They're staples in the way bread and rice are staples.
They aren't the big and fancy "look at me! Look at me!" Guys, but it's nice to know they exist and having them around is a net positive.
>>
>>11884299
I don't disagree but calling them staples of the Marvel Universe is kinda silly when they're not even B tier. They're good characters but they're hardly staples imo.

I would call them staples, but not stars. But that's just me.

In my opinion, Ang Lee’s take on The Incredible Hulk deserves a new action figure. Though, that’s kind of a pipe dream, due to it being Pre-MCU, and angleehulkfags aren’t exactly known for being mindless consumers.
>>

I think the bigger issue is it's co-owned by a studio Marvel isn't friendly with, IE Universal.

Moon Girl is like the one hero I actively do not want in the MCU.

Her entire thing is being a kid genius superhero with a best friend who's a dinosaur. The instant you make her live action all the appeal and fun of the premise is lost.

Add her to Tokon, add her to Rivals, add her to fucking Spiderverse, but for the love of God do not make a live action version.

>>
>>11884530
>Last thread I said MCU.
It's all the MCU now, bitch
Especially Spider-Man
>>
>>11884535
No? MCU can't use Spider-Man or Spider-Man characters with out paying Sony a fat paycheck. So
>No Cloak or Dagger
>No Silver Sable
>Kingpin can't be in the MCU movies, but tv shows are fine
>No Morbius
>No Spider-Woman
>No Ben Riley Scarlet Spider
MCU also can't use Hulk without permission from Universal. So no Solo Hulk movies. This is why he's been popping up in unrelated films.
>>
>>11884543
To further this, Kingpin's actor even stated 'Using the Kingpin character is expensive, since he was a Spider-Man villain first'
>>
>>11884543
>MCU can't use Spider-Man or Spider-Man characters with out paying Sony a fat paycheck.
Which they are willing to do.
They could also just put Jared Leto's Morbius into an MCU movie if they wanted to, Sony would let them and Disney would pay for it.
>MCU also can't use Hulk without permission from Universal.
That's also completely different, they can use Hulk and any Hulk characters they want in any way they want, they just specifically can't a movie with Hulk in the title, but they could make a She-Hulk movie, because that would be a different trademark. They could also make a Red-Hulk movie, they could also make a Skaar: Son of Hulk movie.
They just can't specifically call a movie "The Hulk" or "The Incredible Hulk" or any other title that Bruce Banner, the Hulk, has used in comics because Universal has the rights to just his trademark or whatever, but not even him as a character unlike Sony with Spider-Man, with universal it's literally just the title and derivations of that title, but not even to the extent that it applies to offshoot characters.
>>
BUT, if we include the B-Listers from Spider-Man and if Sony's willing to play ball with Disney, then the list is a bit bigger:
>Cloak and Dagger, Rocket Racer, Silver Sable, Black Cat, Tigra, Nova from the Nova Corps
And then some top tier C-Listers like:
>Ka-Zar, Squirrel Girl, Blue Marvel,
Three Spider-Women were in that HORRIBLE Madam Web movie, I think?

You're letting yourself get scammed. You should've just declined to buy if the price was disgusting to you. Just a pre-order from what I can tell. I will also be greabbing a set myself. I've been wanting Spiral and the new Gamerverse Iron Man has definitely sold me on being an upgrade from the single release Modular Armor.

>>11885254
I thought about this but just didn't think he was worth the upgrade over the original release that I got years ago. The faces certainly look better, and I'm sure the new suit body is better, but he just sits in the chair all the time so what's it matter? I dunno, I just couldn't bring myself to update mine. What are your thoughts? Was he worth the upgrade to you?

That's a pretty ableist attitude anon. I feel you though in all honesty. Unless you have an astral plane display or something, you're not gonna be putting Chuck in any elaborate poses. I like the new one better overall, but the old release is still fine. I also like that the new one sits lower to the ground, looks a lot better with other figures. No cripple blanket like the old one though, so he looks substantially less comfy.
>>
>>11885361
Ok fine, to be fair, he does sometimes get knocked out of the chair and lays on the ground, but I don't think I've ever used him to just stand around lol.

Thanks. Whilst it may not be particularly accurate, I just like muscly dormammu over the baggy clothing and the yellow flame head seems more fitting.
That old BAF looked nice and so did the vishanti box one. Sadly they were before my time collection.
>>
>>11885532
Yeah I had to look it up out of curiousity and he actually wore baggier clothes more often in the classic comics, it seems. But I def get having a preference, muscular has more “impact”. In the 70s-90s, most action figures gave the characters a ripped muscularity just for that “cool toy” effect. Even Luke had ripped quads in the Power of the Force figure line lol.

Prices have increased at a commensorate rate with inflation, the cost hasn’t changed at all. The value of a dollar is just lower. Wages have increased as well, depends on the job though.
>>
>>11886503
A $100-$200 a month for your hobbies/fun is hardly that outlandish or out of the norm. It's more disturbing how you guys complain about like $30. Inflation has turned that into nothing.

Jesus Christ /toy/ really is this whiniest, pickiest board on this site isn't it? I don't know what you guys expect out of the world. You guys want the perfect toy that has extreme articulation, which warrents a higher part count, elaborate paint jobs done with the most premium of paints, and every accessory included under the sun, not just staple weapons and gear, but random one off items that the character only held for like a single comic page. And you want all this for like $8 like it was back in 1994. That's unrealistic. I am actually convinced that nothing will make you guys happy and your sole reason for existing is to whine about action figures no one is forcing you to buy. Anyway, thanks for reading my blog.

You all are so frustrating.
>>
>>11887004
I'll agree that /toy/ is full of whiny bitches who are never satisfied. However, I'd say that most people here are alright with paying 25-35 bucks for a figure that has proper articulation, a thought-through design, and decent accessories.

The main reason is that companies like Jada (Blokees as well but those don't necessarily count) are already giving people a good bang for their buck.
Now compare this to companies like Hasbro who are trying to squeeze as much money possible by not including the necessary accessories and constantly shifting their bucks from wave to wave. OR to companies like McFarlane who are completely idiotic by fucking up basic articulation on every single figure as well as not even including a single accessory for some figures.

I for one am very happy with my Storm Arena figures for example or even with my CT Batman. Most ML are fine as well. Hell, I am even content with the McFarlanes that I bought (only the core JL + Dr Fate) but let's not act like there ain't a ton of flaws with most companies out there, especially McFarlane, Hasbro, and Super7
>>
>>11887011
I have a bunch of Jada figs at this point and while they're nice, they're really not that much nicer than a contemporary Hasbro figure. I'd say they're on par with most GI Joes I own as well as Marvel Legends with more modern articulation schemes. Sure MLs reuse bodies, some of which are a tad outdated at this point comparatively, but at the same time they also produce what, 3x? 4x? as many figures as Jada does in a years time. Jada makes fine toys, I just got Fred and Barney and love them, but I really don't put them as really better than Hasbro, a slight step up at best really.

As for Blokees, I don't like their human characters, too stylized for my taste, their robots look good though. Don't really have anything else to say about them other than they're model kits so I'd agree that they're their own thing.

As for CT/Mess, I can't so much count them as much either since they're able to get away with being so cheap because they're outright reusing and retooling molds that other companies have already done, they're unlicensed and don't have to pay licensing fees, and tbqh they don't have the best QC for $40 figures. When they were originally $20ish, yeah, they're fine for what they cost, but now Mess toys stuff is closer to the $40ish range and while their QC is a bit better, it's still lacking imo. I'm sure if other companies like Hasbro and Bandai just stole molds Mafex and Revoltech spent the time and money developing, while also not having to pay Disney for the rights to use the Marvel IP, their figures would be cheaper too.

In that same breath, I can't defend McFarlane though, holy shit that company is terrible, so glad I don't collect his crap.
>>
>>11887021
Storm Arena > Gi Joe > Jada > marvel legends

Both 4 are pretty good, but there is actual competition in the 25-30usd range now. You cant keep churning out shit and expect not to be called, see McFarlane. That being said most modern Marvel legends are great.
>>
>>11887021
I can't speak on GI Joe because those were never my type of thing (I did however see a couple of figures with TONS of accessories) but people have often named that line as an example of what ML releases should look like. That in itself should also be the main reason why people should hate on Hasbro more openly. Having one line with great accessories and the other that demands a surcharge for more accessories is scummy behaviour.

As for Jada, they honestly come off as what 25-30 buck figures should always be - modern articulation, decent set of accessories, and a decent paintjob. It doesn't always have to be something extravagant for the price level but with Jada, at least you can see that they're trying to get better with every single line, sometimes even inbetween waves.

Blokees aren't my thing but the other day, I found the NGE line and holy shit, do those EVAs look amazing

Agreed on your comments about CT, Mess etc., they're inherently bound to be cheaper because they're copycats. I'm happy that my Bats also wound up having no QC issues while costing me only 16 Eurobucks. Mess demanding 40 bucks is crazy though. Even CT's Gambit and Superman go for around 30ish bucks at the moment

>I can't defend McFarlane though, holy shit that company is terrible, so glad I don't collect his crap.
I defended them at the very start because I thought they'd learn with time. Right now, I wish they would legit go bankrupt for alle the shitty things they've done
>>
>>11887023
>That being said most modern Marvel legends are great
This is what's baffling to me. Most stuff that's modern is on par with Jada and Storm's cheaper options imo. Look at the Born Again figures, or the new Dark Avengers Hawkeye those are some fantastic action figures. But at the same time, the reason Hasbro reuses those older molds is so we can get more niche characters, honestly I'm shocked Dark Hawkeye got a new mold but holy shit it works well for an archer character, so maybe that's what they made it for, like Crossing Hawkeye will get a retool of it or something. But as for other niche characters, we'd never get them without reuse. And honestly, I'm ok with that. Not every figure NEEDS to be the definitive toy, sometimes what already exists is good enough. But /toy/ likes to have it's cake and eat it too.
>>
>>11887026
>Having one line with great accessories and the other that demands a surcharge for more accessories is scummy behaviour.
To be fair, Hasbro outright owns GI Joe and has to pay Disney a premium to use the Marvel IP. Plus, and I don't know this for sure, but it only seems this way since Joes come in smaller waves of like four or five whereas MLs come in waves of 6 or more, but MLs seem to produce a higher number of figs per year than Joes do, so that would also account for it. Also, Joes has about the same level of reuse as MLs do, they're just newer engineered figures since the line is newer.
>>
Also, I will add that the current cost of MLs is inline with what they were ten years ago when you account for inflation. So the actual cost is the same, the dollar is just weaker than it was a decade ago.

That's still my favorite live action Hulk. CGI quality aside, i think he has the best design. Perfect shade of green and appropriately exaggerated and cartoony proportions
>>
>>11887119
I think I only ever saw that movie twice as a kid, but I played the PS2 game all the fucking time and that was really good, had a bunch of villains, etc.
It got beat by Ultimate Destruction a few years later because that was open world, but the Hulk movie game was still pretty good
>>
>>11887119
That movie is good man, YES some of the editing is unintentionally funny, but if you get past that you still get a good story and the most comic book accurate Hulk ever.
>>
>>11887105
I feel better about preordering him now. Definitel staying hunched over though. those ab sculpting still suck ass compared to the other X97 figs.

>>11887059
Not when you factor in less accessories and no BAF pieces. We're getting less now per figure for the same price 10 years ago.

The Phantom Rider figure makes for SUCH a great Moon Knight custom, the face is SO much better than the weird lumpy face MK comes with. Better proportions and pinless joints, too. Just need to paint his chest symbol and get a belt.
>>
>>11887249
>Less accessories
This is bullshit. Plenty of figures a decade ago only came with one pair of hands or just an alt head and some guns. And the BaF part, unless you were collecting the whole wave, doesn't fucking matter.
>>
>>11887073
Shit dude. Sorry to hear that. I had the same happen to me removing the orange one from the 2pack mask. They were an absolute bitch to remove and I almost gave up at one point.

Is Marvel Select Ultimate Hulk still worth getting, or should I wait for Hasbro to make a Marvel Legends (even though Ultimatum defiled the legacy of Ultimate Marvel)?
>>
>>11887346
my advice would be not buy the 25 year old figure that was already obsolete when it came out
>>
>>11886333
Both those fucking dick, especially since the real Squadron Sinister Knight hawk and Speed Demon are cheap to get.
>>
So just got laid off and really have a situation where I want to get one more ML purchase out of me before I have to tighten the belt. Don't know if I want to get Warbird Carol, White Queen, Retro Mystique, or splurge on a 20th Anniversary Cap, the $65 Mojoverse set on Amazon, Retro Card Apocalypse. Or if I should hold off in case Ollie's gets some good stuff in cheap like X-Men Retro/97 stuff or some of the more recent box sets for Xmas.
>>
>>11887372
Outside Retro Spiderman and Secret Wars wave One, what else can Ollie's get?

All the box sets have been online only

X-Men 97 consistently sells out

The last round of Retro card X-Men or regular comic wave shit has been either online only or Target exclusive and in the case of the later, also sold out ASAP.

Even the Deadpool/Wolverine waves have sold out

No. I have this. It's basically statue. Just buy any grey Hulk you like. Be it ML or some notHulk body from chinks.
There's thing with Ultimate Hulk is that he's really big. Currently there's only Immortal Hulk from Select who can be considered good Ultimate Hulk base. But he's green. And with pins. And has only one head.

(No Dr Druid for the Stern/Simonson era, no Living Lightning or Firebird for West Coast Avengers, no Death cry or Harras era Giant Man for 90s era Avengers, no Silver claw or Triathlon for Busiek Avengers)

As for completed teams, we have ANAD X-Men, PAD Xfactor, Excalibur, Secret Wars II era Avengers, Xfactor #2 era OG Xfactor, Sinister Six, Freedom Force/BOEM2, classic era BOEM, OG Xforce, Remender Xforce, FF, and Inhumans

>>

90s-early 00s Spider-Man for sure. All the weird variants and toy gimmicks were amazing as a kid.
>>

Spider-Man TAS was my main Marvel line as a kid. I actually never really had many Marvel figs, just a few Spider-Men and a handful of his bad guys. And a random Colossus my aunt got me that I didn't know who he was until I was older. I was more of a Batman and Star Wars kid. Funny enough though my current Marvel collection greatly outnumbers anything else I collect.

I can't remember the name but there was this whole subline where you would put string on two things and zipline weird versions of Spiderman on them. And Carnage had a helicopter made of bat wings or something. That and the web splashes subline had so much cool silly shit. I got the Spidey/Reed Future Foundation 2 pack in early. Haven't opened it yet. Waiting for the 2nd 2 pack that shows up on Wednesday. I'm pretty excited for this, if only to update the heads for my shelf Sue and Reed to something with face printing. The new Sue heads look really good imo.
