My manager is taking the hot new girl on the overseas work trip instead of me even though I have more experience and speak the language.

Take time off and go somewhere better than wherever they are going
>>
Why would you want to travel with your boss? Take time off and go on a binge or something

Speaking as someone who used to do a moderate amount of international travel for work, including to some really nice places, overseas work trips are usually at least a little overrated. Free ticket, awesome, perhaps some miles, great, maybe just a little thrill/endorphin rush from the act of traveling, if that’s something you experience. Best case scenario, perhaps you can tack some vacation days onto the end of the trip before you have to be back in the office.

But for most people traveling for most jobs, traveling for work is just work, plus jetlag. When I was going from California to various parts of Asia a few times per year, I almost always worked longer hours while abroad than I did in the home office, and rarely got to see much of my destinations beyond hotels and conference rooms. Some of the meals were great, but most of them were working meals, with colleagues or clients, so even being out for lunch or dinner, I was still at work and still had to be “on.” Then I had to go back to my hotel room and catch up on everything from HQ.

It can be fun. I’m glad I got to do it. But it’s nothing like going on vacation, and it can become grueling very quickly.

Who cares. Traveling for work blows unless it’s a conference you can tune out and go enjoy the local scene

I still find traveling for work extremely fun. Just a change of environment, some new places and food. Always welcome. If I can plan it so that I have a weekend in the middle of the work trip or take a couple of days of vacation afterwards then even better, but even if I can't, I fucking love traveling for work. I like my work though so maybe that's why, I just do something I like in a cool new place.

It also gets me so many miles and I literally have status with all three major airline alliances because I always optimize shit and choose airlines strategically.
