Going there alone this December to skip Christmas for a year. Renting a place near the nature with a swimming pool, spa, sauna and such. Just wanting to get away from everything for a little while.

I caught tonnes of cabs around Jakarta shit is cheap as fuck anyway and no-one ever tried scamming me unlike my experiences in Thailand. Have fun bud.

My luggage stayed in the guesthouse - there are so many freakin guesthouses in northern Laos, you can hop off a transport van and check in anytime, then flag down another van when you're ready to leave. Temps are mild and dry in midwinter there, so walking 10-20 km at a time is not unpleasant apart from the dust and the dehydration. Sumatra is on my short list of new destinations for this winter. Sumatra or Vietnam. Tough choice.

Just come back from 3 weeks in Indonesia. Started in Jakarta then crossed Java before going to Bali and Flores/Komodo. Original plan was to travel Java by bus and train but mostly did domestic flights as it was far less hassle and saved time and days. Their flag carried Garuda is goodJakarta doesn't have much to do, probably worth a day or two at most. Boring place. I heard the nightlife was good but never tried it. Yogyakarta is the best place on Java for sightseeing, especially Borobudur and Prambanan Temple. Don't fall for the sunrise/sunset tour meme, they open after sunrise these days so you only do it from a distanceBandung and Semarang are each a daytrip at mostSurabaya was okayI enjoyed Bali a lot, it has good nightlife and lots to do. I was there one week but wish I had spent more timeA trip to Komodo is worthwhile if you're interested in them but will likely take 3 days - you need to fly to the neighbouring island (Flores) and then the following day can get a boat to Komodo. You'll then probably only be able to fly back the following day unless you rush things. There is nothing at all to see or do at Labuan Bajo, it's just for getting to KomodoMajority of tourists there were Europeans (Britbong here) with some Australians, Chinese and Jeets on Bali but less than expecting - might not have been the season for themIf you're white expect to get a lot of attention, especially in Jakarta.
