>>86318141nah go and bt is good, no judgement. id imagine that a tui framework like that might be restrictive or nonperformant for a game, though. if youre not doing turn-based, it might slow down during the render loop. id suggest roughing out a poc before solidifying the stack because a shader would let you do cool shit like creating maps in arbitrary formats (map/resource editing is really really important and not something that bt does because its a tui library). have you put thought into resource editing, map representation/editing, entity systems yet?

>>86318236>if youre not doing turn-based, it might slow down during the render loop.terminal roguelikes not being turn based is pretty aware. my inspiration here is dungeon crawl stone soup, rogue, angband, etc, i basically just want to take that game base and add arpg itemization>have you put thought into resource editing, map representation/editing, entity systems yet?yeah im not even thinking about graphics like you are because thats baby shit. with a char[][] and your imagination you can do whatever you want i dont really feel limited. i am racking my brain about the data structures and algorithms required to do arpg itemization because thats whats interesting to me. killing the mob, the mob rolling from various loot tables it has access to, generating the random gear with all its various modifiers, then actually using those modifiers, and the generic data structures you need for all that, and then crafting systems layered on top of that. how do you design a data structure or relation of data structures where you can elegantly have your weapon damage be calculated from and affected by a dozen different modifiers from a dozen different places without a bunch of spaghetti code? its something i could tinker at for months and have a fun little game that could become something real too, have you ever heard of an ascii roguelike with poe-style arpg endgame and grinding and bossing? why doesn't one exist? i think the terminal is an under explored medium, it removes the need to have any artistic skill whatsoever, it unlocks the canvas so to speak. you can shove as much mechanical complexity into it as you want as long as you can represent it with a rectangular text grid.
