You'd have to add even more complexity on top of what's already there to give it more variety or you'd have to come up with some other gimmick to keep it interesting. Not sure what that'd be, though. First thing that comes to mind is procedurally generating a personality for the partner that generates appropriate dialogue and affects how the scene plays out, especially on repeat encounters, but that'd fall afoul of much the same kinds of problems of repetitiveness in the long run.Unfortunately, I think the best engine for creating this sort of game is the human brain. It'll take AI a long time to be able to match the ease of flexibility of your own imagination. The only downside is that you're the only person who can play the game on your proprietary wetware and it eats a lot of processing power.
