Using the same setpieces here (ancient Egypt, male protagonist, sexy female pharao reborn), I'd then first look at how the story should feel. In this case I'd be thinking dommy mommy pharao, and that the story might work best from her perspective, waking up to the protagonist bursting in, he does something (you say he kills an apophis, I say "that's a detail I can figure out later") that makes her say that she wants to keep him. Keeping in mind how the story would go to other pyramids afterwards, I'd figure the pharao would be informing the guy of the pyramids of her rivals. After all if "her man" adds them to his harem, she proves herself superior cause she's his first! Take that you dusty rival hags! As for an end goal? Looks like your classic collect-a-thon to me. And I'd rely on figuring out what sort of crazyness a full harem of ancient, magically powerful, sexy pharaos could achieve together along the way. It's quite a ways till you'd have gathered them all anyway. Off-hand I'd say it could be something like ressurecting all their servants and maybe even their citizens, completely pulling the ancient glory into the modern day and then rule the land (or maybe even the world) as the new god-pharao.The only reason I ever care about any story I write is that there's a story there, begging (or sometimes demanding) to be told. The story itself is my motivation.
>>77741773See that's the thing- it's about being begged to be told. That's where I think the theme comes in. It's not so much that it has to be unique or original, as it does have to be compelling. The collect-a-thon angle is a fun perspective to have I think that's useful. But I was also thinking of setting this in a backdrop of a medieval caliphate with it's own set of thing gong on. And while turning the story into a grand-strategy campaign could be fun, I think it's over-ambitious for the kind of story I'd like to write. Though maybe I can go a 'secret society of old-god worshippers' or something. But also a similarly important dynamic is character relations. I do think that most stories rely too much on a 'will they won't they' dynamic to create tension, but at the same time it's a bit artificial to have two characters meet up and be fully compatible. There needs to be some sort of undercurrent of tension where characters figure out where they stand with one another. Though you know- saying this, I could imagine this maybe as a bit of an adventure of the week. Like, the MC, Pharoah, little sister (as a supporting character) are sort of thrown into a conspiratorial save-the-world plot, while the MC is annoyed everything is above his paygrade, but him and the little sister are going along with it on the promise of a payday (their original motivation for excavating a Pyramid). I was initially thinking their first pyramid would act as a home-base, but that wouldn't give them much motivation to travel. So perhaps their rewards are 'unlocked' by journeying about- rather than them initially hitting the jackpot they thought they did (actually something to work into this- their expected royal treasures were actually stolen by grave-robbers centuries ago- which is true in real life ancient egypt). Thinking on this, a sort of shonen, or power rangers angle might work better for a lot of these things (as a sort of background motif).
