If Veth was released into the world as early as CH5 in time to be witness to the lake scene in the Weird Route, Veth would have no choice but to dive in and pull Kris out of the water or risk their death and the SOUL along with them. Chara's facial expressions are often much more sharp and defined with little ambiguity to what they are meant to be expressing, Kris is more often muted and subdued with their emotional expression and it takes someone that knows them well (like Noelle) to discern what they are feeling.

There's hardly any medical history behind it, and it just seems like a silly attempt by most to try and stand out.
