I am having a great time with this chapter honestly, both routes.
Is it even possible for the Knight to be a single, stable person?In chapter 3, it's clinical and deceitful. It can clearly one-shot the heroes without a second thought, but it gives them a difficult but normal fight anyway, almost like a test of strength. It then slowly pretends to be abducting Toriel until the real target shows up, Undyne, and kidnaps her easily.In chapter 4, it's showboaty and gloating. It harasses the heroes at random and floats around like an edgelord. It openly laughs in Susie's face when she tries to threaten it.In Chapter 5, it's rushed and off-balance. It tries to bail as soon as it gets Asgore and is clumsy enough to get chased down and cornered by Flowery before actually taking him seriously.Either the Knight is multiple people, or it has a really unstable personality.

TOLD to us that should have been SHOWN, and so many things that should have been told are shown time and time again. The flowers get so much focus in the dark world, but they are of essentially no consequence - meanwhile, Asgore, an important character to the plot, gets a few interactions where he acts like a child that can't control his emotions and then goes through a development arc where he decides to stop being obsessed with dark worlds all of the sudden. None of it hits. Susie tells us that her festival date with Noelle was the best day of her life, but WE DON'T SEE HARDLY ANY OF IT, and what little we do see an incredibly juvenile interpretation of romance where the characters are listening to each others' hearts or whatever. We don't see them connecting, like actually connecting. We fucking timeskip what was presumably hours of them interacting without even seeing one snippet of meaningful conversation. And the weird route? Well, it's interesting. It would be so much more powerful if it were juxtaposing ANYTHING worthwhile at all, though. Does anyone CARE about Susie and Noelle's relationship? Does anyone BELIEVE Susie when she says this was her best day ever? Kris and Noelle walking into the lake in what obviously symbolizes a double suicide could have been juxtaposed against a powerful and believable romance, but it just wasn't, and so it doesn't hit as hard as it COULD have. I say this from a place of love, I really hope that they can rally and learn from this. I don't want Deltarune to crash and burn.

I have thought about it for some time now, and I have finally reached a conclusion on the Twisted Route and its existence. So, the Twisted Route exists, but it is not exclusive to aborting the weird route. Let me explain.From what we know so far, there are at least 2 ways to reach an end state in the game, and by end state I would like to clarify that I don't necessarily mean ending, but more so a point where it is not possible to progress in the game anymore. We have the normal route and the weird route, both of which will bring us to an end state, but here's what's strange, the normal route has a lot of, let's say flexiblity, you can play the normal route in a ton of different ways, and one of the most important things the player can interact with is the secret bosses in each chapter and the quest to acquire all the shadow crystals. The shadow crystals are implied to be of great importance, getting all of them takes a lot of effort, there's considerable differences between playing the game while fighting all the secret bosses compared to not fighting any, or only some of them, it's certainly a different experience, but, the thing is, you can go through the game without getting the shadow crystals, and you can reach an end state like that.So, where am I going with this, well, the fact that the shadow crystals exists and they're such an important but also optional part of the game makes me thing that there must be some reward associated with it, there must something that willl be affected by the player going through the effort to get all the shadow crystals, and we do have that actually, we have the Twisted Sword, which required a pure crystal to craft, which itself requires all the shadow crystals to make. But the Twisted Sword also needs the Thorn Ring to be crafted. We know we can acquire the Thorn Ring by aborting the weird route in Chapter 2 at the correct time, but, I would like to offer a certain perspective on this. Cont.
