the owner of the mall didn't want ninja there because he thought the sight of nerds and shit would be an eyesore to the dead mall. It's weird bc they're opening up a round 1 arcade in there too so it would've been a feedfback loop of spending for that place.

Some similar shit happened with the riverside location, I think the frank and sons owners bullied the city into kicking them out of the norhtern ninja exchange that was planned last year

I think there's only a few places that are actually bad. everything else is on par with the rest of the US where it's relatively boring.
I think San Diego has gotten worse though. Every year i go there and the homeless camps have gotten bigger and more spread out.

I enjoyed the nightlife when I was younger. Especially when the fleet is in, if you like to meet up and hang out with strangers or just enjoy people watching, that was fun. But parking (and tickets, towing and all that other bullshit) has become a nightmare.
Food is still great but also has gotten absurdly expensive to eat out. Last fall, to visit a friend who flew in for a convention, the one night we went out for thai food, it was $100+ for two people and all we had was two beers each. When we were both in school, we would regularly have thai and our own beers for 1/5th that.
I'm not even talking something like homeless. It's just a hell hole
The gaslamp by where comic con is used to be fun to visit now you can't park it's crowded it's annoying and there's nothing worthwhile to do and all the food is overpriced garbage and the bars are awful tourist traps with watered down drinks
