I buy shit that looks cool. I obsess over a lot of media and characters so whenever I see merchandise of my favorite character I will buy it, but I don't consider myself a collector. I live in a small apartment so I don't have a lot of space, when it gets overwhelming I'll sell my stuff. However I do keep my most treasured items. I don't outright buy everything, if it's not appealing to me I won't buy it even if it's based of a character I love, for example I stay away from Funko pop and adjacent figures, cheap Chinese knock offs and shitty plastic slop from McDonald's. I also don't collect rubber duck figures of pop culture characters.
>>11768595There have been times where I was the consumer who impulse-bought shit I ended up regretting. I've learned to overcome that, and learned to focus more on what I actually give a shit about.

>>11768606Same
>>11768606Yeah, same here. Recently I went out to the "nice" Walmart since I have an errand out there and hadn't been in a few months. Anyway, I stick to a tight budget but got three figures and like always whenever I get "greedy" I ended up disliking one of three figures. It's a recurring lesson life tries to teach my hard headed ass whether it's toys or food or movies etc etc. Idk, I'm really trying to get away from toys and back into comics. Comics are pretty cheap if you buy used tpbs and the enjoyment is usually longer lasting overall. They look good on shelves like toys do but chicks won't blink if they see a bookshelf filled with books as they might when they see several shelves filled with action figures and models etc
>>11768631Figures are way cooler looking than comics on a shelf.
>>11768606There are cases were you can be a fan of something but there aren't good quality products of it. In my case is with Alien films, I love these movies but you can't get good figures of it. The McFart ones are highly inaccurate and barely articulated; NECA ones have good sculpts but that's it (I wonder who will cry at me with impotent rage); MonsterArts ones are too stylized and smol, same for Revoltech ones; Mezco and Mafex fucked up their Bigchaps so bad that aren't options, also they didn't make more Xenos; I don't like HotToys because these shitty figures take a lot of space and barely move, even if they're more detailed, the proportions are all fucked and the sculpts still inaccurate; Hiya ones are okayish but I don't like the scale and the heights of the figures are usually wrong; finally Figma and 52toys aren't based on the movies so doesn't count, either way, the Figma one is the smalles Xeno by import brands and the 52toys one is a floppy mess. So the best ones are the Kenner and Lanard ones but I want high detailed, with good articulation and decent paint figures more than funny toys so right now I keep waiting and waiting and waiting...
>>11768606This describes me for the most part. Higher prices have also gotten me to impulse buy less stuff too.
>>11768595I, me, my... Every. Fucking. Sentence.
>>11768606I've got better about impulse purchasing, but yeah its still a struggle at times especially for cheaper stuff.>What's $5, $10, etc.? It's fine! And then I end up with a lot of crap sitting around that I feel bad about throwing out. Also buying stuff I 'like' instead of 'love'. I like a lot of things, yet I can't buy everything. I'm trying to force myself to be okay with not owning things I like and even some stuff I love. I need to get better at that.
I only buy figures of things that I truly, truly love. Right now for figures I have>NECA TF2 Heavy>Eva Unit 02>Phase 1 Clone Trooper>Kaiji Nedroid>StaraptorThat is my total figure collection after about 15 years of buying /toy/ shit.I did consoom LEGO for a few years but I massively downsized my collection. And because the market is retarded and I never had time to build it all, a profited lol.
>>11768595I also consoom what I want. I dont have to know anything about the character or what it's from. It helps if I can afford it too
>>11768595I am similar to you, but within this genre of collectibles, I only buy 1/12 figures, so I don't buy things like statues or whatever. I also generally only buy one figure of a character unless it's something/someone exceptional. I too, don't consider myself a collector, I watch how other collectors feel a requirement to just buy literally any figure that appears even remotely competent of almost anything and will actively chastise/be aghast at someone else for not doing the same on a figure. So you "must" get SexyIce figures, even if you don't want random monotone insect men, because how can you not, they are so in demand?! Also the compulsion to collect "a line" or finish a team has no interest to me, I just eccletically pick and choose whatever is appealing to me, I won't buy stuff just to go together with something I actually want.
>>11768814I also agree and feel like this. I have the exact same thoughts on xenos and predators, though I am actually waiting for the inevitable 52toys first film alien and their predator looks like it will be the one for me. I also actually like the yoshi predator, so I am down for that one, though I might change my mind.

>>11768595I've laid out some ground rules to follow 1. If I like at least more than half of a cast of characters, I will complete them for completion's sake.2. Have a theme in mind as I follow #1. Most important main cast only? Replicating the cast of the first installment instead of the sequels? In case of a franchise like Pokémon, I'll only collect my top favorites. No getting them all or hell, not even replicating my teams from each of the games.3. Pricy =/= must have. Some iterations of a character's action figure I like the most are actually cheap and for small children instead of high-end adult collectables.4. Only collect characters from IPs I will love until my dying breath. I like and consume a lot of media but I don't like them enough to collect toys based off them.
>>11769092>I also agree and feel like this. I also actually like the yoshi predator, so I am down for that one, though I might change my mind.I just hope they make the joints more stiff and that it sell well enough so we can get more versions of the Xeno. Also, yeah, I like mostly how Jungle Hunter looks but I feel like the jaws in the closed mouth head are a bit too thick but I will wait for a painted prototype to judge the sculpt better. I remember a prototype of Wolf Predator, I think the company was called RebooterToys or something like that, it looked great so in the side of the Preds atleast looks like we will have options.>>11769464That's great! hope he finish it.
>>11770487I see no reason to follow a cast or a team rule.Absolutely none. You could save grief money and angst taking out that and #2 that follows from that.I only say like Cap, so why bother collecting Bucky or Sharon or Peggy or Sam. If I only like Cap, get his WWII figure from the first movie and something from his second or the first Avenger team up. I only like Hawkeye so I get him as well but not Tony or Nat or Bruce or anyone else from the team movies and not Nat or Fury or Winter Solider or anyone else from the second Cap film.Easy peasy. I own three toys, and saved myself from buying anywhere form 10-15 toys.
