A big part of that is Malfoy not only getting a bigger part overall, since in the books he's basically just a dick for the first five, shows a small amount of humanity in book 6, and vaguely 'redeems' himself in book 7. Part of that naturally comes with giving Malfoid a bigger role in the story, and different folks have different strokes on how exactly to make that all work in the end.In addition to the redemption arc, it also just provides a much more satisfying conclusion to the final battle, with love being the thing that killed Voldemort in the past, and now the same thing that spells his end by the finale.

The Malfoy’s avoid all prosecution because they technically helped end the conflict, none of them go to jail, and Draco ultimately becomes real, genuine friends with Harry as adults, and their children become friends too.
