>>85109251Ain't gonna lie, I did get pretty hype at this moment. I feel like I'm one of the few people who quite enjoyed V9.
>>85110507>I feel like I'm one of the few people who quite enjoyed V9.You must not watch much anime.
>>85110600Not in recent years, but mainly because it's all isekaislop or shonenslop. And the few shows I do dare watch tend to not grab my attention too much (last one was Witch Hat Atelier but that means little). I have watched a shitton of anime though, mainly pre-pandemic. More than the writers of RWBY for sure. I'd post a 5x5 but it's been a few years since I've made one lmao
>>85110507Volume 9 is actually one of the best RWBY volumes, and I don't get why people don't like it.
>>85110782
filler
>>85110927Canonically thicc
>>85110859>Volume that goes in depth into Ruby's psyche and has major character development for her is filler.By that logic tv episodes like Zuko Alone are filler
>>85111563Her main redeeming trait
>>85112064It's definitely not filler filler but it definitely feels inconsequential due to how it actually goes about handling the mental health theme (fucking suicide tea...)
>>85110782Tbf being the best volume of rwby isn't a very high bar to pass. It's mediocre at best if I'm being generous. Like the other anon said suicide tea is so fucking stupid I couldn't have done it worse myself.
>>85112591It's genuinely offensive. Like why would you ever try to frame Ruby trying to ACTIVELY take her own life as a good thing because it brought her to the Blacksmith?
>>85113743RWBY is a series that idealizes self-sacrifice and choice.
>>85113941Ironic as a lot of the cast have no choice whatsoever.
>>85110782Genuine question, what is there to like about it? To me, Volume 9 embodies all of RWBY's worst aspects>horrific tonal whiplash>weiss does fucking nothing the whole time AGAIN>blake and yang reaching new lows in likeability>useless retarded side characters hog screentime that could have gone to the heroes the entire volume>important events like the fallout of penny's death being handled almost entirely offscreen>finding a retarded, nonsensical excuse to fridge neo just because they couldn't think of what else to do with her>dogshit character writing all around>all of the lore introduced this volume is completely irrelevant to anything else the show established previously, except for providing a convenient way for the heroes to later defeat Salem in Ascension (which no one brings up, for whatever reason, despite being so obvious)>and all of this just for Ruby to end up in pretty much the same place she started development-wise, without actually resolving any of the issues the volume brings up (reminder Yang never apologises for essentially driving Ruby to attempt suicide)The only redeeming qualities are the curious cat (who is admittedly partially carried by Robbie Daymond) and the Rusted Knight, and all I can really say about the latter is that the idea was at least cool, even if the execution leaves much to be desired.
>>85113743>Like why would you ever try to frame Ruby trying to ACTIVELY take her own life as a goodThey didn't and you would actually have to be retarded to think that. She was lucky to not actually die and to be given a chance to figure herself out.
>>85114429>She was lucky to not actually dieThat's the point. She and the others didn't know the Blacksmith was going to just give her a pep talk. For all she and the rest knew, drinking the tea would've ended "Ruby" and she would've emerged as an entirely new person.
>>85112064stories are either character driven or plot drivenrwby has been plot driven for basically it's entire run, ruby herself hasn't gotten much character writing or development since, like, volume 2. This is obviously a big problem but trying to do a character focused season for season 9 without much carry through is bad
>>85114388>all I can really say about the latter is that the idea was at least cool, even if the execution leaves much to be desiredWhat did you find wrong with it?
>>85115413Saying it leaves 'much' to be desired is perhaps a bit hyperbolic, but I just feel like that they didn't use the idea to it's full potential, and when they did focus on it, they ended up undercutting the drama and tragedy of it with jokes. I might have found the 'mature' joke funny, but it simply wasn't the time. I'm also salty that they didn't let Jaune keep Juniper
>>85115652>full potentialCould you go over that? I'm just curious.>I'm also salty that they didn't let Jaune keep JuniperI guess they just didn't wanna animate a mount, so they had Jaune leave Juniper behind so they wouldn't have to deal with it in later seasons.
>>85114595And THEN they have the gall to try and apologise for it in RWBY Beyond by taking Ruby to a boba tea shop and Yang can half apologise for her behaviour.
>>85112064>V9>character development
>>85114388>horrific tonal whiplashNothing new in RWBY>weiss does fucking nothing the whole time AGAIN Again.>blake and yang reaching new lows in likeabilityI don't get what you mean, unless it's the gay shit, in which case I'm not homophobic.>useless retarded side characters hog screentime that could have gone to the heroes the entire volumeNothing new>important events like the fallout of penny's death being handled almost entirely offscreenTrue enough>finding a retarded, nonsensical excuse to fridge neo just because they couldn't think of what else to do with herHey, at least they gave her an excuse rather than just sort of forgetting about her for a few volumes >dogshit character writing all around*looks at rest of show* Was it ever different?>all of the lore introduced this volume is completely irrelevant to anything else the show established previouslyThis became a standard since they introduced the maidens. Cinder's blades used to be the product of fire dust on her dress, not her semblance.>and all of this just for Ruby to end up in pretty much the same place she started development-wiseThis is actually rather common for MCs whose main personality is already quite liked. You bring them down before you bring them up to where they were again.>Yang never apologises for essentially driving Ruby to attempt suicideI mean Ruby recovered and the volume ended pretty immediately after that, not a lot of time for a heart to heart. Next time we see them is presumably weeks later. My point is, this volume's failings are not that different from any other's. But it had a fun setting, I liked Neo during it, the pacing was quite better than most volumes. Idk what to tell you anon, I just think it was fun.
>>85112528
>>85115652Jaune not getting to keep his hair, his armor or his steed was a fucking travesty.
