Borscht.
I tried it in Poland and I was expecting a lot since its the national dish of Ukraine or whatever, but it really doesn't taste good. It's like warm beet juice, what's the point?
Pic related, it's the borscht

Ramen
It's utter slop, yet weebs rave over Noodles, Japan like it was some amazing gift from heaven.

You need to find an actually good fish and chips shop that batters a whole fucking fish filet, something like pic related.
Find some British man in a bar and ask him what the best local fish and chips joint is.
>>
>>2814195
It looked exactly like that, unironically the one of the worst meals Ive had traveling and at an exorbitant price.
>Find some British man
And demand my quid and pence back before asking him where the French resturant is at? You know what, fuck it, I'll just get a flight to Paris and eat there...
>>
One of the best: random cafe in a random suburb of Paris. Would go back just for a food tour.

>>

If you didn't like Ramen, you went to the wrong place son.

The correct answer to this question is pizza in Italy. They serve it with the crust soggy, uncut, with crushed tomatoes as sauce and with one blob of mozzarella cheese in the middle and a 3 basil leaves. We tried so many highly rated places in Italy and they were universally terrible. Your average NYC pizza joint shreds any pizza you can get in Italy and it's not even debatable.
>>
>>2814216
>We tried so many highly rated places in Italy and they were universally terrible.
Restaurant ratings (including the Michelin meme) are complete nonsense in genral, but in Italy, they are even more so than any other country I've visited.

Thankfully, most Italians are fully aware of this. Hence, your best bet for finding good food is just asking the locals directly.
>>
>>2814158
Agreed, other noodle-based dishes such as soba, yakisoba, etc. were all superior. Ramen is meh at best.
>>
I was really big on "eating like a local" in every country I visit. But man it was fucking hard in the Netherlands.

>look up iconic Dutch meals
>"omg you HAVE to try the Stamppot!"
>it's literally mashed potatoes & meat
>it's not terrible, but I've already had this
>try other Dutch meals
>it's pretty basic stuff that I've technically already had

I will admit that Dutch cuisine really shines in snacks. Kroketten, bitterballen, stroopwafels, etc., at least it's tasty and more importantly, distinct.
>>
>>2814158
Ramen is Chinese anyway.
>>
>>2814246
You do know BBQ was invented in 1,124,307 BC by M'tugu in what is now South Sudan, right?...
>>
>>2814213
Okay good to know, I won't base my opinion off of that then. I have a Ukrainian interpals friend in Kyiv, I've met up with her in Krakow but one day when things are peaceful I need to go to Kyiv and have her show me real borscht

I didn't think currywurst itself was bad, I just thought the amount I got for how much I paid was disappointing.
>>
>>2814239
....And that's what everyone always says when you hate the pizza in Italy. "Ask the locals" And so you take a few suggestions from the locals and you end up eating the worst meal of your trip. The locals only eat at the cheapest places because they're all broke. I ate pizza at least10 times in Italy and never had a decent pie until we ate a New York style pizza place in Venice called L'Angelo.

I found the food in Italy very bland. It's probably a great country if you're a picky eater because they're deathly afraid of spice or variety.

There's two equally popular variants in Poland, barszcz czerwony and barszcz ukraiński. The former is clear fermented beetroot juice and is meant to be eaten with mushroom and cabbage dumplings or a croquette. It's often just drank from a cup along with nibbling the sides.
The latter is the borsh you're thinking of that's a proper soup with loads of chunky vegetables and a dash of cream.

You went to a tourist trap didn't you? Probably frozen chips and overly dense batter. 9/10 a takeaway will give you better, there are very few full on restaurants that'll do a proper fish and chips. There are some gastro-pubs that can do a phenomenal one but they're rare. You've should also try it with salt and malt vinegar.

If the fish is undercooked, then it will have a nasty rubbery texture, and the breading will be likewise soggy. I've had some really shitty fries before as well. Mealy, dry and difficult to swallow - like they were cooked a week before being served. I LOVE me a crispy fried fish fillet with properly fatty fish inside, but I had some pretty shitty fish and chips at a Chinese night market in Seremban, Malaysia, served with that disgusting sugar-laden imitation mayonnaise that Asians love. (I've even had an Asian pizza which had entire spoonfuls of the shit smeared across the bread, which was completely white on the bottom. Fucking disgusting.) This is all the fault of the cook, not the fault of the dish.

Japanese food is by far the most overhyped. I'm genuinely not sure if it's just because I spend half my time on an anime imageboard but I would be led to believe that it's the greatest cuisine on earth while in reality it's really fucking boring slop.

The only thing that's genuinely good is sushi and it's fucking raw fish on rice lmao.
Everything else is either extremely bland with barely any flavor or deep fried and covered in weird sugary sauces that are not even tasty.

East Asians don't really eat beef that much regularly. Sure they have an interesting way to make BBQ but it's not really a staple diet or part of the culture.
Except for the Mongolians.

Korean BBQ in particular looks fake as fuck, it's a TikTok-tier trend that popped out of nowhere like 20 years ago. They didn't know what beef was before the Korean War. They love spam. Pretending these are BBQ cultures is a massive LARP.

They already have a million other dishes, seafood, kimchi, ramen, broths, soups, fruits, salads, different types of bread, sushi, spring rolls, now they are claiming to be the BBQ masters of the world, it really feels like the East Asians want to monopolize every single consumer trend fuelled by massive shilling on social media and weeaboo fags.

Ive been on the road longer, no crew, more existential, more despair, more everything. Living life on an edge beyond the world's, living the one people read books or watch movies about but never expect people to actually live out...and when their own friend or family member does they dont react with positivity....it only reminds them that their failed life was their choice, and every dream they had was within reach but cowardice and apathy kept them in mediocrity.

They eat like 3 dishes in Italy. It's noodles with red sauce, or noodles with cheese, or pizza. If you're an autistic man-child, it's a fantastic place to eat. No surprises with noodles and red sauce. Sometimes they get really fancy and add black pepper and a sprig of basil. Sometimes. And they have the worst bread and baked goods I've ever eaten. >Any other disappointing overhyped cuisine you've tried in the world?
Specific restaurants moreso than cuisine. I went to Argentina last month and went to a place that's gotten "mentioned in Michelin" (not sure if that's the Bib Gourmand thing or what) called "Nino Gordo" (Fat Baby (male)). It was 2X the price of the most expensive other restaurant that I went to, completely jam-packed, and the food was bottom-tier.

One was some overcooked salmon in a pesto sauce with a bunch of little slices of apple (I think) placed over it in a scale pattern. Underneath was what I thought were scallops but turned out to be cylindrically cut pieces of potatoes. The sauce was flavorless, the scallop was massively overcooked, and the deep bowl it was all served in made it hard to get the food out (the sides of the bowl interfered with gripping anything with the chopsticks). I get it, Michelin places pay attention to their presentation, and yeah it was "artistically" presented, but FFS you're supposed to make it taste fabulous too.

I got a second dish, and it was not much more than a slab of barely-seared veal between two slices of Texas Toast. The veal itself was good, but there was twice as much bread by volume as there was meat, and the bread was flavorless.

Total amount of food was barely enough for a meal, forget about feeling satiated. Cost was around US$80 for the "experience".
>>
>>2814150
I guess in "cuisine" terms, probably Taiwanese beef noodle soup. Also Taiwanese "lu rou fan" (braised pork rice). And pretty much anything else Taiwanese for that matter.

The beef noodle soup is just your basic beef noodle soup. Beef broth, soba noodles, and the cheapest shit-tier beef heel meat sliced across the grain so that it's not impossible to chew. Throw on some scallions and maybe some spicy oil, wa-la. I mean, it's beef noodle soup, what more can you really say about it? But people go around raving about this basic stuff.

And as far as the braised pork rice, it's some plain white rice with some pork grease slopped over it, maybe a few little bits of meat that somehow disintegrated into the pan of grease while you were frying it up to render, and then the really fancy places will -- get this! -- put a hard-boiled egg on top. Whole, not sliced up or diced or anything, you just get a shelled hard-boiled egg sitting on top for your actual protein content. I guess they cook the pork grease with some spices so it tastes like something Chinese. Such wow, much oriental cuisine.

Give me a nice General Tso's Chicken (invented by a Taiwanese IN CANADA because nobody in Taiwan could afford the actual chicken meat at the time) any day.

Unfortunately I found the food in London to be incredibly mediocre. Not bad, mind you, just not good. It's worse than pretty much any other big city I've been to, and a far cry from somewhere like NYC. I even have friends that had lived in London for many years when I visited, so it's not like I was just going to random spots and getting unlucky. I'd bet there are better chippies somewhere near the coast.

>cheapest shit-tier beef heel meat
Not in my experience. 120 TWD for a bowl in multiple Taiwanese cities included pieces of the best beef I've eaten in Asia. The broth and noodles, meh. Taiwanese food all has that same teriyaki onions sauce flavor, it gets tiring after a while. In general I've been disappointed by Chinese food. They love serving low-effort slop that has very little depth of flavor beyond onions and umami.

I’m convinced 99% of /trv/ never actually travel and are only looking for some sort of community online to complain about other cultures or people to strangers for internet points. Get told how my mouth has been rotted by 'not real food' and how it doesn't have enough sugar on it or some retarded shit. After that we went to a few places, all the time they'd just eat shit from greggs, basic bitch meals, and the most tasteful food we had out of anything was some turkish people making kebabs or tacos(for some weird reason). I think a "full english breakfast" is possibly the only thing that could tie in overratedness.

This fuckin retards need like some mexican breakfast dishes or some southern cooking to have any kind of flavor. I stand by my sentiment that the average bong is just too inebriated or hungover at all times of the day to care about decent food.

The way it's talked about from people I know in England is like that it just demolishes everything ever created for breakfast in the USA or world. I found Italian cuisine to be incredibly underwhelming. I was there for a month, not as a tourist but actually part of a work-study program so it was as authentic as it gets and I did eat out in multiple places and cities as well. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't amazing that it's always purported to be. The pizza in Naples was pretty bland, hardly any cheese. Noodles were more al dente than expected. Tomato and mozzarella as a dish is...what it is. Not bad, not good. Italian-American food is way better, I fear.

Worst meme food I've eaten was paella. I lived in Spain for years and knew Spanish food very well but paella is a specialty of the Mediterranean region so I never tried it (it's very looked down on to eat regional dishes served in the wrong region in spain). Finally went on a vacation to Elche and tried their regional paella dish and it was complete ass, both in the ingredients and the preparation. It's a lot dryer and more undercooked than you would expect. Like barely hydrated undercooked rice that's somehow also been burnt. Apparently the burnt part is considered the best part of the dish. Traditional paella also has snail and rabbit as its main ingredients but I didn't try that one.

Worst food in general? For sure the Netherlands & Flanders. Unless you go to Michelin star tier restaurants, most brasseries and restaurants sell frozen sysco crap that's just thrown into the deep fryer. They have perhaps the worst cuisine in Europe. "Traditional" dishes wouldn't be served in an American prison, that's how bad it is. I tried a traditional Belgian dish with coworkers once that was unseasonably, baked chicken drumsticks served with a ladlefull of canned apple sauce. Untoasted Wonderbra was available was available as a "side dish". If you want to see culinary despair, watch a Dutch person prepare their own "lunch"

That being said, Italian food is the best i've tasted beside us, but their desserts aren't very good.
They seem to rarely use chocolate, so it mostly taste like sugar and almond... i get they took those from arab cultures and it became their taste, but i don't like arabic pastries either.

Why are there always people who need to be told where to sit? You literally have a specific seat. I genuinely don't understand the antics that go on between attendants and dumb passengers every single time

You went to a tourist traaaaap you went to a tourist traaaaap hahahah

Chinese food is better in every way, it's just not cool or fancy or kawaii (however you say it). People are so dumb, they don't even taste with their eyes at this point, they taste with their social media feed. It tasted good to them before they even entered the restaurant regardless
>>
>>2814573
There's over 50 vastly different cuisines in China. The only one I'd consider shit is in Shanghai and around it.
>>
fondue in switzerland

literally just make cheese on toast at home and save yourself 50 euros

It‘s crap. Why anyone thinks cooking meat in a plastic bag is a good idea is beyond me. At first mention of the technique, I was very much intrigued. I tried it and realized it’s more of a lazy chef‘s technique utilizing a disgusting cooking practice than a magical reverse sear to perfection.
Just cook my steak properly or if you have to reverse sear it then add something with the process and do it on a smoker.

The fact that OP got 0 replies on curry wurst really says a lot about this site. Shit on weeb food >>2814158
and all weebs will come crawling out of their holes and defend it. Same goes for some Slav food. Borscht sucks. Dude is right
>>2814153

But no one can comment on curry wurst because I guess none of you travel. OP is right though. The curry wurst in Berlin sucks. That's because it's without the skin.
There is a heated debate in Germany who invented the curry wurst. People from Berlin will say Berlin, people from Hamburg say Hamburg and people in the Ruhr area say they did it. The curry wurst in the Ruhr area still has its skin and tastes completely different. Less slobby.
I hope that you've at least liked the fries. Americans don't understand fries with mayonnaise.
>>
>>2822677
Only nogs in the US put mayo on fries.
>>
>>2822677
>>2822708
On that subject I tried some Belgian Chips and they were dry and overcooked. The mayonnaise based chip sauce they use was god tier though.

Clearly you never eaten Real filipino food>>2822760
>>
>>2814195
I wouldn't go looking for it in London either. The best chippies are near beaches.

>>2814196
Anon's pic looked like shitty "gastropub" fish and chips. The kind of place you order a burger and get a four inch thick puck that is somehow undercooked and dry at the same time, and thick cut chips that burn your mouth.
>>
>>2818811
>Switzerland maybe
What the fuck are you smoking? Swiss food is mostly mid, they have a couple of very good dishes and that's it
>>
>>2822761
pagpag is not real filipino food
>>
>>2822788
Pagpag translates to white trash food and white food is not real food is it ? When are you gonna let go and stop being a faggot and actual try bicol and moro food nigger?
>>
Why are white niggers so fucking retarded holy shit
>>
>>2814158
Personally I love ramen but I get it if when people think it's overrated, weebs over hype the thing. But if you think it's crap in general, you're either eating the instant stuff or just happen to only have a bad bowls at some bad shops.
>>
>>2823448
Well it's like typical swiss food, you can get great versions of it but the usual shit is just a okay dish that fills you up. Not good, not bad, it's food and not fucked up.
>>
>>2823457
I get it. And I'm not saying ramen is some kind of delicacy, heck it's practically "junk food" if you think about it, but to call the dish itself "slop" is pretty insane to me.
>>
>>2814604
I will never understand having dirty feet like this. The only time my feet get even close to this is when I have been to the beach where footwear is detrimental. Otherwise, I would immediately wash them in this scenario. Dirtyfeetfags, explain yourselves. Do you just not care? Is it mental illness? Is there something else wrong with your dirty ass? You are disgusting.
>>
>>2823457
Is it true that they eat dog in Switzerland still?
>>
Mochi is somehow too sweet and the blandest dessert I've ever eaten at the same time
>>
>>2823484
Till the 1970s pretty much normal in some poor rural regions that got cut up from the rest of the world in winter, since everything got connected and roads get cleared in winter it's very rare. The herding dog(those are big dogs, 30-50kg) was a unnecessary eater in winter so if food ran low it was the logical consequence to kill the doggo and eat the meat.

You might find some really old farmer in the rural parts of bernese upperland, Grisons or Appenzell that still does it but it's pretty much a thing of the past and as good as non-existent anymore.
>>
>>2823600
Oh and I bet you find the exact same decision making up to today by farmers/trappers living in the super rural mountain areas around the Rocky's, Andes or Himalaya to name a few where simply heading to the shop in town is not a option.
>>
>>2823611
They usually put down meat for the winter. There's lots of hunting in rural America.

A chippy is one of those things if you say you didn't enjoy it 100 people will jump on you to say that you just went to a shit chippy and the chippy that THEY recommend will impress you. I will now join in.
>London
I don't doubt they have some good ones. There's some chippy's in my city that I swear by. Every one of them pales in comparison to the ones out in bumfuck nowhere right by the sea. If the option was going to my favourite closest chippy and one that's a 2 hour drive away next to some rainy dock somewhere I would walk to the furthest away one.

Bonus is places like this usually sell crab, lobster, mussels etc. if fish and chips just isn't for you and you know it's fresh.

Deep Fried Oreos was one of the most disappointing foods I've ever eaten. The breading was like in a corn dog and very bland. The rest was just like an Oreo that was dipped in french fry grease.

This is one of the comfiest things I've ever eaten and I urge you to try it again from somewhere else.

There's no point in deep frying something where cooking it will barely affect it. Deep fried mars bars work because the outer chocolate and caramel melt but the batter and the middle of it let it hold the shape still.
>>
>>2825657
That unironically looks and sounds really good

there's basically no nutrition in thali
the lentils are mostly water, same with the little curries, just water oil and spice with some veg that carries no protein
go get a nice tandoori chicken for 300 rupees
>>
>>2825771
Soggy ain't always bad. Crispy battered fish where the vinegar has soaked into a few bits of the batter, giving a little flavour bomb when you bite into it.

A good fish and chips is crunchy, fluffy, fresh tender meat that comes apart in your mouth when you're eating it. Packed full of salt, vinegar, lemon juice and tartar sauce if you want to go a bit posh.

Does it compare to like French or Italian fine dining? Definitely not. Is it extremely comforting, tasty, filling and a perfect accompaniment to a dreary day somewhere in the UK? !00%

you go there for the ice cream. the inside of that place smells so damn good after seeing the sea lions lol. I have a lot of childhood nostalgia there, havent been in a few decades so I don't know if they've gone downhill...

>Implying Karage chicken is slop
it's just fried chicken
>Iplying Teryaki chicken is slop
it's boring chicken covered in sugar
>Implying Yakisoba is slop
probably most bland stir-fried noodle dish in all of asia
>Implying Sunomono is slop
drowning vegetables in vinegar is probably one of the worst ways to serve a vegetable side dish in the world
>Implying japanese curry is slop
it's tasty because at least it has some interesting flavors in it, but if the claim to fame of japanese cuisine is curry then.... yeah
>Implying caramilized por belly is slop
they took it from china and made it worse by using pork belly slices that are somehow 99.5% fat
>Implying Takoyaki is slop
it's literal slop with a tiny piece of octopus thrown inside
>Implying japanese bbq is slop
even japanese people are preferring korean bbq restaurants in japan, so yeah
>Implying chicken fried rice is slop
I don't think I ever had chicken fried rice in Japan. but their fried rice dishes are extremely bland in general

even if it's not slop to you there is no reason for this cuisine to be as popular as it is, literally every country in that part of the world has it beat
