Its a bit of work but if you have the means, its fun in its own right to achieve that. Gens 3 and 4 have the benefit of ribbons to collect for your shinies that you catch if you are interested in those. Really though its likely going to come down to what pokemon you want and what gen gives you the most joy to replay. Earlier gens also mean you can transfer them to later ones for more fun and adventure.

I had to replay gen 4 to get some of the legendaries and starters, so its also leads to replaying previous gens naturally, which is cool too.
