This is actually an extended trickle theme that I'm happy to see. High detail mini modulars with a spooky theme like a lego halloween village has a lot of appeal, and even though I don't really care about this one it looks good and I can definitely see certain releases, like lovecraft coded ones or a little shop of horrors plant store, being really awesome.

According to the company, the fresh building sets and streaming content will introduce children to a world of 'authentic, interesting and passionate characters.'

Some of the new characters, all of whom hang out together on Unity Street, include Paisley, who struggles with anxiety, 'especially in big crowds,' according to the brand.

Autumn is the 'friend' with the limb difference - she was born without an arm. The brand describes her as being 'happiest when she is on her own' and an 'avid nature lover' who 'deeply cares about the planet and animals.'

Liann, is a 'fun, outgoing and very creative' girl with ADHD. She is described as 'at time impulsive' and 'works harder to focus,' though she 'brings a unique perspective on many things.'

Jordin has Vitiligo, a rare skin disease that usually manifests during the second or third decade of life, that strips skin of its pigment resulting in colorless splotches across the body. She is described as a 'fast learner' works as a 'part-time assistant' for the town green grocer.

Fiona has Down Syndrome, a genetic disorder in which an individual has an extra chromosome resulting in a number of health and developmental complications.

Fiona works at the flower stall on Unity Street. She is described as being 'good at crafts and decorating, and knows all the flower species by name.'

Nova is a socially anxious gamer who has 'amassed more than 500k followers on her streaming channel,' but finds real-life interactions to be 'challenging.'

She is an avid engineer who built her disabled dog Pickle a wheelchair.

Zac is French-African and very social, while Olly is a fashionable Brit, who can sometimes be overbearing.

Leo just moved to Heartlake City. He is an athlete with Mexican heritage who 'prefers not to hurt someone's feelings,' which the brand explains means he has poor confrontation skills.

So my job gave me a £200 credit as a "you've been here too long" reward thing, but since I couldn't turn it into cash and most of the stores available to turn it into credit didn't appeal, in a fit of pique I turned it into a lego gift card.
I'm currently looking at getting either the Maersk dual fuel boat or the Model T. The first because big boat, the second because it looks neat and I kind of like the T.
Alternatively I could get the Concorde set since my mom got me the leonardo davinci flying machine a while back.

They've done studies on this and crippled kids almost universally choose not to play with the toys that represent crippled people. The only ones who choose the crippled toys are kids who've been bullied so hard that they think every kid who isn't crippled is their enemy.

Hell man they needed studies to prove something so fucking obvious? Like even perfectly abled kids usually don't want to play as themselves. They want to be someone with authority, power, or super human abilities. No kid is pretending to be just a regular kid. They're pretending to be super heroes, pirates, and princesses. Even the kids that just pretend to be normal people are at least pretending they're someone who can do stuff they can't do themselves like a cook or truck driver.

Jang was hilarious reacting live. He was trash talking all the adult models and then saw that bald guy. He went silent with his mouth open. And then quickly pretended he wasn’t disgusted. Corporations r”almost know what they are doing by using freaks as shields for criticism. Brand friendly influencers can’t complain or they’ll get cancelled. Problem is… that doesn’t equate to better advertising to the consumer. Buyers want to see normal attractive people using the product in advertising. The whole song and dance for ecelebs and cancel culture social media fizzled out years ago. Lego meanwhile was 5-10 years behind everyone else so it will probably be a few years before they course correct

A lego re-sale store near where my parents live is really nice. They do custom lego printing and even hide custom made lego shark teeth in the bulk bins. YOU can custom print your own Lego Bricks and they are now considered "official" and no longer bootleg rip-offs.

Lego making giant multi-hundred-dollar sculpture sets with no minifigs, too. so other companies who make those have literally no difference to the official Lego sets.

Lego is basically screaming at competitors on how to defeat them. how has nobody toppled the giant yet?

even as a "display piece" it's ridiculously huge.
nobody is going to want a basketball-sized pokeball on their shelf. it's much bigger than a "real" (heh) pokeball would be. it looks silly. Lego obviously added pieces until they hit the worth-the-three-hundred-dollars limit. only so they could charge $300 for it.

It's less than 2 months away and we haven't seen anything outside of the Patrick minifig, feels like Lego usually has sets up on the site marked as either as "Coming Soon" or already up for preorder for 2-3 months in advance. Incredible how amazing a simple, cohesive, low color count setup looks. Proof positive that the modern obsession with over detailing and 'correctly' sized cars doesn't always work.

On an unrelated note, tonight I am sorting through another Goodwill haul. Looks like this one has some vintage pieces.
>>
Can someone please test something on my behalf? I'm trying to see if the window pane (60602) in picrel can sit within the grill pieces without falling out from between the grill pieces

The assembly will be blocked on each end & there will be enough window panes to balance out (16 stud long assembly will hold 10 panes securely without gaps) so I'm more worried about the pane shifting left or right and falling out from within the grills

Thanks guys

I think this actually looks pretty nice from the front, but beyond that, the most interesting things are the ghost maid and butler. Getting tired of the facade "dollhouse" style buildings as well. Lego will probably never top that modular Haunted House they did in the Monster Fighters line years ago, will they?

This set also needed at least two more minifigures. As others have mentioned, the creator 3-in-1 had more and was a lot cheaper. Too bad that set doesn't really have much of any size to it. Sets like this scream out that Lego wants you to buy 2 or 3 copies and then build them into something way bigger.
>>
>>11843999
>>11844001
>>11844397

I like it's size, maybe literally one more stud wide in the back of the house would have been nice and another minifigure. Realistically I'm much more likely to get something like this than a fuck huge modular building with 3-4x the footprint. There's a lot of large lego sets over the years I've liked and considered but ultimately passed on just because of space considerations. Considering they seem to be doubling down on fuckhuge sets and useless statues I'm very glad to see a high detail minifig playscale set that's smaller, with a thinner facade but still includes interior.
>>
>>11844405
I'll still get it. I actually think it is probably even deeper than most people give it credit for. The top is at least 4 studs deep, and the bottom is 6 or so. Could be one or two deeper yeah, but I don't think it is bad. Plus, I think the more interesting thing is that this is the first set in a new line of Halloween/spoopy-style sets. So, that's got me more interested.

Probably not a day one pickup for me, but I will definitely get it eventually.

Lads, I've started something terrible. After I learned my aunt got me the pinball machine and managed to snag the black knight Sea Serpent GWP, I've dipped my toes into the Castle theme. I naively ordered some random knight parts to be their counterpart not knowing I made near carbon copies of the horse knight castle 3-in-1 set. So, that's gonna be what I buy next. I'm honestly surprised by the price, it's very low compared to what you'd get with LSW.

I'm so tired of giant sets with only a few Minifigs. argh! remember when the $20 sets had 3 Minifigs? c'mon, Lego! stop being so stingy with the Minifigs for crying out loud. especially with like, a non-IP set. use YOUR imagination. if you are "saving" like, a werewolf guy for a future set, then INCLUDE one in this haunted house, and figure out another one later. or simply figure out a different sort of character. maybe a groundskeeper? beekeeper? like, a plumber? handyman? Igor-style lackey? a child of some kind? freaking 3 Minifigs for $130?

Lego did, for a small window of time, include 30 Minifigs in sets. they CAN do it!

There should have been like a ghost cook, or, since there is a section with books, a ghost librarian or something. Grounds keeper would have been a good idea, too. Since this is the first set in a new line, I imagine they are saving some minifigure ideas and stuff for future sets as well.

Also, in this day and age, I wouldn't come close to calling this a "giant" set. $130 is peanuts in their eyes, but the set should have definitely at minimum had one or two more minifigures. Then again, we sit here with every new set and say it should have had more minifigures (which is true).

Lego is being stingy as FUCK with minifigures these days. The days of putting 30+ minifigures in a single set are long gone, even in those $500 sets like the Avengers Tower and Daily Bugle (and that was only a $350 set). The new Helicarrier at $400 only has 6 minifigures in it. The Black Pearl at almost $400 only had 8 minifigures in it. Even the new $1000 Death Star only had like 31 minifigures in it. At that price, it should have had at LEAST another 10 minifigures, but probably should have had twice as many in it. At the bare minimum, they should have doubled the amount of stormtroopers and gunners, and generic troops in it.
>>
>>11844448
The Horse Knight castle is a good starting point, but I wasn't in love with it. It is fine enough, and some of the minifigures are quite nice like the King and the Serpent Knight. I ended up eventually just taking mine apart and using the pieces for MOCs.

If you're willing to buy multiples of them, there are some great rebrickables using two or three copies of the Horse Knight castle, though.
>>
>>11844580
I was thinking of being cheeky and making it Zelda themed. When the idea clicked it was just so obvious, same colour of roof and all. I already have OoT the final battle. I can put that hylian shield on the gate of the castle, and make a kingly post MM OoT Link to go alongside a queen Zelda. It'll be great. If I wanna go all the way I can order a couple hylian shields and other random looking cheap shields. I can hide the horse emblems with breastplates.

how can it not be clear that the quantity of Minifigs affects set sales? it's a clear fact that I, personally, have passed on MANY sets due to my disappointment with minifigure spread. that is a known fact, as I am in control of it. (for example, I LOVED the Netflix One Piece show, yet have not bought a single set due to the poor choices of minifigure assortment. if Lego would have put Luffy WEARING the hat in the Buggy Clown set, I would have spent the $50, but nope and nope)

if I'm doing it, other people must be, too... right?

Okay so I did some research and to make the most disabled of all disabled minifigs you would need the following
>Dog harness part 70922
>Compatible dog 69962pb01
>Vitiligo head part 3626pb3169
>Hair piece with Cochlear implant part 103748pb01
>Wheelchair part 80440c01
>Torso with congenital arm defect part 973pb5922c01
>Prosthetic legs 970d56
With these parts you can create a triplegic deaf blind person with Vitiligo! And it can be yours for the low price of $15.09 + shipping and handling. (Yes I parted it out on brinklink just to see how expensive this would be.)

I like the set, and the concept of the theme in general, but that price is dog water, especially with that 3-in-1 haunted house at every Walmart in the country for $80.
>>
>>11845168
I mean, the creator 3-in-1 has literally half the pieces as this one, and this one is only $30 more. So many people swear by price per pieces still and the 3-in-1 was $90 for 736 pieces, and just looks tiny too.
>>
>>11845078
The arms look really awkward because it looks like he has long sleeves. I would say they should use dual molded arms like Homer Simpson, but the legs still look weird because they cannot fully replicate Spongebob's thin legs. >>
>>11845412
>these could have been good as 3 separate sets,
I truly wonder if Lego has data based on people who pass on sets like this. for example I absolutely WOULD LOVE to get a Star Trek set, but not at $400. I would like to get Spongebob's house, but not with the whole street for $250. I would have spent a lot of money to get a Mihawk from the Netflix One Piece. but not $330. if he was in an $80 set, I would have gotten it. a lot of sets I would get if they included a couple more figures. Lego is not offering enough "value" for ME (muh-piece-count is not the only "value" to calculate)

it seems to me like a complicated metric to get, (loss of sales?) and obviously they are selling $X00 sets just fine without my chipping in, so ultimately I don't matter to Lego

Piece Count is a shit metric for the price of a set. There is no way you can convince me a set made up of 1000 pieces where half the part count is 1x1 tile pieces is any way as worth while as a 200 piece set where each part have a function outside the set it exists in.
>>
>>11845180
its on the size of the elements, count be damned. something like the recently retired red dragon's tale is a good example, high piece count and tons of big pieces to quickly build up the terrain and buildings, then 1200 or so parts for the brick built monsters. most of the small pieces are details to stick on those, not like eg. Halloween Town's fence/gate being made entirely of 2x1s and 1x1 plates. Yeah it looks really good, its like 350 pieces into something barely 3" tall.
>>
>>11845436
I think Lego has (correctly) assessed that, when it comes to these more standalone themes, customers are just looking for a way to show off “X but Lego”. So Lego needs to limit customers’ options or they’ll go for the cheaper option every time.
Using SpongeBob as an example, Lego is probably banking on nostalgic millennials buying the set. They could make multiple sets (a big ticket one like Conch Street then a more affordable offering like the Chum Bucket), but customers that just want a way to display “SpongeBob but Lego” would only buy the cheaper set. By releasing one higher priced offering they’re forcing customers who want the IP to buy at that price point.
>>

Why didnt they just build the dogs new legs instead of that?

>>
>>11845544

>>
>>11845535
People do take price per piece too seriously, but I do think it is one (small) metric to keep in mind.

That said, your examples are irrelevant since I was specifically talking about the Creator 3-in-1 haunted house vs. this new one. And you can us your eyeballs to see that this new one not only looks bigger, but also more detailed. The creator looks like an undetailed green wall. The new one not only looks bigger but is way more visually interesting. On top of that, Lego used pretty deceptive marketing, since the main marketing image has the gate on a lower plane in front of the house and all the minifigures cluttered around it to make it to sort of make it look bigger than it really is.

right. this is 100% correct.
if it's your only option (giant pokeball! you want those minfigs, right?! $300, chump!) you have no choice but to spend dat cash cash money

but...
like I said, there's no way for Lego to know that I did not get [that particular] set, but would have, had they been smaller and less expensive, or included a few more figures (I'm looking at you, Animal Crossing) or some other factor.

my non-spending (but willingness TO spend) can't be calculated by Lego, can it? it's like a paradox. I can't refuse to buy Star Trek Lego, and expect Lego to make me a less expensive set (with good enough characters) for Star Trek somehow.

Yeah, I'm definitely getting the newer black falcon fortress soon. But I just figured since I ordered 4 horse knights, it's a good idea to start with the horse knight castle. I want to start off with smaller purchases on the side to army build black knights as well, which isn't exactly cheap with the knights and their bardings. All that said I'm better buying the black falcon 3-in-1 sooner rather than later. This year, for sure. Just not exactly swimming in riches so I have to pace myself.

spongebob minifig looks way too overdesigned, why are his shoes brown??
cool to see the detail of patricks furniture being made of sand and how him standing on the inside rim of the rock while its open mimics the old gags they used to do of him peeling off the bottom of the rock when it opened and crashing down into his furniture, desu as a whole i guess its preferable that the set is loaded with early sb references (took me awhile to get that picrel is Penny, Chip, and Used Napkin lol), as opposed to nu-bob

Svengoolie is a popular TV series where the host plays an old horror movie every Saturday night. they talk about it before the commercial breaks, why it was important or cool or whatever. little comedy bits and a song. like a history-show but you get to watch the whole movie. and they do re-mastered HD quality versions. they never show a bad movie because they can pick whatever they want, so even if it's a lame movie, it's still neat in another way (famous actor, first-in-genre, or something else...)

because of Svengoolie, tons of normies have been re-exposed to the old B&W classics, Universal Studios made a whole theme park land! while those movies are good on their own, I really think Svengoolie's show has done a lot to make them "popular" again
