I want to go to Jerusalem and also travel to Bethlehem in Palestine to see the birthplace of Jesus, but it is a bit hard to find information on whether that is safe now during the war. My elderly mother (she is a devout Christian) wishes to go to. Do you recommend against this idea?
>>2817645I think you'll be fine. When's the last time a religious tourist was attacked in Bethlehem or JR?
>>2817645Just bring a raincoat. It rains spit there.
>BethlehemI think my biggest issues with visiting developing countries is just how car dependant they areYou have all this amazing beauty and everything stinks, air quality is horrible, walking anywhere is a struggle and everything looks so depressing becuase every sights is ruined by a million cars.
>>2817645>Do you recommend against this idea?you will not be able to see even half of the sites you have in mind unfortunately. last i checked the river near the baptism is mined
>>2817843Why would you post this about Bethlehem? It's a hilly town of narrow winding streets. You absolutely can get around on foot...whether it would be wise to do so is another issue altogether.
>>2817860You can technically do a lot of things but it isn't pleasant or enjoyable. No idea when you were last there but when I saw it the entire town was lined with cars.
>>2817645I actually visited Bethlehem to see the tomb of Rachel but it's on the Israeli side of the wall separated from the rest of the city so idk what the Christian sites are like. However if you visit Bethlehem with a tour group with decent security you'll probably be fine.As for Jerusalem it's very unlikely you'll be attacked unless you start wandering deep into Arab neighborhoods so you'll be fine at all of the major religious places.Generally speaking your chance of getting caught up in terrorism in Israel isn't that high, it's lower than your chance of getting caught up in crime in a place like Chicago or St Louis. The bigger risk when it comes to traveling to Israel is that a wave of rocket attacks might coincide with your trip and you'll have to lose some sleep and go to a shelter.
