After thinking about why Toby wrote the festival in the way he did, I can think of a few reasons.I think it's important to keep in mind that Toby does have a history of fucking with the player on purpose, this is most evident with the halloween hack where he wanted to make the player feel cheated. Chapter 5 has also been described as an "Inferno of jealousy", and there are many in-game things in the game that warrant that, there are minor bits like the conversation between the mizzle and the rudinns in castle town, Catti getting brought to tears over Noelle and Susie, Pizzapants whole storyline, then more major ones, like, well, the entirety of Ralsei in the chapter, and the flowers desire to stay in the dark world, and much more. Now, this is all in-game stuff, but I think it goes even further than that, I think this inferno of jealousy thing is meant to affect the player too, and that's where Kris comes in. At this point it is undeniable that Kris has feeling for Noelle and Susie, there are too many scenes that show this, you could make the argument that it was intentional, that it's simply showing a deep friendship, and, to a point you could, especially analyzing the scenes by themselves in a vacuum, but if we take the entire package together then I think that just seems unlikely, if we're using occam's razor I think the simplest explanation has shifted from "Kris and Noelle/Susie are just good friends" to "Kris has feelings for Noelle/Susie". So, the point is, this was intentional, Toby wrote Kris as having feelins for Noelle/Susie, he wrote it so that the player could recognize it, he wrote it so that the player would start imagining what a relationship between Kris and Noelle/Susie would be like, he made it feel like a real possibility, and then, after all that, he made Susie and Noelle get together, disregarding Kris' feelings for them. And some of the players didn't like this, and felt cheated, and that's exactly what he intended to do.

Our tampering has basically made Noelle to strongly believe that attention from Kris is conditional on Proceeding, which is a major way she is the way she is, but it's also a cocktail of her own anxieties and desires which are playing into her wanting to become stronger, more independent, more valued, and more loved. The Weird Route is a window into Noelle, but its a window you are making by taking a sledgehammer and smashing through her mental walls. What Kris learned and understood through years of patience and interactions You pick apart like the dissection of an insect to see what makes it tick. And it can never be as perfect in its understanding or as flawless in its execution as true Kriselle, for it is a pale copy made from a crude understanding of Noelle.

The Knight being a time looped Noelle from WR is actually becoming incredibly satisfying, if tragic conclusion to things. Would make sense for how Roaring Knight treats him, and how Kris tries to avoid a lot about Noelle to protect her, alongside Noelle using swords. But that would bring the question on if Kris would know about the time loop or not.
