>>85314043I think a big problem with these tutorials is that beginners often think they're a step-by-step for how you should construct every single drawing, rather than as a template for studying shape, form, and structure. I think that's why we see so many people drawing "construction" that's simply attempting to copy these tutorials, rather than use them as a proper method to map out the drawing itself.
>>85314561You hit the nail on the head. It took me a very long time to realize that.
>>85314611Same. It's taken me ages, but just last night I made a drawing based almost entirely on my own knowledge of anatomy and how everything sits in relation to everything else. It's HARD, but it would have helped to understand that kind of method from the beginning.I still can't do Loomis though, although I am finally starting to understand heads a little more. I guess I gotta do more dedicated skull studies.
>>85314561>simply attempting to copy these tutorials, rather than use them as a proper method to map out the drawing itselfWhat's a good way to put this to a beginner? Something like "use the perspective rules and anatomical reference points here as a guide to check your own work"?
>>85314694also also gesture first, construction second. I notice some tutorials also forget the inherit gesture behind certain poses
>>85314930"Learn your fundamentals" lmao. I resisted this for a long time, but it's simply not feasible; you HAVE to know the basics to be able to get better. You don't need to know or study them all at once (for example, you don't REALLY need light, color, or composition if you're just interested in figures for the moment), but you do need a few to even think about forming that solid foundation. I think the most important ones are gestures, shapes (including how to cut shapes into smaller pieces; establishing summetry is super helpful), perspective (at least insofar as learning how to think three-dimensionally) and if you're doing people, anatomy. Practicing your linework, too, of course, though that can be supplanted with enough patience, usually.Marc Brunet just uploaded a video talking about how you really only needed to know a small amount of said fundamentals in order to lay the foundation.Once you know those fundamentals, then you can start applying them to constructing drawings, since you have the toolbox stocked with some things. You can use spheres or boxes to get the perspective of a picture down, and then fill in the gaps, or figure out foreshortening by placing objects in front of others, or make new shapes by combining or cutting pieces out of others. You can ensure your anatomy is solid by drawing simple 'clothes' on a character, for example, and if it all lines up, you did it. If not, you hopefully know how to adjust it.I wasted a lot of time not doing any of this, and now I fear I might be too lazy to properly put in the time since I'm just "good enough". I feel like that's a shame if it happens to other people. You should be getting better and better all the time.>>85315002Agreed. But I see those misunderstood a lot too. Hampton, I think, has some really good videos on the subjects where he details his methods line by line. Very insightful.

>>85315242Just the nature of anonymous posting, I'm afraid. We're only really identifiable by our work, so when the post doesn't come with an image attached, all you've got to go on is the text. Everybody's got writer invariants that might tip you off, but those can be rather unreliable and there's often overlap; there's a lot of people out there who don't bother to capitalize their letters when they should, for example.

Foreground sketch only so far.
>>85353103>>85352894These are good for 30s
I think I'm relying too much on construction. Time to gesture it up and go nuts.
I need to get back to doing this again. I might do half of the 30 second ones though and do a couple of two-minute ones to compensate.
Going to present my own analysis in regads to what I need to focus on if I want to match NoahDoesArt's skill level (pic related) in a relatively "short" amount of time (1 year and half, 3/4 hours of drawing daily as the average)>Form and sense of 3d spaceBasically the most crucial aspect of what separates me from his work in terms of experience. His art feels very organic and bouncy. Drawabox and Perspective made easy alongside drawing from life/reference in general might fix this>General anatomy knowledge and figure drawingThe most important aspect lacking in my art besides form. Noah also has a strong knowledge of all the overall muscles and shit and knows how to pose bodies better and more naturally. Morpho first paired with Bridgeman or Hogarth later and a shitton of timed figure drawing might fix this>InkingNot as drastic of a difference as point 1 and 2, but the gap is still noticeable. Studying the work of professional mangakas and comic artists who draw in ink heavy detailed styles might fix this alongside the rendering in pen and ink book>Composition and StorytellingI think this just comes from more developed intuition and visual library and clear ideas rather than any book or course desu. References help drastically
>>85360186An example of my current skill level for direct comparison. I've been drawing casually for 3/4 years as a whole (counting the year and all the months I didn't touch a pencil). I love his work btw, and I use it as an example of which skill level I should be like before starting a proper comic book instead of focusing on funny strips like I'm doing now.
trying to just sketch ideas out rather than spend four hours stuck on one thing, I think it's kind of helping
>>85360206Well keep up the practice. Seems like half this thread is people telling themselves what they should or will do, and then never doing it. Don't make that same mistake.
Whatever.Art is for fags and losers (me).
>>85351705how do you render with pencils? probably a skill issue on my end, i find it almost impossible to control my pen pressure consistently, so my only option to lighten things up is to erase, which then requires more lines to fix, and then in the end everything looks like shit and i go back to cel shading
>>85364071I'm using the sk3 brushpack for krita since It's supposed to blend better somehow. Generally I'm trying to get tone down in one long "stroke", I don't lift the stylus, just go back and forth as light as I can since I've noticed in the past that separate strokes darken more. I haven't got it down to a science and there's a lot of patience, but one thing I try to keep in mind is that the darks can always be darker. Dunno if that helps any, I'm bad at giving advice and kinda just go through a drawing until it looks right if that makes sense.
>>85363908This doesn't look comfortable.
>>85365838leaning forward like that kind of sucks, but the rest is solid.

>>85360211Not sure if I'll finish this but it was good practice I think. Seems like "finishing" pieces always seems to make them look worse to me.
goggies
>>85360186That's a solid analysis. You're missing the stylization part though. I doubt the artist you posted as your inspiration got to that level just by grinding fundamentals. I'd include copying artist with that particular style in your to do list. Also an inherent understanding of 3d space and forms isn't something you study for but rather something that comes from millage. Waste of time to study directly if you ask me. Specially if you plan to fix that using drawabox, you'll just get better at drawing cubes instead of what you actually want to get better at (complex forms i assume)
Guess whos back. Took a week off waiting for my spare pen to get delivered and to just refocus on what it is I actually want to do with my art. Spent most of tonight fucking around with settings getting used to the new pen because it feels a bit too slick or something so only a few basic figures to show for it. I'll work on more experimental stuff after I get more used to it.

>>85411814It's generally accepted that an alter ego is going to be idealized to some degree, but overdoing it is a faux pas. Just keep it grounded and acknowledge your personal flaws rather than trying to cover them up with unearned bravado and unjustified ability in your avatar character and you should be fine.
>>85412270what's overdoing though?
>>85412301Heh, if that could be accurately defined, nobody would make the mistake unless they specifically wanted to for storytelling purposes. If it makes you cringe, you're almost certainly overdoing it. If it makes others in your close circle cringe, you're probably overdoing it. If it makes random strangers cringe, it's a 50/50 whether you're overdoing it. Keep things open and adaptable until you're sure of what you're doing and you'll keep the retconning to a minimum.

>>85434774>Isn't it fairly straightforward?if it was I wouldn't ask... some artists do advanced renderings that are beyond my skill level
>>85434501Couldn't find many asshole tutorials honestly, but here's one. People have different tastes in assholes, but a somewhat common method I see is this triangle one in the top left. The ass cleft runs down and splits sort of like a Y-Junction at the perineum, kinda going to either side of bulbospongiosus muscles. Now, the asshole itself isn't a triangle, so you shouldn't always draw it like one, it's more of a shape that can result from the ass cheeks pressing in on it.But it can be helpful to visualize that you can place the asshole in the indent where the top of the pussy or the male perineum merge into the ass crack, which happens to be sort of triangular.
>>85434501I got one from twitter some time agohttps://x.com/Valavarii/status/1623186500249690115?s=20
I have not been attentive to my drawing for some time now.I have been distracted, and my ability to enter anything even close to flow state shot. But I am trying.
>>85443254trying is more than enough. I'm just glad you still draw.
>>85431657Thanks anon. Though I realized I got a lot more than just the back incorrect, probably gonna just try drawing it again from scratch. Ugh, very frustrating, probably just gonna work on rendering and finishing the frontside view first.
Another day of drawing stuff I don't really care about...
western art really is sloppa I look at art on twitter and I draw bad but I look at art from japan feeds and it's all good and I draw better seeing it
I saw a design I liked so I’m yoinking what I liked of it, but a long way to go.
is everyone here a furry
>>85450955>goes to furry board>is everyone here a furryno clue to be honest desufam
>>85450989wait this board is a furry board I thought it was just random shit.
>>85451026its the only board (excluding /b/) that furry smut is allowed so its as close as it gets
>>85451077ohhh. That makes so much more sense.
>>85450955I've only draw humans and a grand total of 3 dragons.
>>85450955This is the furry board kind of but I do a little bit of everything.
>>85450955no i just smoke weed
>>85450955do monkeys count
>>85450955I guess? I've never drawn human art and I go to art school
>>85451684do you go to a furry art school
>>85451796No but I had a classmate about a year ago that drew some aviation advert with a furry woman that was presented at a critique. I suspect they were a porn artist. That might be mean to say but what they drew was practically a pinup
I have no idea where all the time goes when im doing this shit. I need to stop taking so many "Mini breaks" when doing this shit
Jesus, I hate this. Day after day of drawing with nothing to show for it. I feel like I've lost something. I'm just spinning the wheels with no purpose. What the fuck do I do now
>>85453140draw what you want, even if it's bad
>>85431145You should post another one!>>85453140On days like those what i do is draw something that i know i can get right with no much effort. Like a 3/4 view portrait or a character I've drawn a lot.
>>85452037>That might be mean to say but what they drew was practically a pinupTo be fair, aviation and pinups have a long history together so there's a good justification to hide behind. Wouldn't be the first time something of that sort goes to get crap past the radar. I should know, I'm quite guilty of it myself, heh.
>>85453904Cute
>>85453173>>85453651This is what I do. I've been doing nothing but what I want and stuff I'm familiar with, but also stuff that's new or a little challenging. The issue isn't drawing, it's just finding something that I want to finish. I feel like there's no meaning to what I'm doing. I'm just doing it to do it. Like I've gotten myself stuck into a niche and I don't know how to free myself.
>>85430151I've been pretty busy with school so I haven't had time to post and I'm not sure if you guys want to see my lame cartoon stuff anyway
hello /dig/. I have just awoken.
30 second gestures
I should really learn to zoom OUT when drawing digitally. I'm not sure how I let myself draw this pixelated mess.
We live again
>>85411689Simply replying to this just to say I fucking hate Google Images. It's swamped with AI Dragons.
How do I even draw something? Everytime I sit down to draw I lose all my energy 30 minutes after and get a bad mood. I can't finish anything and it feels bad. It wasn't like that 2 years ago.
>>85478888Getting old
>>85477104Which is why you want to specify that you're looking for dragon figurines for sale, should cut down on the AI genned results significantly. You might also want to consider actually buying one you really like and looking at it as a physical object so you can draw it from whatever angle you like.
Didn’t feel like using the fancy paper today.Took some liberties with the forearm things and the “wings”, but I don’t hate those decisions. Good lord, the human back is a travesty.Tried to keep the subtleties of the posture right.Any observations?
Improve.
just a lil something for practice
>>85487559ooh, looking good my negro
is it worth making taboo nsfw content if it's partly what you want to make? I was very recently asked to do a comm for a niche I haven't done yet and I'm tempted, but I'm worried it'd come at the cost of what little reputation I have if people I know see it. I don't think I've made any of my nsfw too obscene yet, but I feel really guilty for just wanting to make it in the first place
>>85488251It can't be that bad, can it?
>>85488251if you dont want to do it, dont. If you want the money, just say it was a comission.
does that hikari dude still post here?
>>85488281There are some successful artists out there that are doing fine with it in their galleries, sure, but it could get you branded and shunned from places>>85488408This might be the way to go, though it'd be hard to explain regardless of context
>>85450933Finished it.
question. How tall am i allowed to make my OC if it's based on me.
>>85489706about 4 feet
>>85489817what if im 2 feet irl
>>85489878stretch the torso out until your 4 feet
>>85489706Why not just use your height? It also just doesn't matter, it's an OC. The world is your oyster.
>>85489706yeah just do this lol >>85490314. Shit I'm 6'4 and i made my self-insert OC 6'7 cause 6 7 funny
>>85490492Truly disgusting behavior.
I've never used the animation parts of this program so I did a little test.
>>85490923Really nice, I think it could use a single smear frame for the ball turning into a star. But this is more animation than I've ever done.
>>85490902
>>85489597Bruh I wanna commission you
ok my 60s gestures are getting nice. Think im ready to actually work on projects now.
>>85489597Oh, I missed this over the manlets talking below you. Very nice work. Beautiful lady.
>>85490923what program?
>>85491553Clip Studio Paint
New Thread?
>>85491054>I think it could use a single smear frame for the ball turning into a star.I agree but I was caught between wanting the star to be very sudden and wanting to finish quickly because I did this with a mouse.
