General for discussion of Human Domestication Guide & related fiction.

Giant Woman Edition

>What is HDG?
HDG is a collective kink writing project about the Affini (an advanced precursor civilization from outer space), who aggressively care for every other species in the universe. They have finally turned their glittery eyes on future grimderp hypercapitalist nightmare humanity. Using their natural charisma and various classes of Xenodrugs, they aim to make Florets (d̶o̶c̶i̶l̶e̶,̶ ̶d̶r̶u̶g̶ ̶a̶d̶d̶l̶e̶d̶ ̶p̶e̶t̶s̶ loved and cared for individuals) of us all! But don't worry, they always have everyone's best interests at heart, even if their methods aren't even remotely consensual~

Hey I’m sorry to drop in like this, but can some finni tell me it’s gonna be okay? Like I’ll be alright and happy and whatever is going on right now will pass. Work has been ramping up hard lately, I’ve been pushing my self to the limit for the past year but it really feels like I’m running on fumes at this point. I was able to self soothe with daydreaming and fics but it’s to a point now where that doesn’t do anything. I know this comes off as weird and demanding but my neurotic ass just needs someone to tell me that I’ll be okay and that it will work out in the end.

I just need mommy to tell me it’s gonna be okay…

There isn't ever any shame in needing a hand, in whatever form. And you can be sure, it can always get better. I know people who spent years sleeping under bridges, who've had every misery you can name heaped on them, and came on out the other side as the good and the kind and the happy. If them, why not you? Why not everyone? The only time it's over is when you've given up, and as long as you're still going, you'll find your happiness.
Nil desperandum, little one.

It isn't easy sometimes, and the effort you put in won't match the results you get out sometimes, but it always worth taking the next step, and it will work out in the end.
You are worth the effort of existance petal, and it will always be more worth while enjoying the most of what you can of it while you have it, not matter what comes after.
Its going to be okay.
We're all going to make it.

Both of you, thank you! Reading through your messages really lifted my spirit. I’ve spent much of the past week drowning in stress silently, I don’t want to worry those around me so I put on this capable facade but most of the time I want to break down crying. Since I’ve found it, HDG has really helped me in not only coping but also giving myself empathy, which has been something I lost within the last few months. I guess what I wanted from this, and why I like hdg so much, is the promise that things will eventually get better! So thank you

If a floret is going to be doing a sport they WILL be modified to enhance their preformance, especially at the professional level. And while both biological, and mechanical modification are available to individuals the most in depth enhancements, especially those that effect the capacity to process and and respond to information, are only available through haustoric implantation because of the drastically higher potential risk and affect on judgement these modifications could have.

Being competitive sounds borderline feralist, a floret would be in it for the love of the game.
>>
>>85343661
It can very much be both, even if many aren't anymore a lot of sportflorts have a history as being highly competitive ferals, a surprising lot of which directly challenged their (soon to be) owners to a game of some kind.
It is known that of all these cases there is only one feral that had actually won their freedom by beating multiple Affini in a game of snakes and ladders. They did however come back the next day and ask to be pet again and you can probably imagine how that all turned out.

>>85359068
Depends on the cult and especially on its goals. The more violent, the more likely they are to intervene, I'm sure they'd be entirely willing to preserve non-violent religions that don't incur anykind of significant self harm.
If they worship an existing entity or not would be a relevant factor too. If it does exist than its relationship between itself and its faithful is worth putting into consideration, if it doesn't exist then both legitimacy and possible otherwise entities are worth considering as options.

This is where the proverbial "strong vine", would prioritize physically restraining the domesticate, in the case of terrans around the arms hands and mouth with restrict a lot of their high priority motor functions, and all you to use their means of aggression against them. They are very easy to hold upright like this, their arm movements become easily predictable, and their reaction to bite will only see them ingesting your phytoxin and incapcitating themselves.
>>
>>85360059
It would last maybe a couple generations post-domestication, but I wouldn't expect it to last any longer than 4 or 5. Living things are naturally given to conserving energy, and spending the time and energy to cook something when with every one of the literal best, molecularly-perfect meals ever conceived by a 17-galaxy-spanning civilisation available instantly at the press of a button, the skills needed to cook will deteriorate and disappear, save for among historical recreation hobbyists and niche weirdos who found an ancient box set of kitchen nightmares.
>>
>>85359591
Generally the purpose is for the leader to ascend to a higher state of being and achieve immortality. Generally the Modus operandi is seeking hidden truths any lore, doing rituals to gather power and deeper understanding. Tend to keep to themselves but not above violence or sacrificing a follower if it serves the goal.
The entities summoned and spirits ect invoked are (semi) real, theres actual arcane lore and ascention
>>
>>85360216
wow I raped the grammar of this while modifying it

It would last maybe a couple generations post-domestication, but I wouldn't expect it to last any longer than 4 or 5. Living things are naturally given to conserving energy, and almost nobody's going to spend the time and energy to cook something when with every one of the literal best, molecularly-perfect meals ever conceived by a 17-galaxy-spanning civilisation available instantly at the press of a button. The skills needed to cook would deteriorate and disappear, save for among historical recreation hobbyists and niche weirdos who found an ancient box set of kitchen nightmares.
>>
>>85360216
No it wouldnt. It'd turn into a tradition and/or hobby instead of a daily necessity, but people would still do it. People do all linds of things to this day that stoped making logical sense to do ages ago.
>>
>>85360288
Nobody goes down to the river with their clothes and a scrubbing board, they put them in a washing machine.

Imagine you're a 2nd-generation after-domestication terran and your boomer ass grandparents go "noooo you need to use these fucking pots and pans and spend half an hour to make dinner, you can't just press a button and have something infinitely nicer than we know how to make pop out immediately."
>>
>>85360226
Singular ascension is probably going to at least be perceived as feralistic self-prioritization. That's something the Affini would at least want to question the leader about their intentions to uplift or at least ensure the safety and survival of their followers. As far as acquiring that power goes, again violence is the biggest issue, but things like dangerous experimentation, again self harm, or otherwise practices that put the gaining of knowledge ahead of the health and preservation of the followers. They were likely going to be doing individual specimen interviews regardless, but if they do find any signs of neurological or metaphysical damage and degradation they will likely intervene. Especially if the individual observed is not observably happier in service to the leader then they would be otherwise.
>>
>>85360338
Its generally considered that the natural imperfections of cooking create some notes of flavor that the perfect molecular even reconstruction of the compiler cannot recreate. That sort of sensation of something being better or more subjectively beautiful because of its flaws, rather than in spite of them. That being said, its still not like everyone is going to do it, your grandparents wouldn't insist against the compiler, but if they themselves value the imperfection of hand made meals they would still think its significant enough to teach you how to do it. Its not exactly like how you could cook all the ingredients for a bowl of ramen yourself, versus zapping a cup of noodles for 3 minutes, but the pride of making something for yourself to eat by hand and the effort of the process combined with that sort of wabi sabi of hand cooking, I think would be wide spread enough for cooking to still be a decently popular pass time well into the protectarate era.

>>85360636
In my experience, cooking is all or nothing, it either tastes good or it doesn't. Leaving aside that any theoretical flavour-adding imperfection could itself be replicated, the point is more that what the compiler makes is going to be straight-up better. Yeah, people now have pride in knowing how to make food, because here and now it's a useful skill that changes their life and the life of the people they love for the better. But with compilers around, it doesn't. It's the same food, and more than likely objectively less pleasurable to consume.

And that recontextualises the skill of cooking. It's no longer something that improves your life and that of your loved ones, it's just something you're doing for its own sake. There are environments where that applies - historical recreationists and similarly historically-fascinated people - but for the vast majority I'd expect it to disappear from their lives altogether within a couple centuries.

I like cooking. I cooked yesterday and cooked today and will cook tomorrow and I'm eating a donut I fried myself inbetween writing this. I like the senses of discovery and of pride that come with trying new recipes and pulling them off, and I take pleasure in giving out things I've made to people and seeing them enjoy something they would not have had without my effort. But I think that pride and that pleasure are things that exist because of the meaning that cooking has, and compilers would ultimately remove much if not all of that meaning, leading to the skill being reduced to a very niche thing.
>>
>>85361246
The biggest issue I have with your argument is ascribing it to a particular community, like it would be ONLY them that cooks ever. And that I would say very confidently is not true, even if they would be the sort that cooks the most regularly.
I say this because, for as much as the compiler can negate the necessity of cooking, it also creates the availability of it as well. You can compile all the tools and ingredients at a whim, you can have the hab Ai read the instructions, even if its only something someone only ever tries once they still can cook, they may not be able to profess to having the skill to do it consistently, but its not like you can just say out right the capacity to cook doesn't exist outside of a single niche community. Its still available to try on one's own to learn for yourself and teach to your children just because you think that it's fun and you think they could have fun with it. Like playing a game like baseball or riding a bike, there's not any particular reason you might need to have this as a skill and it probably won't be life changing to have or to learn but I wouldn't say that in only 2 generations everyone only compiles their food outside of a given community.
>>

I did think about that ease of access, and I think it's not invalid as an argument - perhaps 'disappear altogether' was a bit hyperbolic - but I do lean towards food culture becoming just, totally different, completely reshaped by the new technological paradigm. The whole notion of having "a" meal as such comes out of the difficulties of food preparation, but if that doesn't exist, and with a few button presses you can serve an emperor's feast in a minute's time, and there's no such thing as waste because anything you don't use can just be decompiled? There's no way people would think about food the same way, or that their conception of what eating even is wouldn't be so radically altered as to be beyond historical cooking.

Unlike riding a bike or playing basketball, which are pleasures that can't necessarily be superseded, compiler dining would be something so far beyond what we now consider normal cooking that I can't think that everyman's interest in the latter would be more than extremely minor - why would he want to learn something which produces a greatly inferior experience to what he knows? It might grasp someone as a passing fancy, but I think of it in terms of, as mentioned previously, washing one's own clothes with a scrubbing board. A whole lot of extra effort for no gain over what the vastly easier, more familiar and just plain better method.

2 generations, no, I think it'd take 4-5; needing to cook would have to be a thing out of living memory for the kind of culture I envisage to fully emerge and dominate, perhaps a few more generations after that for those who personally knew those who'd needed to cook to pass on as well, and at that point the whole range of the species is submerged in this entirely new environment, where "cooking" is as much a historical curiosity as, idk, using a phone booth.
>>
>>85362699
yeah I agree, I think cooking culture would disappear pretty fast
4-5 generations is also pretty generous. I think most terrans would stop cooking within a decade, with a few holdouts
>>
i sure as hell wouldnt cook again if there were a magic freshly-cooked-food box in my house
>>
>>85363363

nta, but I think it's the opposite, maybe in a future where people still had to do menial labor, but when there's unlimited free time for hobbies, what else would people be doing with their time, I know people who spend all their free time in truck driving or flying simulators, and I think more people like cooking than driving trucks.
Also, scrubbing/cleaning clothes is a bad comparison, a better one would probably be sewing or making your own clothes. While for sure it's rarer these days, it's still a hobby, and I think that in post scarcity it would become more popular than today for example, even if you could compile any clothes you want. Having free access to any textiles, threads, and equipment would enable more people to engage in it, like how art is more popular now than hundreds of years ago when dyes and paper was way more cumbersome and expensive.
Cooking, baking, tailoring, drawing, making music and all sorts of hobbies can be viewed more as art than necessities, becoming fulfilling forms of entertainment.

I just don't think that there's much reason for anyone to pick it up as a hobby in the first place in a compiler-based food culture, outside of historical interest. Improving your everyday dining experience - which is what cooking is really about - in such a culture would be more about the selection of dishes you serve, their presentation, the atmosphere in your home, and so on, rather than the ability to manufacture a given dish; it'd just be a completely different skill set.

Like I said up here >>85361246 for me the joy in cooking is about the pride and pleasure of executing a task which improves my life and sharing it with those I love, but cooking when I have access to a compiler doesn't really do that, because the compiler could produce something a lot better a lot quicker. I'd be putting in a lot more time and effort for an inferior outcome.

People like to go on about the meaning in personally-cooked food but I think that's a load of dirt, frankly. Food either tastes good or it doesn't, and even if it tastes good you'd rather eat something that tastes better. It's different to tailoring, or blacksmithing, or pottery, or woodcarving, or painting or whatever else where the appreciation of the art's creations is a lot more subjective and cerebral - food is chemical, you either feel pleasure from consuming it or you don't, and the meaning is more in what you eat and how you eat it and who you eat it with, rather than how the food was made. That's a tertiary factor at most.

As for what else people would be doing, literally anything? Kissing their wives? Taking hella drugs? Reading a book? Vinepets? Cooking is both unsocial (because FUCK trying to cook with someone else in the kitchen) and not particularly intellectually stimulating, neither of which give it high marks as a hobby when you have the entire rainbow of human experience available for the asking.
>>
>>85365326
Beds are highly personalisable things according to the way you like to sleep, how many people you sleep beside, etc. A bed in the compact is anything u want it to be, really. A flort's bed is a pet's bed because it's the bed a pet sleeps in. Form is irrelevant.

>>85365796
The actual process of cooking is unsocial and unstimulating, I mean. Obviously choosing what to make and then giving it to people is both of those things. But those aspects of cooking don't require you to make the food urself.

Florets aren't zombies, the haustoric is only contagious under very specific conditions and several deliberate modifications. You are at worst, proxy-phytox'd. You can either us some of the topical vine-cure cream, or Narcan and you should come out all right.
>>
>>85365796
>food is chemical, you either feel pleasure from consuming it or you don't
I think you are being unfairly reductive to taste just because it's linked to food and that happens to also be a necessity for survival.
Why can't art express itself through taste rather than sight? It's all also just chemical signals or wavelengths of light or atoms all the same.
It isn't either as black and white as either good or bad, there's an entire realm of different goods, some foods are not strictly better or worse than others, and sometimes you would still choose something inferior because it comes with intent. Like would you rather eat a 5/10 cookie your child made for you or a 6/10 store bought cookie. Most people would rather eat the more meaningful cookie.
Appreciation of the foods creation is just as prevalent as in the other things you listed, a dish being consumable doesn't make it less meaningful in that sense, one could easily say all the same stuff about all other forms of art, like why make a pot when you can just compile one exactly how you want, or compile clothes, or compile a painting, it's all creating something which cooking is also.
>because FUCK trying to cook with someone else in the kitchen.
what if it was a huge kitchen, like on masterchef where everyone had different stations, and then you all tasted each others food afterwards, we're not limited by lack of space.

The creation of food and the creation of a painting is not the same. Appreciation of the qualities of paintings is almost entirely cerebral, their whole substance is in one's thoughts about them, and thus the meaning of being crafted by an individual is greatly more important; their substance itself is meaning.

Food is different, it is appreciated by the body, chemically, without need for the nuances of thought or emotion. A painting cannot be enjoyed unless one has positive thoughts or emotions about it; food can. It is all very well to equivocate chemicals and photons, but the enjoyment of the visual arts is not in the sensation of one's photoreceptors working, but in what the resultant image makes us think and feel.

And In front of my child, I would doubtless prefer to eat a 5/10 anything made by them over a 10/10 anything else, but that would be because I'd not want to upset them by rejecting what they made, and want to make them happy by enjoying what they made, not because I actually prefer the 5/10 whatever.
But, if it were me who had made something for another, I would take very little pleasure in knowing I have served them an inferior meal for the sake of what, my own hobby? That's not me making their life better or easier as it is when I cook for people now, in the real world. That's me making their life measurably lesser than it otherwise would've been if I'd used a better tool i.e. a compiler.

>what if it was a huge kitchen, like on masterchef where everyone had different stations, and then you all tasted each others food afterwards, we're not limited by lack of space.
I still hate it. The last thing I ever want in my whole life is to be bothered while I'm trying to cook. We hates it precious.
>>
>>85367649
>Food is different, it is appreciated by the body, chemically, without need for the nuances of thought or emotion. A painting cannot be enjoyed unless one has positive thoughts or emotions about it; food can.
Sure, but this doesn't detract from cooking as an art form in any way, it's actually just an additional boon that food has which other forms of art don't. Not only can you enjoy food in your thoughts, you can also enjoy it chemically without thoughts, in a sense an inedible painting kinda gets mogged in that aspect.
I don't see how any of this makes food being crafted by an individual become less important.

>That's me making their life measurably lesser than it otherwise would've been if I'd used a better tool i.e. a compiler.
Feeling cared for beats out the 1 point difference in taste, their taste buds might have felt a bit less flavor, but knowing that you put the time in to make something for them will make them happier than if they knew you just nonchalantly compiled something.

Species that's really into rhetoric and when they meet the Affini challenge them to a debate on whether domestication is always better than being independent, with them staying independent if they win and getting domesticated if the Affini win. They successfully argue that domestication being better relies on your own individual values aligning with it and thus the actual question is the relatively trivial 'do you want to be domesticated'. The Affini then domesticate them anyway, and they don't actually cause trouble, but every single one of them knows the Affini lost the argument then broke their promise, and has a knack for bringing it up at the most (in)opportune time, and will gladly expand on the whole saga at length whenever anyone shows an interest.

I lean pretty ace even in my idealized scenarios. I like the idea of being explicitly reassured that I'm not supposed to have sex, even as people around me have it. I feel pretty guilty about wanting that and hdg gives me an idealized way to dispense with that guilt.

>>85403589

can I ask what you mean? the original story doesn't actually have any sex at all, and from what I understand glitchy left the discord because of how openly sexual it had become (as opposed to acekink stuff). not to litigate that (to each their own, imo) but I'm not sure that the actual act of sex is necessarily central to hdg. arousal, sure, but one thing I really like about hdg is how common it is to separate out arousal from sex.

The Affini are known to be largely biomechanical, so even if we do assume his slashes can cut cleanly through them, they can still very easily reconstruct themselves so long as their core isn't.
And while it is Cannon to JJK that at least a humanoid body plan is required for actual jujitsu sorcery, the Affini should presumably still be able to research it and craft cursed tools for detaining sorcerers.
Though Sukuna specifically, and other proficient RCT users, may be cases for infectious or immediate haustoric implantation. And if they maintain access to the ability as a floret, they will likely cause some amount of interference.

Sukuna is way beyond a normal human. Realistically they would have to kill him unless they have unbelievably powerful jujutsu sorcerers of their own. Bombard him from space or something

Hypnosis and drugs won’t work due to RCT and inhuman resistance, his physical state reverts constantly and he’s super fast with his own pocket dimension and slashes thet can cut reality
>>
How the affini would make Sukuna his best self: they can’t defeat him so increasingly powerful and scary affini opponents keep challenging him periodically in the enclosed area where he is, forever. He loves it
