So Julia isn't speaking two languages, he is just gradually recognizing certain words out of her sentences until it's almost all understandable/translated for the reader. (Also, I didn't want to continue writing that whole story in spanish dialogue, so this was the compromise I came up with to make the shift without feeling too abrupt or retconing the earlier parts.)
