A few guys at the office were talking about The Odyssey today. Sure was a nice change of pace from the usual talk about video games and sports and political gossip.

I have a theory that people attracted to Cynthia either never played the Gen4 of Pokemon or did so at an older age. I understand that her design is appealing, but to a teenager back in the day she was an absolute menace and I can't see her in any other way. There's a reason she is considered the hardest Champion after all. She starts off with Spiritomb and my god what an opener. Back in the day and on release it was pretty much impossible to find this thing by accident just cause of its cryptic way of catching it. Therefore, when she first throws it at you, its the first time you are ever seeing it. Its unique Ghost/Dark typing meant it had NO type weaknesses until Gen 6. That's just how ruthless she was. If you manage to pass through it you get a somewhat evenly and respectable matchup up to her 5th Pokemon when she just throws a Milotic at you. Mind you, this is not a new Pokemon as its from Gen3. But to see it with your own eyes was still baffling on it's own. Feebas its pre-evolution spawns in only 6 random specific water tiles out of about 437 on the Gen3 game. Catching one was a drag and pretty much luck. Most people that ever got one did so from trading a good pokemon for an egg. Then to evolve it you have to had to get the proper nature and raise its beauty with very specific berries before its stomach limit hit. Milotic was just as annoying as Spirit Tomb as it kept healing with Aqua Ring and could one shot you with Ice Beam. (Ice Beam was nerfed on Gen6 btw) And then when you think you are finally off the hook she throws at you something that hits harder than a truck. Her signature Garchomp. Just to give you an idea. That thing remained meta for 14 years. Same deal as Spiritomb. It's impossible to know about it as its pre-evolution Gible is hidden in the secret section of Wayward Cave. Did I mention she has FOUR Full Restores? Sigh...Yeah I could never find her attractive, she's an absolute menace and a champion through and through.

The Hunters being back was cool (Funny thing I have a friend that was upset only the Lickers came back in requiem, though he skipped Rev and had no idea Hunters already had a comeback) The fact that it was more horror oriented than 5 and all the stuff that came after it like 6 or Operation Raccoon City made me appreciate it more. And I also thought it was really impressive for a 3DS game. You could play it on the go and the 3D effect was really cool and last but not least Raid mode being new and having RPG elements was interesting too and the fact you could play it online on a tiny portable was amazing.
