Is 32 years old to old to stay in a hostel?
>>
>>2811071
There are plenty of people older than that in hostels.
>>
>>2811074
You're right and I'm probably just stressing out of the fact that I'm getting older. Just don't wanna seem out of place in the party hostels.
>>
>posted it again award
How many do you have at this point OP?
>>
>>2811092
we need to get a pinned sticky at this point
>>

We already have this bait demoralization thread go post there and stop shitting up the board

Don't be a creepy sex tourist and no one will care
>>
I met a guy that was 35. It's mostly leftist americans that care about age
>>
>>2811120
You retard. I don't stay hostels because I can't afford to stay in a hotel, but because it's the easiest way to meet people.

Do you even travel
>>
>>2811071
Not this shit again.
>>
>>2811120
Not OP, I don't struggle financially but still stay at hostels sometimes when the extra cost of a hotel doesn't seem justified. (i.e. I arrive late in the evening and leave early in the morning, or the hotel costs like four times as much as the hostel). I only do this for short stays though, as I'm not prepared to put up with the lack of privacy for prolonged periods of time.
>>
>>2811120
kys you dumb boomer

(I saw this as a wealthy 30 something year old)
>>
>>2811071
No, ffs. You get a private room, spend 2 days doing excursions and meeting up, before then moving into your Airbnb.
>>
just stay at luxury resorts
>>
>>2811071
Sort of, in the sense that hanging out with 21 year olds and their silly behavior and going out "clubbing" until 4am or whatever should be kind of hard for you to get too worked up about
>>
>>2811177
What's the alternative though
>>
>>2811071
At 32, you should have a wife and kids to travel with
>>
>>2811071
I don't like sleeping in a cuckbox. Simple as.
>>2811074
Those are the boring hostels. No conversations in the dorm because somebody is always sleeping. Three Ukrainian draft dodgers would buy beer and blast Ukrainian music on the TV in the common area every evening at 5 PM. The dorm door was actually soundproofed.
>>
>>2811149
A hostel with plentiful cheap private rooms is a hotel with a dormitory and a kitchen. I stayed at one such place in Warsaw. It was all right, but the pretty girls never hung out in the kitchen or common area because they were all getting dicked by TravelChads in the private rooms.
>>
>>2811908

Uh no thanks

>>
>>2811071
also contemplated booking hostel as 29 years old incel (as it gives me >0% chance of even meeting and talking to women during my travel) even though i can afford own rooms but:
1.) with multiple people in the same room how to get consensus that we turn off the lights now and not "later" and we all go to sleep? Sometimes its hard even with 2 or 3 people in the room if one person wants to sleep and another wants to read, how to achieve it with multiple people?
2.) What if i have to piss in the middle of the night and dont want to wake up people? Its anxious decide it has to be last time i am laying down on bed and from now on we dont get up to piss, but if i had to piss anyway i would say to myself i dont really need to for now and i can wait, not wanting to wake everyone up - and finally i would not get a second of sleep for the entire night because it would make me so anxious.
3.) What to do if people around are really loud and i cant sleep? Or for example - people outside my window are really loud at night for no reason? I live in really quiet, rural place so i am accustomated to perfect silence during my sleep.
>>
>>2812001
Not sure if this is bait but the answers really depend on how many people and how brown or retarded they are
Also really depends what time of year it is, what hostel it is and what region but its pretty common for some fat ugly bitch to turn the lights on and make a ruckus packing her bag at 3 am. Its also pretty common for the hostel to have a club or some sort of loud alley way or traffic noise outside the window. You could always pee in a bottle, or you just try to be as quiete as possible.
If you happen to have some reasonable bunkmates you could probabaly say something like "lights off at 11 u wankers hehe" and if theyre cool they will comply
If people are acting really urban you can always just say some shit like "yo dude were all trying to sleep, plz respect the room" and hope they dont chimp out and steal your bag
>>2811908
>wife and kids at 32
You already know who I am going to blame for destroying my community and steering me onna path of destruction in my 20s
>>
No, but also kinda yeah.

But since you have to ask its definitely a yes for you.
>>
>>2811101
Honestly, I wonder if it's not better that way.
I could share my experience as someone who has the same age as OP, but what would it bring to me? If more rookies on nu-/trv/ are demoralized to sleep at hostels, it means more availability for me to book something at the last minute in case of a mishap, and less boring 4chuds to share my room with, less uptight insecure people who will complain about someone smiling to them and trying to chit-chat during breakfast later on here.
It's a win-win for everyone. Anyone who doesn't have the guts to simply book a night in a hostel on /trv/ for whatever reason shouldn't stay in a hostel, simple as.
>>
>>2812076
>gatekeeping on /trv/
There's like 20 people on this whole board nigga
>>
>>2812001
1) hostels usually publish quiet hours / lights out times, they're not usually super strictly enforced and people will often act as if they're a bit later than they really are but those are the pre agreed consensus times. so if it is quiet at 2300 you kind of half expect lights out at 2330 in reality. some chuds get really upset that it isn't a morgue at 2301 but that is life in a hostel. bring an eyemask and avoid party hostels if you want early nights
2) if you gotta go you gotta go. try not to disturb anyone but at the same time just get on with it. i guarantee on your first night someone will get up at 4am and do a loud stinky shart and go right back to bed without a second thought while you are having kittens about the mere possibility of needing a pee. don't worry about it.
3) if you're from deep rural parts then a hostel environment will be extremely noisy for the first few days even with the most respectful dormmates. you just have to get used to it

biggest dick moves in hostels: snoozing your alarm, packing your stuff at 4am because you have an early flight (do it the night before). people with space cancer who can litter a room with possessions from one small backpack. don't do those. shout out to the lady with unmanaged sleep apnoea who snored loud enough to make my ears ring
>>
Dude at a certain age, for me cut off 25, you'd not want your own room with your own shower and own sink? As if I want to share the toilet! I want to walk around naked in my hotel room ffs. I want to jack off in my room after intensive hikes. I want to cum in my toilet bowl without a care in the world.
>>
>>2811071
You should probably stay at home and get a job so you can afford a resort, bozo

The whole premise of the question is asking for gatekeeping, it's begging for it.

In most hostels I've been to, there is always at least one middle-aged guy, last time I even befriended an Australian guy who was in his early 70s (super healthy tho, I thought he was in his 50s). As long as you don't go to touristic places where college dudebros binge-drink on the beach during summer, nobody gives a shit.
Americans have this unhealthy cult of youth, "oh no I'm 22, my life is over now", a youthful vivid life consisting solely of posting videos on TikTok and not being financially independent, you people are fucked in the head. Old people have interesting stories to tell, unlike 22 yo kids.

Then there are people who say "there is a hard threshold, once you are 24, you want your own hotel room for such and such reason", well perhaps, or perhaps not.
I can't afford a solo hotel room in Europe every night if I want to travel for a long period of time, so I share a room with a snoring old man, and I don't care. In the morning, I can befriend people and sometimes it leads to interesting situations, or I end up going places I didn't plan to go to.
The only real problem is when you start flirting with a girl and both of you want to have sex for a night, I had the opportunity last time but messed it up because I didn't want to bother the rest of the hostel. I could've rented an hotel room for the next day, but by then her feelings faded away and we only remained friends. For me that's the real downside of hostels.
Otherwise hostels are a good opportunity to meet interesting people. Some people even stay in hostels for long periods of time, have a job and all.

>>2812160
>I want to jack off in my room after intensive hikes.
You do it in the shower in between check-out and check-in times, when most people already took their shower and are outside or eating. As long as you are silent and aren't taking too long, nobody cares, it's a shared secret that everyone does it.

Absolutely. You're 32, grow up. If you stay at a hostel you're a creepy fuck. Especially if you try to flirt with a female, in a hostel or anywhere. In fact, don't even talk to anybody. Your life ended at 30, now the only thing you're allowed to do with the remaining 50-90 years of your life is to be bitter and resentful, with maybe reminiscing over the days of your youth when you were still young and stupid at the ripe young age of 25. Now it's all over. Forever.

People with wives and kids don't travel

>>2812469
How about stop shitting the board with this incel trash
>>
>>2812001
Decent hostels have curtains, and nearly all hostels have bunk lights. If you can't handle noise, you're gonna have to rape your ear canals with a pair of earplugs to get peace & quiet. In general, you can expect to sleep poorly in a hostel...which is why so many people stay in bed until 10 or 11 AM. If people are being loud or drunk in their bunk playing TikToks on their phone during quiet hours, ask them to "Please quiet down, people are trying to sleep."
>>2812046
More common is late arrivals checking in at 2 or 3 AM. One place I stayed at was giving out invalid entry codes for the dormitory door, so I had to get up half a dozen times throughout the night to let people in. Each person I let in wouldn't think of getting up themselves to let the next person in.
>>2812259
Jacking off makes you less attractive to women by reducing your sexual energy. No, it's not normal to thrash your meat in a shared shower.
>>2812160
Absolutely agree. I don't want to walk into a toilet stall reeking of someone else's rancid boozy shit first thing in the morning. Seeing chicks walk out of the unisex shower in towels or undergarments is nice, but the shower stalls rarely have shelves. Don't leave your phone or wallet sitting on your bunk like a dumbfuck, easy pickings for anyone.
>>
>>2811090
>>2811102
Pretty much this.

I realize this thread is just bait and trash, but in every hostel in the world there is always at least one small cluster of frugal middle-aged-or-older European backpackers. Usually Germanic—Germans, Dutch, Scandinavians. Like most fully-grown adults, they generally prefer private rooms to dorms, although if they’re traveling in a small group, as they usually are, they’re probably bunking together in a “private” room with three or four bunk beds in it. They may be loud and gregarious in the kitchens, and the men will often spend time in the bar/lounge/common areas hanging out and guzzling beers with backpackers half their age. The womenfolk drink less but may talk more. All of the above will tell you about their itinerary in exhaustive detail if prompted. If you don’t engage with them they are most likely to keep to themselves.

They are also sometimes found in party hostels, although this is more common with pairs or groups of men, or individual men, than with the more typical mixed groups. They are great to drink with if you can hold your liquor, and don’t bother anyone unless they’re actively skeezing on teenagers.

Stay wherever you want, don’t be a sleazebag, and enjoy yourself.
>>
>>2811071
no, fuck you

ur only old if u have an old way of thinking
>>
I'm hoping to take a year off next year and backpack around Europe, I'm planning to use hostels, what do I expect to see? (I do a lot of research and typically pick the highest rated stuff) Am I going to see european solo travelers? (in their 20s) or a bunch of jeets/arabs/nogs? (or just the, you never know what you'll see type of thing)
>>
>>2811071
No, if you are an interesting person and social then younger people are glad to have your company.

You need to be aware when you are not welcome, however. Every hostel with mixed age groups has problems with (usually brown) older creeps loitering around not participating but just being present and obviously acting predatory towards the most vulnerable young women.

Don't rush to tell young people they are wrong about things. They obviously are wrong, but they need to learn and figure it out through experience how you did. Just try to get along and show them stuff they wouldn't have found normally, be the experienced one with the lore and the connections.
>>
>>2817281
From my experience, most people in hostels are either traveling on a budget or remote workers. 9/10 are really chill so it's really just that 1/10 that have undiagnosed sleep apnia, walk into the room sloshed at 4AM, don't use headphones. Most people are in their 20s, but there are also a fair share of super chill retired people who decided to travel the world instead of rotting in a retirement home. Just make sure to check Hostelworld before you booking anything and read the reviews.
>>
>>2811071
Your 32 and still can't afford a budget hotel? I'm only asking what everyone in the hostel is thinking.
>t. Oldfag who quit hostels at 30
>>
>>2812606
>I realize this thread is just bait and trash, but in every hostel in the world there is always at least one small cluster of frugal middle-aged-or-older European backpackers
Yes. It is legal to be old and stay at a hostel. It is theoretically possible. That's hardly the question. The question is, do you really want to join this small cadre of poorfags? And at what age is considered joining these desperate weirdos?
>>
>>2817307
I'm still studying
>>
>>2817294
that was essentially my game plan with hostelworld. I mostly just want the flexibility to do my own thing but also meet some interesting people along the way, preferably europeans or latinos
>>2817307
does anyone truly give a fuck as long as you don't act like a straight up creep in there?
>>
>>2811071
I'm going to say no for 2 reasons:
1. Youth hostels usually have 35 as the cutoff
2. I've met numerous women in hostels between the ages of 28 and 33
>>
>>2817294
also, would you say what, 9.0 and up? or 8.5 and up and you said be safe?
>>
>>2811071
No if you want so save some money, but at that age maybe you should consider staying in a hotel insetad.
>>
>>2811071
If you have a full head of hair that covers your forehead, sure
>>
are there ever really any super good looking women in hostels? or do you just see that hipster feminist travel life type in there
>>
>>2811071
From experience no. I've met plenty of people older than that.

In Japan, some companies will book hostels for their employees that need to travel for work related reasons (albeit that's way too cheap imo)
>>
>>2818296

Bruh, you seriously going on holiday for the sole purpose of scoring?

If that's what you're really after, book a party hostel. Just don't expect to get decent sleep of any kind

I would unironically start a fight with you if I saw you in my hostel. 32 is disgusting in a hostel. I'd at least stir some rumors so people think you're a pedophile. You'd wake up one morning, go to breakfast and wonder why no one will look at you. Why people get up and move away. I'd be staring at you though, slowly stirring my coffee. Fuck off to a hotel creepy old fuck.
>>
>>2819547
I'm just asking if there's any decent quality in there or it's all scuffed looking degen looking people like you.
>>
>>2811908

>>
as a 21 year old I enjoy asking oldfags at hostels what they study or what university they're at then act shocked when they sheepishly admit they're 30-something lol
>>
>>2811071
I quit hostels after my teen years personally, it gets pretty cringe once you're out of gap year before college territory
>>
>>2819557
You are a retard who obviously never travels. I've stayed in hostels on four continents since my first hostel stay in 2020 (as a 26 year old). Old people in hostels are a very common sight these days. I'm talking 50s and even 60s. What doesn't happen is sexual harassment or lovemaking in hostels. Traveling couples sleep in separate bunks. Only when ample quantities of alcohol are involved will you see the inhibitions break down and people start doing whatever they want without caring what others think. I stayed at a hostel in New Orleans where a drunk fat Swedish blonde basically put her face in my face wanting me to kiss her. When I did, she shook her head "no, no, no" and walked away. What can I say, I hate kissing. The next morning, she took a messy drunk shit and then realized the shared bathroom was out of toilet paper. So she grabbed the soft fluffy hand towel and wiped her ass on it, then hung it back on the rack. Disgusting bitch.
>>
>>2811071
I think I'm the only person younger than 50 in the hostel I'm staying at in Athens rn
>>
>32yo
I think you're fine in most places.
Its the cheapest way to travel.
Just accept that you might get some social rejection at times due to age gaps, so you have to be prepared to do solo stuff during the day, and even solo nightlife at times.
But at a hostel with bumping fun vibes, being age 32 should be any problem.

Depends on the country somewhat as well, as more expensive and/or isolated countries (like China, Japan, Europe) will tend to have more older people.
Whereas pure party spots like Thailand will have more young people, so you will be more out of place unless you are prepared to fly solo.

Even met some like 70yo guy solo traveling, and everyone was interested in his stories.
On the other hand met some 50yo guy who was just dripping with all sorts of negative emotions like loneliness and envy, so people thought he was a bit weird.
>>
>>2820794
>I think you're fine in most places.
>Its the cheapest way to travel
That's why it's not fine. If a 32yo has to pay $8 a night for a hostel at that age. Lock in. No time for vacations yet.
>I met a 94yo man with a colostomy bag in a hostel
Why do people always say some weird example? Was he snorting coke off a 19yo girl's stomach? Was he teabagging a bro for a joke? Or was he shuffling around getting pity smiles from people.
OP, lock in nigger. You don't have time for vacations. Sort your life out.
>>
>>2811071
yes grow up
>>
>>2820809
8$/night is SEA tier, and OP should probably avoid SEA like I said and go to more expensive countries
