What are the best food cities in your opinion?
>>2816751Bemidji, MN
>>2816751didn't get enough (you)'s on /ck/ so you had to shit up a slow board with another bait thread
>this thread againUnironically if you're not poor, it's really hard to be the US Northeast since you can basically get any kind of food in whatever style you like to 1:1 abroad if not better in some respects.
>>2816751no thailand?
>>2816751No India?
>>2816751What puts Malaga above Cordoba or Seville? No Chinese cities.... Xian or Chongqing should be up there. >Tel Aviv>No Istanbul....>2 Canadian cities... >Nothing outisde the 1st worldI'm sure even London would put all those western cities to bed, too.
lmfao victoria who the fuck made this
>>2816751Philadelphia unironically
>>2816751been to victoriasure the food is nice8th in world? i duno what criteria they are using here..
>>2816847As much as I hate Philadelphia, they do have some of the best subs and pizza you will ever eat in your life. Once you've had good east coast pizza, you're ruined for other pizza.
>>2816751i know someone just put tel aviv up there so people would bitch about jews but when i worked in israel i had some of the best food i have ever eaten. even just the hummus was fucking spectacular. it made up a bit for most of the rest of the place being a shitholei love that mediterranean style stuff. beirut was pretty cool too.
>>2816751Stupid fucking list if it doesn't include New Orleans, Chicago, and NY.
>>2817010>new orleansTruly amazing cuisine. I particularly like the stale, shitty bread they use for the su...I mean 'po boys'
>>2816751Why would you list so many shitholes on a list titled "world's best food"
>>2816751>2. Tel Avivoy vey!
>>2816759This. Amd people.there are fat, which is a good sign
>>2816928Israel is like what if Middle East was just allowed to be chill and culturally grow somewhere. It has strong influences from Mediterranean, Palestine, Türkiye and especially Lebanon.
>>2816928i went to tel aviv it had very good food.they have the dispora of all the different types of jews to cater to, they have the arab underclass, they have all the americans to cater to.
>>2816751If price of food doesn’t matter then some big American city like LA or NY will have the best Chinese, French, etc food. Such list of expensive cities would be very boring though. Then if price/authenticity is taken into consideration every city from this list should be gone. People from Seoul fly to villages in Vietnam to eat. Hai Phong has better seafood than San Sebastian for 1/10 the price sold on every road every 50 meters. Also if you go to San Sebastian in 21st century it has the same culture as LA or Berlin or any other western city. So if you come from a western city you’ll not see anything new. Hai Phong is very different from Berlin, Seul, Guangdong, even from Hanoi.
>>2816751Quebec food is mid af, most places are tourist traps serving very average cuisine.Victoria ? Fuck off lmaoTel Aviv being second is a jokeMexico City was average too, the street food is good and then there's nothing else. The city is overrun by purple haired weirdos and american expats that ruined the city for the locals.Naples is below Rome for sure, neapolitan pizza is mid tier.
>>2817379Tel Aviv food scene is basically just less flavorful arabic food. Try comparing with Lebanon or Jordan and you'll see what i mean. The jewish cuisine itself is very lackluster. The food scene is diverse however.I do agree that Syrian, Iraqi, Saudi, UAE/Qatar/Bahrain and Yemeni cuisine are absolute shit.
>seoulWowie it’s the same 4 ingredients for the 10th time today so freaking epic.
>>2821586never been to korea: the post
>>2821597It’s gay
>>2821583I seriously don't understand the Victoria ranking. Like, the food is genuinely terrible? What could they possibly be referring to?
>>2821646They do meme rankings like this to drive notoriety. The top ten food cities are the same and have been for at least the last ten yearsIn no particular orderNYCChicagoNew OrleansSao PauloLondonLyonBolognaRomeSingaporeTokyoNaples, Paris, Hong Kong (which was easily top ten for a long time but no longer is), Sydney, San Sebastián (they got one right in the OP) and San Francisco are your runners upThere is probably an ultra elite tier ofChicagoNYCLyonSingaporemaybe London
>>2821731Holy normie taste buds!
>>2821731>No Indian food>No Chinese food>No Thai food>No Turkish foodTrollpost? Muh chicago pizza, muh baayyyyguuulll, muh bolognese.... are you 5?
>>2821736The best examples of all those foods can be found in those cities. You know maybe Istanbul or Bangkok has the absolutely best Turkish and Thai food respectively, but they are shit tier at everything else and they fall apart at the $$$$ high end.Meanwhile take somewhere like Chicago or especially Lyon and everything is outstanding. Every price range, every culinary heritage, every ingredient…they are such pressure cookers of competition that excellence follows.>>2821732Noooo where are my heckin meme cities like VICTORIA BC & SEOUL!!!! Downvote!!!
>>2816751>Victoria
>>2821747Have you even experienced the fine dining in either Istanbul or Bangkok? Meanwhile, you recommend freaking Lyon, a city that nobody has ever heard of. >everything is outstandingYeah, when you're stoned even fucking Taco Bell is outstanding. Burgers have awful taste in food.
>>2821747Lyon ruined food for me. Nothing anywhere else tastes good after that. After I got back I was made physically ill by eating American slop. I went to a farmers market there and the produce looked otherworldly with the vibrancy of color and form. I look at the tomatoes in my local supermarket and and just kind of sigh. It’s depressing the garbage I have to eat, even cooking for myself.
>>2822181>Lyon, a city that nobody has ever heard ofIt’s widely regarded as the gastronomic capital of France, if not the world. You must be trolling if you are talking shit about its food.
>>2822181>Lyon, a city that nobody has ever heard of.you have outed yourself, fren
Is Basque food really that good? Genuinely curious, I've never had it.
>>2816829>Xian or Chongqing should be up there.wrong
>tel aviv
>>2816829>No Chinese citiesI lived in China for 2 years. The food was depressingly bad. I ended up just eating McDonald's for the last few months. I am a very appreciative foodie. Love Indian, Thai, Ethiopian. I can appreciate everything and will try the weirdest food. But Chinese food is greasy slop. Lacks protein. Is difficult to discern wtf it is when you see it. Absolutely depressing slop. Bottom 10 list
>>2816829>ChongqingAnd you've got to be fucking kidding. Spent 3 weeks there. Fucking everything was a hotpot. And everyone was squeeling at the idea of eating it again and again and again and again. Fucking bizarre
>>2817010New Orleans has good food but the service is really bad.
>>2822436Wuh? Is there some ingredient or part of the meal im not seeing that would make this uniquely "Israeli" and not just a rip off "full English"
>>2822486don't be antisemetic
>>2822486unfortunately this is what passes for humour on 4chan these days
>>2822486That's Israeli. It has it's own uniqueness and touched. You won't find anything quite like that in "England"
>>2822194Yup, pintxos are great. Going to Bilbao, Donostia or Vitoria and just having the pinxtos+beer specials is every bit the culinary pilgrimage that a Singapore hawker center, Lyon farmers market or old school Chicago steakhouse is.They are best in San Sebastián, but Vitoria is pretty good too. Bilbao is not as Basque as the other two..much more industrial city.>>2822181There we go fellas. The spice merchant one trick pony hasn’t even heard of the best pound for pound food city on the planet>>2822437HK had it then lost it. The mansions are 3/4ths vacant now, a few gems remain but no city on earth is “playing the hits” like an empty classic rock FM radio station quite like Hong Kong.Mainland Chinese food is F tier shit. The best Chinese food can seriously be found at a Panda Express off an interstate in Pennsylvania or something. Americanized sugar chicken is at least objectively delicious and filling. And high end Chinese? Lmao seriously I think the best restaurant in all of mainland China wouldn’t even be economically viable in Fort Worth
>>2822705>And high end Chinese? They're just an alien race. Highend Chinese food is Giant Salamanders with rhino horn shavings
>>2822706This isn't an exaggeration.
>>2822436israelis don't eat meat for breakfast
>>2822182IMHO the only place that comes close is Chicago, and of course in Chicago it’s an entirely different vibe way more built around sole proprietorship and outstanding suppliers.Lyon is just where the best of the best hone and practice the craft. No memes, no bullshit, no trendy garbage…everything is done with an excellence that you just don’t find anywhere else. The institution of the bouchon is borderline sanctified imo. Nobody can match it and nobody ever will.
>>2822954unless you consider buttholes meat
>>2821731i live in nyc and while the food is good, its really really expensive. the cheapest street truck burrito i can find is 12$ before tax. its becoming unrealistic to eat well here.
>>2823119>farmers market in Lyon>produce stand is selling beefsteak tomatoes>they have one cut in half on display>solid fucking tomato meat all the way through, almost no seeds or pulpy juice>exterior skin is fragrant even a foot away from your nose>the color is perfectly red. Deep red. And consistent all the way around the fruit, no yellow splotches or off colored bits>no imperfections whatsoever, no bruising, no malformation>ALL of it was like this, every single piece of produce was flawless. I spent 20 minutes looking through the stand for a single vegetable that had an imperfection. Didn’t exist. How the fuck do they do it?
>>2823134Love of the game nigga
>>2823130how much is a taco though?
>>2822954great work sherlocki think for most people the pork sausage and bacon would be more of a giveaway though
>>2816751Well Gordon Ramsay said the best food was in Laos, so we should add Vientiane to that list.
>>2816751lol fk man.
>>2816787Dirty Indian street food thread!
>>2821731San Fransisco had some REALLY good food. Its expensive as hell though
>>2816751I agree with a lot of Americans in this thread. The whole world dunks on us for being fat but doesn't think we have good food? There's plenty of slop but America is a land of extremes. We have the worst of the worst and the best of the best of pretty much anything you can imagine
>>2823229laos seems to have retained a bit more of its leftover french colonial influence than its neighbours so its food is somewhat different. i recall there being some really cool boulangeries/patisseries and so on.i don't recall the everyday food being particularly special though. maybe i just didn't find it
>>2816751Lmao.
>>2823229he said that morrocan food was the best
>>2823432I had one of the best ham & cheese croissants ever at a French bakery in Vientiane. However, the Lao food scene for a single diner eating a quick lunch is lame and disappointing. The night markets near the waterfront are yucky compared to what you'll find in Thailand. There's a lot of boutique eateries catering to tourists, but they charge high prices. Overall, restaurants are more expensive in Laos than in Thailand, as everything is imported from Thailand (or Vietnam).
>>2823272The price scale is so skewed in America. In other countries, $10 gets you a good lunch, while in America $10 gets you peasant-tier goyslop. A brat in a bun is now $9 + tax + tip at the food trucks in my town.
>>2822437The language barrier makes it difficult to order good food in China. Their menus are always in Chinese text; they don't do picture menus like Southeast Asians, which make it so much easier to pick out the dishes you'd like to try. So yeah, you end up picking a dish at random and getting yet another bowl of pig liver and offal soup.
>>2823890I don't remember that. I remember him saying Laos and then Vietnam.
>>2824035The riverside night market in Vientiane doesn't have much if any Lao food. It's mostly random international stuff. What you want is the night market byThat Luang.
>>2824038Try pointing to what other people are eating if it looks decent.
>>2816751what kind of idiot came up with that list
Victoria and Quebec City arent even the best food cities in Canada lmao
>>2816751>san sebastiancroquettas and jamon iberico...?
>>2817272> Israel is like what if Middle East was just allowed to be chill and culturally grow somewhere.Jewish hands wrote this.
>>2817272And, pray tell, what is preventing the middle east from being 'chill' and growing culturally?
The high end is the great filter for these. Very few cities have truly excellent high end culinary options. You take Houston, OK I get it you got the strip mall thing which is cool I guess sorta like a walking hawker center (though it costs like 10x as much), but the high end there is functionally identical to a Coopers Hawk. It just kinda falls apart. And then on the other end of the scale there’s Copenhagen which has the high end but its so pretentious and frankly stupid that you’d rather just go to the Coopers Hawk. This how New Orleans stubbornly stays on these lists. High end New Orleans institutions are maybe not in the same quantity as NYC, Chicago or SF but they are every bit the quality. At any given time the best restaurant in New Orleans would be in the running for best restaurant in any city in the world. I can’t pretend to keep up with this enough to know specifically what that would be at this specific time but I know its true.
Just a horrible list all around
