So who will be making the more kid friendly TMNT figures since playmates lost the license? Is there any media to support a new toyline?
I'm really tempted to give in and grab some of the s7 stuff off of bbts. I'm no fan of there's but how else can I get an ace or krang etc etc
>>
>>11783675
>So who will be making the more kid friendly TMNT figures since playmates lost the license?
Mattel, starting in January
>>
>>11783676
Mattel won't make any money since the world is collapsing
>>
>>11783677
Ah, here comes our little ray of sunshine.
>>
>>11783680
Sorry, did you want to stick your head in the sand?
>>
>>11783675
mattel is currently showing everyone else its still possible to make good and cheap toys for kids with the motu movie line, i think tmnt will be safe in their hands there
the real issue is they don't have a great track record with collector toys outside of wrestling
>>
>>11783726

The Street Sharks line was good.
>>
How's super7? Bbts is having a fire sale of tmnt and there's some stuff I've been wanting.
>>
>>11783755
It was not. It was terrible, there's a reason it got cancelled.
>>
>>11783758
They’re great at full price, so even better on a discount.
>>
>>11783758

I got Ace Duck and Metalhead. They're pretty good.
>>
>>11783771
>They’re great at full price
Lol, no. There's only like, three figures that would be worth full price.

>even better on a discount.
They are only good on discount.
>>
>>11783776
This but NECA
>>
>>11783786
Nope, NECA's way, way better
>>
>>11783776
This. Super7 is mostly okay to very bad. Wingnut, Muckman, and a couple others are the only gems. The whole line is kind of shockingly outdated and makes you wonder if Super7 really ever understood how to make an action figure. Worse still when you consider how much time has passed from wave 1 to 12.

Daimyo Orkai & Raptor up for pre-order on all the usuals. This is from the "Wanderer Mikey" issue.

I have bought a grand total of 4 Super7 Ultimates figures. 2 of them had QC issues. Even at 70% off, you're still taking a gamble.
>>
>>11783758
I just saw how cheap BBTS is selling a bunch of these for...yeah, go to town. At fucking $11-$13 a pop? You're fine. The hips will probably be loose, especially on the larger figures, but you can load up pretty easily for prices that low. They're practically giving them away now.
>>
>>11783802

Oh damn. Removable helmet?
>>
This is what I got.
>>
>>11783837
You should be pretty happy with that haul.
>>
>>11783838
I'm going to put the turtles in time around my tmnt arcade. If they still have robot bebop and rocksteady I might get those as well. I always wanted mutagen and muck man.
>>
>>11783683
In or out, it's happening all the same.
might as well at least enjoy the nice calming sounds of cool, moist earth before they start taxing it
>>
>>11783758
I'm a fan, but QC is an issue. Check all of their joints right away, and demand replacements for any broken ones before those are gone.
I'm really, really hoping that with Playmates slain, S7 classic Ultimates will return again, but if not.. Iunno, I've had a weird desire to try making them myself
>>11783776
yeah I have to agree here. I spent an average of 35 each for these guys, and that's what they're worth. Aside from a few little flaws.
>>
>>11783802
I think my mom had those exact pants
>>11783812
yeah plus they can be tightened up

what can't easily be tightened is the inner torso joint, which is the real problem. But that's only on the turtles and metalhead. Slash and most other characters are totally fine in that regard.
>>
>>11783837
ahhh you're more a fan of the toon/game side of things. You made good choices, mutagen man and muckman fit just fine around those.
Slash has to be a weird case of both S7 and Neca Arcade Line being identically awesome.
>>
>>11783614
I'm really torn as to whether or not I should grab the remastered 6 pack or just wait on whatever mattel has cooking
>>
i wonder why bugman never got a classic toy. I realize they kinda stopped adding shit from the show at a certain point, but he fits that oeuvre so well.
>>
>Playmates ends its ~40 year tenure by packaging the half of the iconic villain duo it bothered to make with a lazy repaint and charging a premium for it
I look forward to the monthly bankruptcy threads
>>
>>11783676
>>11783726
Ah, so maybe the TOG was a trial run? I skipped the turtles themselves but I did buy the footclan aka bad guys and I thought they worked well with my origins collection. Between motu, TMNT, DC and the terribly over looked were superstars line I may need to just buy a share of mattel stock instead of the figures.

You mentioned collector focused lines and wwe and while I only have a couple the WWE elite stuff is really good and you could call it excellent for the $30-$40 they usually run for. You guys might want to check out the wacky ass artist collaboration figures they done, it's uhm, it's unique I guess. I'd rather have a fan designed line than an artist line but thatd likely suck too.

Basically it's Playmates arguing
>Noooo, you can't take the TMNT license from us! It's integral to our brand, if we lose it we'll go out of business! You shouldn't be able to give it to someone else because we're synonymous with the brand!
Meanwhile pic related is Paramount.
>>
>>11784736
i assume they are trying to keep all the rights to their vintage designs at the very least so mattel can't just copy the idea of S7's ultimates at a better price point
>>
>>11784792
Gotta love such an underhanded, cheapskate company suddenly bawwwing that someone else is using legal means to diminish their business.

mattel needs to give a big thumbs up to super7 just out of spite. "here, here's all the playmates designs, go nuts"
>>
>>11784813
oh yeah the ones sculpted by.. *checks notes* Mattel. well, ex-Mattel anyway
>>
>>11784736
Best case scenario is that Playmates works out a deal with Paramount that would allow Mattel to claim the master toyline license to make any modern/new Turtles figures but Playmates would still be able to sell their classic re-releases.
>>
>>11784844

Man, I hope.
>>
I bought an embarrassing number of super7 turtles at full price (including the party wagon). Ah well.
>>
>>11784844
>Playmates works out a deal with Paramount
That clearly is not going to happen. Playmates is acting like a pussy bitch like they have for the last several years. They're going to get their shit stomped hard.
>>
>>11784944
Weird thing is, it doesn't even say what they're hiring the lawyers for. Might be something incredibly minor and trivial for all we know.
>>
>>11784844
That is absolutely NOT going to happen
>>
>>11784844
why would you bother taking the master license from someone just to continue letting them boss you around on its use?
>>
>>11784813
Likely this. It's not like how Kenner got absorbed into Hasbro so now they can remake the Kenner designed figures. I would still prefer playmates retain the license for the vintage stuff and continue re-releasing them. Even if it's online only so as not to compete with Mattels toy section. Just cant make new TMNT figures of products.
>>
>>11785089
Completely unlikely that. They aren't going to be allowed to do jack shit. This is purely Playmates seeing how fucked they are and panicking.
>>
>>11784951
>https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:share:7458564328837890048/
more than likely its to do with the star trek line
>>
>>11785105
Oh. False alarm then.
>>
>>11785089
why? why not have mattel do it
they'll do it more competently.
>>
>>11784813
>>11784831
>>11784792
>>11785089
They're going to have a hard time arguing it, when the designs have appeared in other media and been made by Super7 and Loyal Subjects, and also by Mondo among orhers. Brian Flynn said that they had that loophole when Playmates still had the license. So if a particular design appeared in a game, or comic, or an advertisement, etc., it meant that they could argue that the design was based off the game Shredder's Revenge or somewhere else. Paramount will likely argue tooth an nail that it's their IP, and they own the designs, which is usually the case, but TMNT may be trickier regarding how the rights were handled.
>>
>>11785123
I wish they had used that loophole more. There were so many they could have made without compromising the Ultimates line.
They also could have hired four horsemen to do like, their Karai etc. to make her look a lot better.
hell they almost gave us a rat king that looked like Shredder's Revenge, so why not Karai from there? but as an ultimates. She looked great in that. So did Mona Lisa.
>>
>>11785123
Im talking about straight making vintage figures just as the way playmates made them. That's why I used the Kenner Hasbro comparison. Hasbro make Star wars figures in the same exact style as the original Kenner ones. Hasbro even make new SW characters in the same Kenner retro style. And the Ghostbusters retro remakes as well. They were designed by Kenner and Hasbro just replicated it and rereleased them in the retro card line, like the recent Fright Features figures. Playmates is likely trying to keep their vintage style of tmnt figures, vehicles, and playsets designs that they've made. Mattel would be free to make any of the vintage characters for their tmtn line but can't copy playmates style of figures unless it's a newer character playmante has never made a figure for, like Tempestra or Lord Dregg from the Red Sky seasons.
>>
>>11785220
and why would anyone agree to this?
it sounds like what you really want is for mattel to buy playmates, which at this point, why would they? it's dead. let it die on the vine. they had every opportunity to use the turtles to fuel great advancements, and instead, they behaved like Gamefreak. "bare minimum, whatever, this shit prints money"
>>
>>
>>11785123
>They're going to have a hard time arguing it
The argument is that they have decades of steel production moulds that they spent a lot of money on and become useless for them if they're not able to retain the license to produce them, and the lack of income from not being able to sell them is detrimental to their operations. Then you also go after the shareholders and imply that because your brand is so synonymous with the Ninja Turtles IP that it becomes a tricky legal loophole with certain characters designed and created by them that may put them in legal liability to use. And you imply that the fandom may turn against buying products from a new manufacturer because they're so used to Playmates making the toys thay they might find the Mattel figures unappealing. There's plenty of legal implications they can bring to court to at the very least convince the judge to move the two companies to arbitration, and my thought was what I was saying I feel would be the best outcome of that.
>>
>>11785288
first of all, no they don't. they've started self-bootlegging because those old molds are dinosaur bones.
secondly, they have proven their absolute incompetence at doing any of what you're saying they feel they have the right to do. Paramount owns the brand, lock, stock, and barrel, so..
they'd be better off doing what all other big companies do and just bribe the judge

Punk Donnie is also popping up at ROSS. At this point I might as well wait it out and see if the vaction Turtles get the single ROSS treatment. They haven't moved at the target that stocked them. Surprisingly the Stan TMNT are hanging on. Only Usagi was the quick sell out.
