>>83220434Carol to me, similar to Kris, reads as someone desperately trying to fix/atone for some nebulous event/series of events, which culminated in Dess's disappearance.We know that before Dess went missing, Carol was your average, if maybe slightly over-bearing parent who had great expectations for both of her daughters, though its implied as Dess got older, she simply wanted to do her own thing, which of course led to conflict between the two.Despite this, Carol, deep down at least, is still a loving mother, and has spent a considerable amount of time searching and researching what happened to her daughter.Given Kris's direct involvement in the events that are happening, and his seeming guilt over what happened, it's safe to say he was there when Dess disappeared, was traumatized very badly, to the point he needed therapy just to function properly.From this, Carol and Asgore seemed to have parsed something truly supernatural occurred, though I want to point out Carol has an apparent much deeper grasp on what happened due to likely paying for and overseeing Kris's therapy sessions, while Asgore merely has a reduced/fragmented understanding due to likely relying on only the first police reports he wrote himself.Both of them have likely attacked the mystery of what happened from different points of view/angles, though why Carol insists on keeping him in the dark, despite clearly having found evidence to show Asgore likely wasn't crazy in his investigations and what he found remains to be seen.Overall, too much speculation and not enough hard evidence at this point to make any solid conclusions, but I want to point out she probably doesn't want to end the world on purpose, because what's the point in saving your daughter only to doom the entire world you live in?

>>83221637I was thinking about this just before, in chapter 4, Asgore goes into the Master Bedroom.the LOCKED Master Bedroom, while Carol isn't even at the house, and, in that scene, he is looking right at the pinboard in that bedroom, it could be that what's on those boards doesn't actually relate to the disappearance anymore, Asgore has a BlackShard, correct? this might not be a sign that he FOUGHT the Knight, he, and Carol might actually be ideologically aligned with the Knight. the BlackShard then becomes a sign of trust.and given the nature of the energy the BlackShard has, and what it does extreme damage to, it raises the question, 'why would the Knight summon something it seems so opposed to that it carries a weapon tailor-made to KILLING them?'I believe it's possible that Carol, Asgore and The Knight are operating in opposition to the Prophecy itself, and they may be revealed not to actually be antagonists, but threats to the Prophecy, which in turn labels them as the threats, the antagonists.what if Carol and Asgore know that Kris and Noelle are who the prophecy has selected as the chosen heroes, what if they know what the prophecy's ending is, what if they're acting to prevent whatever that is from happening to the children they love so dearly?

>>83221794I don't think Asgore fought the Knight to be honest.It's heavily implied Asgore found the shadow crystal while looking in the Shelter for Dess, or wherever it was she disappeared at, though it could have also been given to him just prior to the start of the story like so many of the other bosses we face(Jevil, Spamton, etc).Though that raises the question, if Asgore found the shadow crystal all those years ago just after Dess disappeared, then that raises the question of who the Knight REALLY is, because common consensus at the moment is that the Knight is likely Dess after being lost/distorted by deep darkness for several years, but that makes no sense then, because to get shadow crystals you need the Knight and if the Knight wasn't even formed yet, then how did Asgore get a shadow crystal? It's a classic chicken and egg problem at work.I also want to point out that if Asgore had the shadow crystal for years prior to the start of the story, that might explain his strange behavior, much like how receiving shadow crystals drove the other bosses to near-madness which led to his divorce from Toriel.

>>83222664actually, the Black Shard is unique from Shadow Crystals, chapter 3 sets this up.I believe that the Shadow Crystals are crystallizations of Dess' grief, forming in response to meeting figures who are so intrinsically linked to, or in chapter 3's case, literally are, the people she loved and lost.Chapter 1 links to denial, Jevil, and her link to Jevil is hinted at through Asriel's assosciation with Seam in Chapter 4, suggesting Jevil and Seam may even have been Asriel and Dess' version of King and Queen when they were younger, Asriel's grief is flavored in Denial, this is shown through his rejection of the idea that Dess is missing, his rejection of throwing things away linked to her, he won't even return a book he borrowed because she might come back tomorrow and really want to draw a dragon.Chapter 2 is flavored in Bargaining, Spamton and Noelle, Noelle's room at Queen's mansion shows us the flavor of Noelle's gried, the calender with every day being the 25th, and every month being the 12th, not wishing every day was Christmas, she searched for December Holiday at least once a day, desperately trying to find signs of her existence.Chapter 3 is flavored in Anger, specifically in self-loathing, assignment of blame and lashing out at the self, and others, the most mysterious connections exist in this chapter, as the intended Shadow Crystal holder was Ramb... but the Knight met Kris before she could give him that crystal... and the tears were shed for the true recipient instead, that's what that animation was before the fight.Chapter 4 is flavored in Acceptance, Gerson is the link, to 'accepting his death', and to Rudy, who has resigned himself to his fate, perhaps believing he'll finally see his daughter again on the other side, a comforting thought that he has accepted, despite it not being the truth.Chapter 5 will flavor in Depression, and the Boss will make Dess feel a connection with Carol from them, that is what I think.
