If you're writing a setting in a real time period in a real place, you don't actually have to do as much research as you might think. Writing is stage play. It's a magic trick. You don't need to describe everything about the time period in precise detail, or have the slang and mannerisms of the era down to a tee. All you need to do is convince the reader that the story is taking place in that time. If anything, you only really need a little bit of reading on the era initially, and then chapter by chapter you can ask yourself "I wonder how they did X" and "I wonder what they wore to Y" ect ect. Said space station was part of a larger complex that did xenomorph experiments including making companions out of them with very little success (except for the FMC/LI). The various xenomorphs escaped and the larger station got self destructed while the smaller ones were disconnected and hauled around to scramble any evidence. FMC has lucked out during the self destruct and left her cage/room and infiltrated the station the MMC is sent to. Except that happened half a (or maybe a full, I'm not sure) decade ago, so she was lonely and borded for years, became infatuated with humans and corporate aesthetics (the only media left on the station were corpo posters and training manuals) and extremely shy. MMC is a gloomy guy that resined himself to what amount to a space grave since the FTL travel to the station + the years he will spend there (5 at minimum with WY being able to extend the contract up to 30 years) means he has nothing to come back to.The meat of the story will be the first half/third where I make switching PoVs. His pov is that of a horror story protagonist as he slowly finds signs of habitation, scribbles of some black monster, sounds from the vents and shadows moving around. Her pov is Rapunzel finding a guy has climbed into her tower but doesn't know she's there so she gushes endlessly about how it's finally not mind numbingly boring, how cool humans are, how there's a whole world outside the station etc. etc. with her watching his every step, learning what cooking is and other mundane things.

The LI (probably, I'm not sure I'm able to make her povs) is a hunter-killer hydralisk assigned to the small unit he's responcible for (it's him, her and 2 zerglings (all zerg are technically female as per Blizz saying "they are like ants")). Her name's Canny (from the unit being called Canary when they were planned to be used as bait), the zerglings are Parm and Brie (because I think the little critters look like cheese wedges).The story will be bonding, learning about themselves and each other, establishing the zergs as individuals (I mean for themselves and not the reader), mercenary adventures and later on being entangled into the minor movements of the major players.
