Thread About Toys. I did think about making an IG myself some time ago for photos but eh…Instagram.
>>11767728>why it's always weaboo tard...Because people who buy Americanslop are too busy bitching that the price of their toys increased by $5, than buying toys instead.
>>11768234lelbased toy enjoyer
Are you even a /toy/ enjoyer if you don't have a box fort of model kits you definitely will get around to building someday very soon?
>>11768290That's just being a person who builds model kits.
Here's a question. How many pictures does one keep of their toys? I have hundreds at this point. If I repeat post them here or on other platforms people complain. But if I delete them then I have to constantly remember the ones I deleted to avoid accidently taking a picture, fixing it up in terms of color and white balance, only to find it's way to close a picture I posted months ago.
>>11768365I keep old pictures of everything, externals are cheap. But I am definitely not talking toy photography, just general photos. However, I have sold some toys and probably took 20 or so pictures to post to sell and even when I sold or no longer own the toy, I haven't gone back and deleted those.I have fully empty 4TB drives that are even cheaper today than when I purchased these.
>>11768389I understand keeping the pics but what about posting them? Our poster count is so small now if I post a repeat once I immediately get called out. Should I just start making dioramas for cheap or is the same 20 figures I post also not enough even though money is too tight to buy a new figure every month?
>>11768365I save the ones I really like into a folder and either delet or forget to organise the rest. I might occasionally repost a few but mostly I just like to look at them when I’m not admiring my collection like a greedy dragon.
>>11768476>>11768633I don't think anyone is going to make money from here. Hate all you want but something like custom heads, dios, bases, 3D printer specs, or custom figures you need to post elsewhere as well and that includes reddit and ebay. That Tony is a good shot, scale and dimensions look great, that does look like it might be a Jacuzzi by a cliff in Malibu. And I dislike both comics and mcu IM.
>>11767724I've found I always feel miserable if I open too many things in one day. Like after a big purchase, it's better to open things over the course of the week. Do one thing at a time, enjoy what it is.
Ah shit a lot of people feel this too huh, well idk the answer but atleast im not alone
Opposite for me. I'm actually poor as fuck, so every figure is a big deal for me, so I have to actually be discerning with what I want, but there is just way too much of good stuff releasing in these days, so I'm suffering from severe case of FOMO.
>>11767724I've tried to put a pricing on every figure I want if I can't get it to that price I don't bother to get it on ebay or Mercari.(There are times I find multiple in one week and then feel awful even though I was eventually gonna get them)Have an idea of what's the endgame the worse thing you can ever do is hoard crap that's never gonna see daylight in some storage room. Visualize where they will be you don't need everything and it's gonna be hard in the future to resell because gen alpha and beta don't give af about toys only ipads and baby shark Doo Doo.
>>11767726I just keep the cardboard and careful open the figure that way if in the future I want to put it back I can.May not be mint but idgaf it does the job
>>11767728.... I didn't notice they were Loli anime girl figures. Like Do they even get girls? Or get laid because what do women think or any human once they step in their room?
>>11770191Sex is unattainable for a good deal of intelligent white and east asian men, which is leading to massive issues in the world. This is fucking 4chan's /toy/ board, it should not surprise you that people here do not get laid often.
>>11770198I've seen some of the toy community get ass now that it's becoming more main stream but this is just crazy. I can somewhat understand having gooner character skins in video games but you gotta draw the line somewhere.
>>11769838Yeah, I feel disgusted and kind of ashamed if I go on a toy-opening binge. I space them out one per week and regularly sell on ebay when I'm sick of them. I take photos as my excuse for buying them in the first place.
>>11768039Being laid up is the perfect time to read. I think Ghosts is a pretty stupid TV show but my back was killing me and I also had a fucking migraine and can't find my meds, so I just laid in bed but out of boredom started pirate streaming the last about 9 episodes, they are about 20 minutes and I did this on and off.But if my head was normal, I would have just read.
>>11768365Screw people who complain anon I love seeing pics of toys and I wish people would post more
>>11770368Cool figure, what is it?
>>11770718Joytoy Frontline Chaos Gilly with a custom head, pulse rifle from Gridiron.
>How do you stop buying or at least be more discerning?you have to have rules. whatever that means for you. whether it be only certain lines, specific characters, etc
>>11767724Yeah, you've definitely got to slow down if that's only part of your haul for weeks. Even if money's no object, lack of space eventually catches up to everyone. That looks like about what I buy in a year and after collecting 17 years, even with selling stuff over time, have about 300-400 figures with space getting pretty tight. Made a rule for myself that I don't buy a figure without getting rid of an old one and knowing where I'm going to put the new one. Despite that, the collection will still grow because of gifts.
>>11770717This isn't a thread for toy photography or even display It's essentially about hoarding
>>11767728To be fair, DC/Marvel fans are also prone to hoarding. It totally vindicates me in being a scrimblo bimblo appreciator as it makes the characters I like so visually interesting that I have no need to be constantly getting different variants of them nor is there any need for variants to exist in the first place.
>>11768290This is me but Lego.
>>11767724I have a general buying shit online problem. I like the dopamine hit of getting a package. It doesn't quite give me more pleasure than the item itself but it's close.
