Yeah it's kinda garbage but it's the only perfect movie ever made and he can do the iconic pose. Really hyped for the Belit and Conan figures from Boss Fight that are supposed to ship soonish. McFarlane's old Belit was pretty fun to repaint.
Also hyped for Monolith's new Conan kickstarter with two new expansions. I've been all in for every campaign since their first one about a decade ago and still haven't painted half the minis. But I always say yes to more Conan and have the rest of my life to paint them.
I grew up reading Conan books and comics and watching the movie on repeat with my dad. He-Man is some weird effeminate knock-off Mattel made because they were scared of making figures for the Arnie movie, right?
I guess if you're like 50 and grew up with it then it's cool, but if you don't have any sort of nostalgic attachment to Masters of the Universe then it's pretty uhhhh flamboyant and the bright neon colors are pretty like a Lisa Frank painting. Which is cool. Super cool. And manly.

That was the rumour because Mattel were approached to do a toyline, but realised that the content of the movie wasn't suitable for a children's toyline.
Really He-Man was made because the higher ups at Mattel were still kicking themselves for saying no to picking up the license for Star Wars when they had the opportunity, so really MOTU is more a rip-off of Star Wars, the fact that there is such a strong Sword and Sorcery element is because Roger Sweet thought that stuff was cool.
The "effeminate" aspect was entirely because the cartoon was done by Filmation who turned everything into a comedy.
On a personal note, I kind of hate the Filmation cartoon for what it turned MOTU into, if you read the original mini-comics they are way darker and more interesting, Prince Adam is a Filmation original idea and kinda ruins the character.

Conan's women die and he has different arcs and phases in his life as he matures, there are actual stakes and lessons learned from the scars knitting his body.

Filmation He-Man is this, but other comic iterations have largely moved away from this, even if they continue to use elements from the Filmation lore. The 2021 CGI series is easily the best He-Man thing since the original mini-comics. Well anyway. I just finished adding leaves to my first couple squads of Waffen SS for a Phantom Lady miniatures game. I printed about 30 more but they'll just be regular Wermacht. There's a sniper team, a machinegun team, and instead of full team of panzergrenadiers there's just one guy dual wielding potato mashers with two panzerfausts strapped to his back.
I also painted a 101st Airborne paratrooper with a requisitioned MG42 to help Phantom Lady fight Nazis.
I finally have enough bad guys to play a full game this weekend, and only a couple more squads until I can play a full game of Bolt Action or Konflikt 47.

Every day I'm checking McFarlane's site and watching preorders become available. Catwoman and Doomsday might ship by the end of the week.

Because it's DC, and outside of imports or stuff aimed at small children it's all there is.
Also for all the jokes about how many Batman figures Todd makes, the Multiverse line has been extremely diverse in character selections, it also helped that there was a lot of unique sculpting for the figures as opposed to when Mattel last had the license and put every single figure on the same three base bodies.
I think if McFarlane hadn't hobbled the line by making it 7 inch it would probably have done much better. I initially stayed clear of the line because it wouldn't mix with any of my existing DC figures, but it's hard to deny that there are some genuinely great figures, easily the best Christopher Reeve Superman since the Hot Toys, he's the only one that has done a Brandon Routh Superman since the original movie tie-in line. I just wish he'd done a George Reeves and Dean Cain Superman as well.

Don't worry, you're not the only one. I've tried numerous times over the years to get into the line and every single time I get a figure from Todd, I'm always met with some level of frustration or annoyance. If it isn't the weird proportions or the articulation scheme getting in the way of what should be simple movement, it's stuff like the the ratchets in the joints settling either too far forward or too far back to have a figure properly stand. So I don't get it, I really don't. Some of his big figs aren't outright terrible, but honestly, most of his stuff is pretty bad.

The Action Comics reprint with the shiny S might end up being my Dean Cain. There are a couple headaculpts out there, but I'm hoping someday someone realizes how much money a Lois & Clark pack would make.

Didn't have any dc figures before todd besides the mafex Batman and was instantly put off by how bad the scale and proportions were. Came back for the titans wave and only get the ones I like and limit doubles to being each a different outfit for a specific team, JLU, Lego, and B B&B batmen for example. But fuck me you gotta customize each one and the women only have 2 body styles; wonder woman and black cat. Teri Hatcher is easily the best Lois Lane. I fortunately don't see a lot of that. Not that I don't know it exists, I just filter out any "influencer" that either adheres to or promotes keeping toys in boxes. I'll keep a backing card if the art is nice, but I genuinely hate the mentality of toys being catered to or treated as exclusively collector items. Sure it means that companies are innovating with articulation or sculpt or face-printing which is kinda nice, but it's also why toys cost 5 to 10 times more than what they used to regardless of inflation or how much actual fucking plastic is in the box. I saw a god damn Vintage Series Star Wars figure going for more than the Black Series figures on the peg above it in a store the other day because it was "deluxe."
The whole industry and far too many collectors take toys too seriously these days, and there is way too much predatory shit from the companies making them.

Ever since I saw the Imaginext Doomsday set I've wanted a Doomsday big enough for Superman to ride into battle like a tamed beast he lets hang out in the Fortress of Solitude. I might pick up a couple more of the old Kryptonian battlesuits as Doomsday killer armor for the Fortress bots to keep him from getting rowdy while Superman's busy.

Yeah it's one of my favorite scenes in the entire series. Jack stops blasting Grundy and shows him compassion, letting him stay with Ted and Starman Michael. Grundy and Michael actually become best bros and hang out together, and Grundy getting hurt is what triggers Michael into remembering how to use his powers.
Grundy's always been a big retard the League just pummels, something that distracts Superman for a couple seconds so the rest of the team can square off with dipshits like Copperhead and Killer Frost for a couple seconds until Superman decides he's tired of fucking around with Grundy and saves the day for everyone. Jack finds another solution that doesn't involve blowing things up, he just tries talking to Grundy like a normal person.

It's one of the coolest things about Jack, his greatest strength isn't the cosmic staff, it's his heart and sincerity. The issue where he meets Superman is really cool. Starman seems like an edgy superhero with the goggles and tattoos but under that he's all about family and trying to do the right thing.

I had a whole bunch as a kid, Infrared Batman, Mech-Wing Batman, the Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson figures you could turn into Batman and Robin, the Ninja Batman and Robin (which for some reason I always used as villainous dopplegangers), bunch of the vehicles too. I still have them all in storage right now, but a few years back I see about picking up the screen-accurate figures, I got Joker, Harley, a Robin, the Batmobile which replaced the incomplete one I had from childhood (a shithead kid I knew stole the inner jet thing), and of course Combat Belt Batman.
I keep meaning to buy some custom capes for Batman and Robin, hence Robin's lack of cloth here.

Blog time. Opening this 2 pack is the closest I felt to those halcyon days of McFarlane's early DC output, since I never got the original Batman Who Keks and Merciless. Exploring how totally unknown molds with crazy sculpted designs articulated and looking at the little sculpted details--that was the feeling of the early days of the line. Every figure was like a new discovery and quite different from other figures. There was something earnest about the line then even if it was clumsily engineered and had problems. It was like somewhat incompetent artists with little engineering experience giving their best effort.

Didn't hurt that the 2 pack was on sale for mid-$40s, down from the obscene $80 MSRP, so closer to the old prices too.

Now though the typical release just doesn't have that old feel due to endless waves of reuse and the designs chosen. There's nothing really new to discover and the molds usually lack many unique sculpted details. Plus the sculpted details that are present often don't work for the character due to inappropriate reuse from a different figure.
