I am not paying these prices
It does look great - as far as prototypes go - but even for want a better looking head sculpt and a more realistic human body versus the class toy he-man body proportion, not worth what they want to charge for this crap

I'm happy to wait for the porn art that Japanese school girls will soon festoon xshitter with inb4 takedown notices and also to wait for the eventual bootleg - unless the movie bombs.

I don't hate it. It gives these sets kind of a Mighty Max feel. But I dislike that it replaces the standard Mega Construx figures as I was intently collecting that line and would have been ecstatic to get movie versions of those figures. So it's maybe not for me, but I can see why it might appeal to people.
>>
>>11800103
let's just say that if these had proper minifigs that I would've pre-ordered every set day one.

It has so far for core. Check any retail site for the number of sales against chronicles and origins. There’s a reason all the origins are exclusive now. MotU is finding the next generation as it should while tucking the boomers into their deathbed.
>>
>>11800164
>stealing the spotlight from their Mighty Masters line.
If this was true then give the same articulation to those mighty masters. Add a ball peg at the foot and a ball peg or cut at the wrist, and I'd collect them all. They're still cool but just don't do enough for me to want more than maybe a couple. Kinda like a better, smaller version of Hasbro's ActionVerse.

These are perfect boomer bait.
I’m into them because I have a deep appreciation of hemans legacy for toys in general but don’t want to pay an arm and a leg for an original collection. These will pair nicely with my books.
>>
>>11800214
They should really have toys at checkout counters not just candy. 5 below’s whole business model is a store of impulse buys imagine a cutout for that at someplace like Walmart just remove the magazines nobody buys.
>>
Slime Pit has a lightup pit base, but the slime comes in a bag. No classic slime container
>>
>>11800233
I'm sure someone will 3D print one
>>
>>11800218
Walmart does tend to have a few toys by the checkout, mostly Mario, Sonic, and a few Disney things and then some candys that come with some bonus like kinder eggs
>>
>>11800250
Those tend to be in their own sections now. Less near every register
>>
>>11800198
to be fair, there is tons of boomer products, and they are expecting the movie to get a new public....
if that will happen, probably not.
>>
>>11799833
>>11799856
I just noticed something...Octavia has what looks like notches on the back of her head....is that a helmet? I've spent years thinking she had a weird haircut, but is it actually a weird helmet instead?

Also, looking at the art and thinking about toy construction...the tentacles are not on the back, but come out where the arms do. Do you think she's going to have a normal torso with a "tentacle adaptor" piece that plugs into the shoulder socket and then her normal arms plug into the adaptor? Sorta like how Slither's skirt adaptor works for her tail?
>>
since masters of the wwe is coming back, I'm looking to the old waves for any gems I missed.
Rattlesnake Jake has that awful classics armor and Undertaker looks kinda goofy, but I definitely missed out on The Rock so I nabbed him. Anyone else miss that line? It was a weird era when we only had a couple waves of vintage origins and a bunch of random wrestlers with classics gear.

It's crazy how hard mattel is going on 200x He-Man figs. All new sculpts for every release. I have a feeling though that it's gonna be ROSS fodder. None of the stores have stock anything past wave 1 and movie stuff is already taking over the peg space. Oh they definitely lost the TM for Slime. I forget if it was common usage argument (for which Band-Aids still fights for decades later) or simply not renewed in a timely fashion. I'd say the latter because otherwise they'd still use "Slime" as a name.

Panthorman and recolor Panthro, LionO are already hitting ROSS. Been trying to find Panthorman for two weeks. Sketch 2 packs and He-man also hitting ROSS so the TF collabs are surely to get dumped as well. Most targets got rid of all their stock by pricing them below $10 so good luck. You might still find them instore.

With Masterverse I seriously realize how it didn't had sny expectations compared to Origins. It died and I don't see people complaining about all the figures that never got done.

Most of sublines died so soon, no one ever expected them to get finished. And no one thought that Vintage or New Eternia actually will finish vintage lineup.

I think the biggest disappointment was lack of snake men and maybe movie versions of MAA and Trela.
>>
>>11803874
At least for me, it was because they were so hard to get, and the Chronicles figures are just better, so it's (so far) brighter times ahead. I'm sure if I was a completionist I'd be disappointed, but I didn't have a chance to get so many of the ones I thought looked really good, but at the same time the figures weren't good enough to pay scalped prices for.
>>
>>11803874
Crossing my fingers this doesn't happen with 200x. I've only just started getting into the line this past month but I am ready and willing to go all in.

>>
>>11803907
The 200x line makes zero sense when you think about it. They must’ve sculpted almost everything before even starting production so they could crank everything out to avoid the line abruptly ending before getting everything. The amount of figures we’ve gotten in less than a year is crazy.

I think most just never expected it to go anywhere, it was unpopular from the start and took years to start making versions of the characters people even like. And the figures themselves still have issues they just can’t fix like the proportions and joint stiffness. If origins didn’t stick the landing as hard as it did initially most collectors probably would have given up on it too.

I figured they were just going to push the BA mold since it would permit them the chance to double dip on a vintage slime pit he-man down the road. Having said as much is anyone else surprised by how infrequently they use Faker? He was in origins early on, then popped up in masterverse twice, but he hasnt showed up since. Even Slaker was more of a turtle than a Faker. It'd be cool to see them give Faker the masterverse AE Heman treatment, and prioritize a fresh new mold for him.

200X silver Gauntlets come off?

I won a spot to a special showing of the movie tonight in NYC. There was a bag on each seat with a figure inside, I got Skeletor. I was sitting next to a family, Dad got He-Man, Mom got a skel-knight, and the daughter, a young girl in a She-Ra cosplay (real She-Ra, not netflix) got Skeletor. It was supposed to start around 7, but it was actually about 7:40 when first mattel's ceo came out and gave a corpospeak about brands, then Travis Knight came out and gave a moreso human speech about his childhood appreciation for MotU and making the movie, then they brought out the actresses for Sorceress, Evil-Lyn and Teela, and then the actor for He-Man for clapping and THEN started the movie.

The movie was great! Extremely true to MotU lore. I didn't take out my watch but the total earth screentime can't have been more than 15-20 minutes, and that's including the time with Teela and Beast Man present. It was mostly heartfelt, but there were occasional bits of ironic millennial style writing here and there. On the whole it was good, serious when it needed to be, funny, emotional. I really hope it kicks ass at the box office.

I don't want to drop major spoilers, especially when /toy/ has no spoilers, so just some small things
>no mention of or reference to Keldor at all, nothing
>Skeletor was fantastic, very serious threat, humor came from his hamminess and frustration with his minions
>like three credit scenes (major bombshell there, really hoping for a sequel) plus a post credit one
>Beast Man doesn't speak
>best fight was probably He-Man vs Goat Man, Tri-Klops, Karg, Spikor, and Skel-knights
>Dolph Lundgren has a very cute cameo

Go see the movie, have a good time.

My worry about the movie originally was when Leto got announced as Skeletor I thought that meant he was unlikely to be silly because Leto takes himself too seriously and that meant he'd be a try-hard grimdark version of Skeletor, but the recent clip they put out proved that wrong and I'm excited for the movie again. MotU should be silly.
>>
>>11807347
Skeletor has always had silly moments from the 80s to even the 200X show. Those people have no fucking clue.
>>
>>11807347
I am a bit worried after hearing Pixel Dan's initial review (he seemed to be holding back a lot of mixed thoughts), and Jeremy Jahns review (~80% of the time I agree with him).
My cope is that I hope it'll at least be entertaining. And if I don't like the movie, then at least I have plenty to enjoy from the cartoons, comics, and toys.
>>
>>11807347
It's not that Skeletor or other characters are silly. It's that the movie can't help itself, points at them and says "HEY ISN'T THIS GUY SILLY, LOOK HOW SILLY HE IS, LAUGH NOW AND CLAP, RETARDS!"
>>
>>11807570
Jeremy liked it though but some of the humor didn't land for him apparently.

>Skeletor has always had silly moments from the 80s to even the 200X show. Those people have no fucking clue.

Hatter is just a hardcore fanboy even when he's not in character. I get echoing the community response to negatives and all as it's part of his character's job. All that matters to Amazon is box office success and sales. If it does middling, they'll probably still do a sequel just for the possibility of getting better results as Amazon wants content people talk about.

That Tomorrow War movie with Pratt was so meh, but Amazon promoted the shit out of it and greenlit a sequel fast for something that was just streaming. Amazon will be the deciding factor for MotU, not Mattel

I've seen some of that too, the only thing I will agree with is that much st kids don't know about motu and that maybe a movie isn't exactly the best way to introduce a new generation of kids to franchise. I agree with that idea, but y'know of my kid was younger and she knew of the figures I collected then I think it would help to flesh out eternia and make the figures easier to understand. Kinda hard to get excited about a half naked man and his battles against another half naked man who has a skull for a face.

On a totally different note I found this clip from the 80s during the satanic panic about how he man leads to or is devil worship. Haven't watched it yet but I thought one of you might laugh after seeing it.

So non-spoiler thoughts:

Great movie, a lot of fun the whole time. I get giving Skeletor the red eyes to help improve the character's emoting and so forth. Music was excellent. My wife kept saying how much she enjoyed the music and wished they had gone stronger with it once in Eternia to use it more effectively not unlike the '80s Flash Gordon movie. It was sometimes cheesy, it was sometimes serious, yet never got boring. Might consider rewatching it in a few weeks which is rare for us. Thor Love and Thunder suggestions is a disservice to it. I would say this is much closer to Thor 1's fish-out-of-water with bits of Ragnarok and Flash Gordon sprinkled in. Jared Leto was good, Alison Brie was amazing, the Man of He was charming and endearing. Idris did a great performance unlike when he mails it in during the Thor movies. Riverdale Teela was cute and effective, unlike the fears. A lot of design homage of 200X and some mixing of original with that. Battle Cat could have used a little more. Morena Baccarin could have been used a touch more, but still the cast was balanced well. James Purefoy was great despite how little he was in it. The rest of the Evil Warriors underlings didn't get enough lines to really develop beyond their battle moments.

Got the drink cup Sword of Power, but they wanted $62.99 plus tax for the Castle as a "popcorn/drink combo" so I blew it off since the manager wouldn't sell it any other way. Found the other color Core Skel-Knights finally at Target and the re-issue of Origins He-Man/Skeletor also at Target. Great day overall.
>>
built my Eternia playset tonight! really not worth the $650 but I'm glad I have the grail here and set up. I've also been reading the prequel novel for the movie
>Teela, Daughter of Eternos
it seems that playset Eternia being heaven is an idea they're sticking to in this continuity, as Preternia is name dropped during a funeral in the first chapter or so. Also Andra is there. Otherwise it's a good book! It feels like they probably have a whole story bible written out that's a blend of Classics ideas and other sources that is dictating nu-canon/evergreen stuff. We'll probably see more of the movie continuity in the future...
>>
>>
>>11810059
>Teela, Daughter of Eternos
Got that on my watch list if it goes on sale. I figure it's very YA, but sometimes the novel tie-ins are fun for some world building insights. Zodac getting named dropped in the movie with a religious context implied made me curious what the religion/lore behind the series was.

I think they're great. Mattel just needs to do more of them in different themes. They are like a modern design of the old toy soldiers. With them having connecting strip that lock onto studs, they can also double as board game pieces. That's where I see them becoming popular.

Just got back from the movie. I honestly enjoyed it more than I thought I would. It's certainly it's own version of masters of the universe. Much how every version changes things a bit. Found this review in the comments section of a youtube video.

>This movie was atrocious!! I can’t believe people are saying it captures the spirit of the cartoon, no it doesn’t, it’s captures the memes and T-shirts… the cartoon is unintentionally funny in retrospect, but it was played straight at the time - the characters weren’t sniggering every-time they said Fisto.. every heroic or sincere moment in this was undercut by frat-boy humour, it was like Your Highness!

>The show had Orko as comedic relief and Skeletors put downs, that’s it, that’s the only time we should be laughing, we didn’t need Adam finding the sword and the film trying to make us laugh because it looks like he’s humping it - completely wrong approach! Wasted opportunity, waste of 200 million.

>D&D flopping, and the fan backlash to love & thunder should’ve be enough of a warning… People are sick of having fantasy worlds interrupted by cynical and ironic, self-aware, Marvel-style humour…. There was an entirely different MOTU movie that could’ve been made, where you put Stratos in it instead of Fisto, that still was lighthearted and with funny moments, but took its world seriously - this felt like when you played with the toys as a kid, and then your older cousin comes over and starts taking the piss out of it all.

I can't understand why some people can't get that this is a version of motu. Every iteration is a version of motu. They are ALL different.
This isn't a live action version of the filmation version and for fucks sake there are more fucking versions of motu than the goddamn filmation version.
Ther is filmation, NA, 200X, revelations/revolutions, CGI, rhe 80s movie, and numerous comic versions and they are all diffrent from each other.
Getting mad because this isn't muh filmation is a tourist take.
I know given time this will be a cult classic up there with the first motu movie.
I really hope it does well enough to get a sequel.

I've just come back from a screening. The movie punishes the audience. It frequently reaches high highs then rugpulls those moments with the worst of the worst quippy SNL irony humor it can. It's frustrating beyond description. If someone were to have cut all the humor from the film, or atleast 80% of the gags that made it to the final cut, the movie would have easily jumped upto an 11/10. It gets so much right yet goes out of its way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. As it is, I can only really give it a 6/10. If you arent irked by marvel humor you will probably enjoy it considerably more than I did, but what was delivered is a C-.

There's more I'd love to say but I dont want to spoil anyone.

Yeah the dialogue script writer really dropped the ball. It’s like they were determined to not take this seriously at all. I don’t blame the actors though.
>>
It’s the brain dead masses, they see a film have below at 75% rating and get gun shy but gladly go see a 20% movie that had maybe 7 good jokes.
>>
>>11813045
I cant thank you enough for the undertaking. Such a shame things had to turn out this way.
>>11813057
The very people who worked on this movie sabotaged it. Had it been more self confident and unapologetic about it's fantasy elements it'd have won the hearts of millions. Instead it's like an entire movie's worth of bumblebee piss takes.
>>
>>11812899
I'd say so. Mattel will likely make an effort to coast off the dwindling middle aged vintage fan audience for atleast the next decade, After that? Kaput. It was a pleasure to be a master of the universe alongside you all. Cant say we didnt go out with a bang.

Ditto on Grayskull btw. While I'm not offput by this movie's campier elements, I just know an edgy take on He-man circa 2008 would have had much stronger legs. There's moments in this movie where they tease a much more competent He-man before shirking away from delivering it. It's no surprise those are some of the more memorable parts of the picture.
>>
>>11813039
Ackshully 50 year old men are the only guys going to watch this in theaters, that's the entire problem. Fans under 40 are the rare exception.

>>
>>11813138
The actors honestly won me over at several points in the movie. It's the minute those stupid jokes leave their lips that all their excellent efforts are dashed and the entire facade falls to pieces. We were a cunt hair away from true excellence.
>>
>>11813177
its really not even that
this franchise just has not been relevant since the 80s, zoomers only know skeletor and the hey-ya memes, kids don't know even that
truthfully for this movie to have been successful it needed to either come out 20 years ago or have 2-3 cartoons on cable in the 2 decades since to keep it fresh on people's minds, as is their audience is mostly 40-50 year olds, and they spent way too fucking much on the budget for an audience that limited
>>
>>11813235
This. The actors did better than expected. But the cringe dialogue by writers kept fucking over the movie experience.

I can live with them, all teases were as obvious as Skeletor declaring he'll be back in the old movie. None of new characters werei in sny way unique in their interpretation that made me want to see more of that specific version.

>>11813138
I wouldnt mind jokes if they were actually that funny. At least early MCU movies had decent enough gags to feel like they were worth it

Here we get Fisto and Dian going

"Sword looks smaller than. I thought"

"That's because my hand is so big"

"You're holding it in your other hand"

"My other hand is pretty big too."
>>
I think the biggest offender was Adam. He's not big macho tough guy, ok, that's fine. But he's written like a dumb manchild like something I'd expect from Orko. Constantly telling people he's from another planet and not expecting them to think he's crazy? Calling people over and over by nicknames he gave them as kid instead of learning their names? Not knowing what fisting means? And let's not get me started on final gag in the movie, that was just making him way too stupid just for the sake of the reference
>>
>>11813232
>I want to believe the toys will sell well but I just dont think they will.
The Core line is flying off the shelves. It's estimated to sell 1.5 to 3 million figures in the next 12 months, whereas Origins is estimated to sell only 300k to 500k figures in that same time frame.

Core is a massive hit, which is what matters. Parents are buying them up for their kids. So it doesn't matter if the movie bombs... Mattel wins anyway because they brought in some new fans. That was the real goal with this movie. And whatever money the film loses will easily be made up for with merchandise sales.
>>
>>11812899
Keep going to see it
>>
>>11813283
The jokes at Adam's expense are the most egregious. His character already starts off at the lowest possible point. For the sake of establishing his position in his journey, I can understand depicting him as a down on his luck loser for the first 20 minutes of the film. Once they're on Eternia? The jokes should have ended. The moment he becomes He-man for the first time? That was the point of no return. They had the audience by the balls and they insisted on characterizing him like a buffoon. The transformation should be the mark of the rising action. Instead they just keep hamfisting the same stupid quips. It ruins alot of the great moments in the middle if the movie.

Also the entire gag about the cast's names being made up by kid Adam? Utterly retarded. The constant haha fisto sex joke line made me groan. Frankly the heroic warriors only really got to shine in the opening fight and the jail scene, and even the jail scene was a bit burdened by awkward humor.

So, were more of these guys supposed to appear and they just ran out of budget?

Or did Travis Knight literally just put a single one in as a cameo - because that seems like a bit of an odd choice. There is literally a blink and you miss is shot of Fisto fisting one to death, but that's it.

Also yeah absolutely loved the film. Definitely the funnest film I've seen in years. After it was over I saw some kid was saying to his dad "THAT WAS THE BEST FILM I'VE EVER SEEN" and his dad clearly did not give a single fuck lol. But the little boy in me totally agreed with the kid.

>>11813271

I've watched the film twice now and didn't clock that. Nice. I'm really curious what will be in the art book.
>>
>>11812341
>If it bombs
It bombed. It was under 30Mil in the US and under 54Mil worldwide. That's atrocious for a 200Mil budget. This thing won't make more than 200-215Mil Worldwide by the end of its run. With the budget as high as it was, the break even point is like what? 400-500Mil?
>>
Is the one chick who pushed Adam as a kid and later is with the Heroic Warriors, a character from any of the lore?

>>11812977
Tbf you don't know if a film's flopped until its second week. You really need to see what the dropoff is.

Titanic made less than $30 million on its opening weekend. (Not that I think MOTU will do anything close to Titanic numbers, just saying it has potential for staying power given it got good reviews and also it genuinely vibes with young boys and the summer holidays are coming up).

What if the film is a hit on prime video? Could this greenlit a sequel? Voltron is going strsight to streaming next year and it has a similar budget to MotU (and its also comedic and accurate to cartoon).

>>
>>11813448
>we're at 55mil in the box office now. not sure where break even is, but that's still not bad for opening weekend, no?
Awful. Breakeven is usually 2-2.5x the budget. So probably around half a billion. Even if this does incredible Prime streaming numbers, it'd have to make up the difference after the box office total.

Random female warriors joins heroic warriors, wears Royal Guard armor at the end, based on soldier from old motu comic.

>>11813338
They were present in final fight but it you have to pay attention to background. One briefly flies on screen when Fisto punches trough it before he gets his gag with Ram Man.
>>
>>11813453
If Rings of Power can get to season 5 so can motu 2 and 3 happen, probably on a lower budget tho

Or maybe they make a live action show continuation of MotU movie? Like they did with stargate?
>>
>>11813352

I find it funny that Ram Man and others obect that those arent their real names but

a) movie never tells what they're really called basically signaling you to accept the nicknames.

b) Skeletor and Evil-Lyn really use those names.
>>
>>11813337
All their "real" names were invented by kid Adam because he couldnt remember their actual names. By the end of the film he manages to win them over, so they embrace their new monickers, but it just makes for so much unneccessary fiction. Sort of related, Femboto is just as cunty as you'd expect her to be. It gave me alot of Solo whiplash. Easily could have been the bumblebee of the movie had a guy voiced her and the dialogue were improved. Instead she's played off as rosie the robot with guns.
>>
>>11813352
I wrote that post before the movie premired, I still had hope then. Now it's very obvious it will sink to the bottom like a lead weight. If we manage to outgross mando it will be a miracle but even that seems to be too high a benchmark to strive for. At the very least we wont be abused with a shitty She-ra prime series.
>>
>>11813381
>>11813409
She was such a cunt in the film. Whenever she showed up on screen I found myself thinking "It would have been cool to see Man-E-Faces".
>>
>>11813427
I'm still annoyed Gygor was a taxidermied beast and not a realy background character. I recognize he's the glup shittiest of glup shittos but I'd have really loved to have seen him. Bjornson did a bang up job as Goat-Man in anycase. Really cant think of any duds in the cast besides Adam's bitchy boss and his ugly brown room mate. That room mate character just reminded me of the equally annoying fat brown friend tom holland's spiderman pals around with.
>>
>>11813436
Besides Minions and maybe Toy Story, MOTU doesnt have that much competition. Many are arguing Scary Movie is stealing it's thunder but I get the sense those were two seperate audiences regardless. If it can pick up steam in the next week it has a chance to clear 100 million, which means it would still be a bomb, but it will have atleast beaten mando.
>>
>>11813445
Hard to say as that would hinge entirely on online reception and toy sales. Voltron is the more perplexing option in this case because it's taken much more of a beating than MOTU did, and besides Cavil playing Alfor, I dont know if it has any legs with people under 40. Hell I'd argue Robotech would have better chances nowadays.
>>
The movie doing well isn't the only factor. They could lose money on production and still consider the movie a success if the merch moves numbers, because the movie is just a commercial for the product. But I fear they're not going to hit the numbers they're looking for with the merch because the age window of people buying the merch is very narrow, it's just the same 30+ year old adult fans buying the products that are alre already within the market. They desperately need to get kids invested in the brand to continue at numbers that can sustain the movie property and I'm just afraid that's a lost cause at this point.

Same here, I'll grab what I can but I just dont think this movie has the reach it needed to grab gen alpha. Just got back from the movie and had a lot of fun. It felt very MCU with the dialogue but that generally didn't bother me and most of the jokes landed for. It looked incredible though. Sets and costume design was spot on. Skeletor and Man-At-Arms were the highlights for me and I was very happy that my two favourite characters were paired against each other.
My screening was dead though. Only one kid with his mum, a few lads in their 20's and half a dozen 40-50 year olds including myself.

>>
>>11813626
>>11813621
really doesn't count to me as Blade unless he gets a scene that really focuses on him fighting He-Man with... well.. blades. Otherwise we've seen plenty of bald goons in MOTU. Same for Mer-Man in the after credits.
>>
>>11813594
>half a dozen 40-50 year olds

Man-At-Arms looks retarded as a dark chocolate man with chubby cheeks. He looks like a hamster wearing a helmet. And we're supposed to believe he's the father of a light-skinned Hispanic woman wearing green contact lenses. Ridiculous! The movie was clearly made for 9 year olds, or adults with the intelligence of a 9 year old.
>>
>>11813666

>>
>>11813668
>Teela is his adopted daughter
The movie has a completely different backstory than the cartoons. I watched it on DailyMotion, so I couldn't make out everything that was said, but I don't believe there was any mention of Teela being adopted, but I could be wrong. But even if she was adopted... well, that would be even more ridiculous because they didn't have contraception, nor did they have age of consent laws during the collapse of Eternia... so you know perfectly well that Duncan would've found Teela's meaty ass irresistible and got her knocked up at the tender age of 12.
>>

At one time my wish cast was Peyton List, but evil/emotionally messed up is a key part of her range as an actress, and the rando soldier called her "Force Captain Adora" not "Despara", so I suppose they wouldn't be doing the evil element.
>>
>>11813530
I actually thought when the Masters broke out of prison and started coughing that Stinkor was about to appear.
>>
>>11813734

>>
>>11813594
I cant get over what a brilliant rivalry they cooked up between these two. It really impressed me. Idris at Arms had more legs than I'd ever thought he would.
>>
>>11813724
Samara Weaving is too old for the role. She's 34. She-Ra should be played by someone half her age.
>>
>>11813476
Kids never showed up for MOTU anyway, so Toy Story and Minions shouldn't factor in too much. Teens are seeing Obsession, Backrooms and Scary Movie. But it's the older crowd that primarily saw MOTU. Barely anyone went this week so word of mouth won't be much of a factor after such a low opening weekend. Then Disclosure Day next week will be fighting for attention of the same 30s-50s crowd that primarily saw MOTU

Mando is still considered a light bomb and not a total disappointment, and that opened over 3x higher than MOTU did (only counting the 3 day weekend). There really doesn't seem to be any hope at all for MOTU now.
>>
>>11813732
That makes sense. I'd imagine that once you you wipe a kid's ass, it's difficult to see that ass as anything other than a turd factory... no matter how fine of an ass it may become.

“Masters of the Universe” is based on the Mattel action figure known as He-Man and marks the toy company’s second theatrical film after “Barbie.” Inaugural crowds were 66% male and nearly 40% were above the age of 45 — meaning that mostly fans of the ’80s toy and cartoon showed up. So “Masters of the Universe” will need to cater to broader audiences in the coming weeks in order to become profitable in its theatrical run.

In a statement, Amazon MGM’s domestic distribution chief, Kevin Wilson, repeated a similar sentiment about using a different barometer for success than rivals.

“[Director] Travis Knight and the entire cast and filmmaking team have delivered something truly special, and this opening is exactly the kind of critical first moment that validates our holistic distribution strategy—building awareness and engagement that will carry well beyond the theatrical window.”

It'll be fine. A box office bomb with good reception from critics and audience is almost as good as a smash hit because of the PR value. "Beloved cult classic!" Plenty of franchises have run with results like that.
