I've been doing a lot of work on captions while the thread's been down.
I've got several new caps already finished, and a few more that are almost done that I'll be completing in the next couple days.

The first one I finished is this Metroid/Smash Bros. caption!

The typesetting on this one gave me some trouble. I very much underestimated the difficulty of making text legible and attractive against this pink background. I ended up resorting to this fairly extreme "Kraft Macaroni & Chesse" color scheme. Not the most elegant solution, but if it works it works, I suppose.

Second up is this all-new ANIMATED caption based on Mega Man ZX Advent / Rockman ZX Advent!

The script for this caption went through a lot of drafts, mostly for length. The first few attempts included a lot of extra context and exposition. I liked it a lot, but it was stuff that would have been meaningless to people who hadn't played ZXA, and I would have had to make the font size absolutely tiny to fit it.
The other hard part was coming up lots and lots of "blowjob sounds". You don't realize how hard it is to come up with fifteen different blowjob sound effects until you sit down and try to do it.

I am an absolute sucker for OneeShota stories. Something about an older girl who can't help herself but to fall in love with a heroic little boy pushes all of my buttons.
The blue swirl on the left was hand-drawn in roughly five seconds as a placeholder so I could figure out the size I'd need for the final version, but I ended up liking it so much I just kept it.

Last for the moment is a Yu-Gi-Oh! GX caption, once again starring Tenjouin Asuka / Alexis Rhodes.

This is I believe my sixth Asuka cap. One of the advantages of writing shorter form fanfiction like captions as opposed to one big story is that you can easily explore a variety of tones. With this one I went for a more dramatic/romantic angle, as opposed to my usual "lewd n' silly" style.
I look through a lot of fanart to pick out the images for these captions, which isn't always a pleasant process as a great deal of Yu-Gi-Oh fanart is peril or rape focused, and as I'm sure is obvious by this point I really love Asuka and hate seeing things like that happen to her. I actually ended up really liking this picture though, where she appeared to make a harrowing, narrow escape.

Back with more OC! This one is based on one of my favorite anime ever, Shinkon Gattai Godannar!!

I wrote a first draft for the script which I really liked and was very similar to the text here, with the only real difference being that Kouji was super jealous of (You) for comedy effect. Upon rewatching the show though, I remembered how much I liked Kouji and thought he really deserved better. So I rewrote the whole thing so that he could be interpreted as the viewpoint character too. You're okay with me, Kouji. You're chou-okay.

Yeah. Lots of little adventures making those.
The project for the Samus cap's background image had 14 layers so I could get it looking as nice as possible, and then I ended up basically covering it all up, lol.
Pandora's cap I edited the pixel art borders from rips of the game files to fit the exact size of the original ugoira animation. I then had to time the animation by process of elimination because I don't know how to read ugoira delay data yet.
The Enzan one I spent like an hour fiddling with various ways to render the text box on the left to try and make it look closer to the original game before giving up and going back to the original settings.
The Asuka caption is so huge that every time I wanted to export a copy to check and make sure I hadn't messed anything up GIMP brought my PC to a grinding halt. I played so many turns of Advance Wars (Dual Strike) while I was waiting on rendering that I actually finished the whole game.

So yeah, don't get fooled into thinking I have talent, I just throw time at every problem I run into until the problem breaks.

And here's another new one! Pokemon-themed.

The script for this caption basically wrote itself, so I challenged myself with the typesetting to make it obvious which of the five Pokemon was speaking what dialogue from the font colors alone. At first this started out fairly basic, but then I'd make one look nicer, so I had to edit the rest to make them look better to match it, and so on, and so on...
As there are only just the five Pokemon in the image, I deliberately implied in the story that there was (at least) a sixth (the one who's turn it ACTUALLY was tonight), so if your favorite Poke-girl isn't already depicted, you could imagine her as being just off-camera.

There really isn't any easier way than reading a lot and writing a lot.

When you read, think about how the story made you feel, and why it made you feel that way.
If the author did something you didn't like, ask yourself what you would have done differently.
If they did something you liked, ask yourself if you should be doing the same thing.
Not to be cynical, but a lot of writing is stealing ideas from other writers. There's no sense in reinventing the entire craft from scratch. Shakespeare stole ideas from people who lived before him, and we steal ideas from Shakespeare.
Read lots of different things. Reading good stories teaches you what to do. Reading bad stories tells you what not to do. Reading obscure stories exposes you to new ideas. Reading famous stories enables you to make literary references.
The more you expand your horizons and step out of your comfort zone, the more you'll learn.
Read new books, meet new people, try new things. Grow as a person, and you'll grow as an author.

Write often. Get used to the fundamentals.
Reread what you've written. If you don't like it, don't be afraid to make changes and start over from scratch. If you do like it, believe in your vision. Someone else out there will like it too, even if it takes them a while to find it.
Publish your stories, but only your best ones. Publish them in places where they'll receive constructive criticism. Publish them in places where they'll receive abuse. It isn't fun being criticized and abused, but if your stories can succeed in places like that, they can succeed anywhere.
Don't ignore the criticism or abuse out of hand. Think about the way your stories are making people feel. How do you want to make your audience feel? How can you write a story that will make them feel that way?
Write with a vision. Know what kind of story you want to create.
And no matter what happens, believe in yourself.
