Gotta figure out what you want to do. Berlin for degenerate activities. Bavaria for beer, historic towns and nature. Baltic coast is cool but kind of boring. Most of west Germany is expensive and frankly a bit boring.

Berlin has it's charme and you can easily spend 10 days there and in the surrounding. That said the south is very different overall. Different food, beer, people, cleaner, safer. Overall more pretty I guess. Also nice to see. And Munich - Berllin has that rather quick ICE train connection. At least 2 or 3 days in Munich wouldn't hurt for sure. Maybe a day to the alps. Elvis Presley was stationed near Frankfurt and he drove to Munich twice because he liked it a lot. He skipped Berlin.

as other poster said add a day on to Munich. If feel like you have seen enough of central in a day (honestly, if you know what you want to see and spend 12 hrs walking around, I think one day can be enough - which I know is controversial, but just my opinion) spend a day going to Dachau and nymphenburg palace. Or day trip to either Chiemsee (only advise if sunny day as otherwise it wont be very pleasant, for bavaria's answer to versailles) or Regensburg.


Alternatively, keep everything the same, but stop for a day in Nuremberg on way to munich - its on the way and its one of my favourite cities in Germany

North east mostly has nature stuff; the nice baltic beach and the Mecklenburg lake area. Nothing else in terms of cities though outside of Berlin. Maybe Spreewald. Depends on what you like. Well Hamburg has it's qualities. A harbor tour with the Speicherstadt is really cool, the luxury center around the Rathaus has something and the nightlife of St. Pauli is it's own really great thing. If you're under 30 it's a 10/10 place to explore, party, fuck and get drunk. Family travel is okay you got a awesome Zoo (seriously Hagenbeck is fantastic) and the Miniature wonderland is great for the kids and I also really enjoyed that. Gourmet food lover get their fix there too and for the old you got some world class golf courses and culture.
I agree Hamburg is special but it's still worth 2-3 days for any age group while Frankfurt is complicated and for special interests unless you're willing to take day trips as you find so many great places a 1h train ride away that are almost untouched by tourism and really shine.

and build up through longer time

you can't really make that kind of blanket statement

just to give a few examples
Tübingen or Ravensburg were bombed and still most buildings survived
Frankfurt or Dresden rebuild their historic centers in recent years
Munich or Nürnberg rebuild right after WW2 and look (for some part) quite similar to pre war

small cities weren't bombed, but unless historically significant all you'll find are a few unimpressive timber framed farm houses
small cities that survived well were already past it's prime in WW2 and only regained popularity due to tourism in recent decades
e.g.
Goslar, Weimar, Marburg, Wernigerode, Quedlinburg etc.

so the size of the city doesn't really correlate with bombing intensity
it's more a combination of industrial base in the 30s/40s and rebuilding decisions post WW2

generally there is plenty of historical architecture everywhere though

Ok I took out Hamburg and added a day to Berlin. I arrive in the morning so I really have 5 full days in Berlin area. I'll spend one of those on Potsdam. I'm not skipping it, because it actually has things I'm interested in it.
In Munich, I still have about 2.5 days, depending on how early my train arrives. 1 of those days will be spent at Eagles Nest, my main motivation for Munich desu, but I'm not sure if I should spend another day on a day trip. I'm not interested in Dachau, because I've been to Auschwitz and frankly, if you've seen one you've seen them all, however I was contemplating Neuschwanstein Castle, although if I did both day trips, idk if I'd be missing out on the actual city of Munich

Well you got Wiesbaden with a 10/10 cultural scene and a high roller casino that is worth it's name and reputation, you got Aschaffenburg for your quick Bavaria fix and the Spessart for 8,5+/10 hikes if you got a car or want to plan, for coomers well there's Oase and some other high profile p2p night clubs, if you got a family the Zoo Frankfurt is cool but the real gem is the Opel Zoo near Kronberg that is worth a visit anyway.
If you enjoy top tier food Frankfurt has a lot of options even for a lower budget and the äppler Kneipen in Sachsenhausen are fun to get wasted.

definitely go to Potsdam. I have been there twice, once in the height of summer a couple of years ago (35 degrees) and then just this last February when it was covered in snow and both were lovely in their own way. The only advice I would give for Potsdam is to book online if you want to go inside any of the buildings now, as I didn't know that and the first time I went was in the height of summer and I could not get in to the palaces. The park is free and you can wander around in anycase and I still had a great time, but it was disappointing as I love palace interiors and I didn't know at that stage I would ever be back in Potsdam as I thought it was a once in a lifetime thing. But I have since found myself back in Berlin like 5 times in the last couple of years and this winter there was no need to book in advance as there just weren't many people there. I could get a ticket to see sanssouci and the New Palace on the day.


Same goes for the reichstag. Its free, but you have to book. All of my trips to Berlin have been last minute and I have never been able to get a slot. Even when I was last there - a week out all the places had been reserved.

I understand on paper why people can like Hamburg, its just for several reasons I didn't really enjoy it. I loved my day trip to Lubeck, but didn't vibe with the city. To be fair it was pouring with rain and in the middle of winter, and the weather makes a huge difference to how you enjoy a place. While the old shipyard area would have been cool to chill out and stroll around on a nice day - Ice cold song winds and rain made the experience not that great. Plus not to be too politically incorrect; I hated the whole migrants/ immigrants who make (at least the central and north of the transtation) the whole area feel sketchy and like you are in the Middle East or Africa. Same with Frankfurt, though as a physical city I find Hamburg to be more interesting.

Is the Berlin clubbing house/techno scene worth checking out? Will i fit in and meet cool people or chicks as a decent looking 33 year old burger?

You didn't post a pic but I guess Nürnberg and the region, well Würzburg is awesome to stroll around and Tauberbischofsheim too. Well you got Heidelberg that is cool, else you go all the way over to Strasbourg, up to Freiburg, or you go up to lake Constance, there you got Konstanz, Friedrichshafen or Lindau that have something going. Anything else in your marked area well you can find some comfy small towns worth a stop and a beer but pretty much anything larger got bombed to shit or is now in total decay due to the downfall of industry that started in in the early 2000s.
On the outskirt of Munich you got Starneberg, Herrsching or Rottach-Egern they're small but really comfy and if you want to go for a hike worth a stop.

Frankfurt is okay just the area around the main station is a complete mess and sadly the first impression you get from the city. There's a small old town with some history/museums, Kleinmarkthalle for foodies and the Äpplerkneipen (Cider taverns) in Sachsenhausen for the general traveler. The Opera is great if you enjoy that, it has a cool zoo but again not for everyone, then you have a great food scene if you're into upper/gourmet tier food, some gentleman clubs for p2p and a interesting nightlife/club scene that is it's own thing.
To put it simple Frankfurt is a banking city and the center (CBD) will start to empty out at the end of business hours and is pretty much ded by 9pm as everyone goes back to their "village in the city" or any comfy place within a 1h train/car radius. What is left is the junky/red light center around the main station and the designated nightlife areas.

Frankfurt Airport is well connected (straight to the ICE network) if you don't have connecting flights it's actually a okay airport to arrive/depart just keep in mind this thing is a maze under perma construction for over 10 years and will stay that way for at least 5 more. So depending on when you arrive it can be super smooth or wild stuff.

Do what you want but IMO it's a okay place to stay for 1-2 days just stay outside of the Bahnhofsviertel and it's good.

I'm from Zurich, so I connect often trough FRA just because. As a arrival/departure airport it's 9/10 times totally great but sometimes you get lost in the maze. For connections it can really suck even connecting from LH/LX to LH/LX flights. But it's nothing compared to the hell that is CDG or IST.

At least I would. Its a slightly easier trip to do in a day and although typically very busy, is still impressive. Unless you are obsessed with Nazi history, Eagle's Nest is only OK. Much of the charm is the wider area of Berchtesgaden - hikes and boat trips on Koingsee etc which can be done in a day if staying close by, but not that great is leaving from and going back to Munich.

Both need a decent amount of playing if doing it in a day and arent doing a tour that picks and drops you off in munich

The southeast is the only place with beautiful nature. There are many beautiful cities in Franconia, Bavaria and Baden. Maybe you can start in Berlin, drive down and visit some eastern cities like Dresden on the way, then Franconia, then Noerdlingen, Allgaeu/Zugspitze/Neuschwanstein and finally Munich.

There are some nice midsized places.
Ludwigsburg has a nice baroque style palace, if you are interested in stuff like that.
Esslingen has a nice medevial old town area.
Ulm is a nice city with the highest church in world.
Tübingen is a university town that has a nice old center.
Around Stuttgart there are a lot of smaller towns that while having nothing speacial are still pretty nice and might be worth a visit if you want to see something with almost no foreign tourists. (For example Kircheim, Waiblingen, Marbach, Besigheim, Schwäbisch Hall, Schorndorf)
If you want some real german experiences go to some small village festivals and get drunk on local wines and beers.

I cannot say too much definitively about it, as I was only there for a couple days, and this was my first time solo travelling (from the US), and I just kind of winged my visit to Hamburg with not too much prep.

The city was full of a lot of pretty architecture, much more so than berlin, and it feels far more spacious as well. Canals are everywhere and it's a great place to explore, but I would say things are spread out enough that you should be prepared to do a lot of walking or utilize public transit.

The warehouse district was extremely pretty, and looking over the river at all the harbors was also a cool sight. The city kind of feels like it's right on the coast, even though it's a good 30-60 minutes from the sea.

The city didn't really feel really like "lefty-central" to me, and if anything Berlin deserves the title more-- Hamburg's St. Pauli (Red Light district) gave me more of a sleazy Vegas vibe compared to Berlin's punk/queer Kruezberg. (But also the place being "lefty central" isnt something that bothers me, so maybe I'm understanting it. Take what I say with a grain of salt.)

There were a lot of bums/druggies around the train station, but I wasn't bothered or asked for money at all during my trip there. Some around the Reeperbahn too in certain places, like in front of the KFC (lol), but they were all minding their own business. I have heard that the city has a drug problem, but outside of those two areas I didn't see anyone that made me feel very unsafe.

As a solo traveler there it was hard for me to link up and talk to people, but I think that's partly due to me picking a shitty hostel where nobody talked and me being socially anxious. If you're comfortable going out of your way to meet people I think you'll have a much better time.

Also as I mentioned before there's a lot of other quaint towns like Lübeck all within a 30-60 minute train, perfect for day trips.

I got a good private room for 100 a night. Hostels were cheaper around 40. I booked last minute though, so my prices were also more expensive.
The harbor was very cool to look at, personally. Lot of industrial stuff, but it still has its charm.
Lots of places in Germany are close by so if you don't end up liking Hamburg, the next town is only a couple hours away.
If you plan on using transit a lot there's a Germany-wide transit (Deutchland tickets) that covers all buses/subways/trams/regional ticket for 60 euros/month, check the fine print for when you have to cancel your subscription to avoid paying for the next month. However this ticket does not cover the long distance high speed ICE trains.
I haven't done the math on how much this ticket is worth it, but it's been convenient for me.

I've met a lot of Germans whist travelling over the years but I've never been to Germany itself. The men often seem cucked into oblivion. I've been thinking this, I think both evolved over a long period to be high IQ, follow orders, value certain things like Harmony, beauty and order. Remarkable similarities. I think I do not clearly understand your question. During night time (after 1am) and weekends there will be less trains. ICE and local trainlines are different tarifs. You will be heavily fined and it is a criminal offense to go without or with the wrong ticket. Also DB security is just waiting to beat you up. Expect delays, as german train system is fucked up at least for the next 5 decades. You could buy a daily ticket but it costs more than half of the Deutschlandticket. Better rent a car if you have a credit cart and driving license.
