USA gov't says not to go there... well I'm going to cut through the bullshit and bring you guys the on the ground info the US state department is too afraid to give you so you can decide for yourselves if you want to see this beautiful border town. I'll report back later.

Then you guys can make your own choice if you want to visit or not.

Sabbatical did a video on this recently.
But he didn't go to Puerto Palomas.
Just other border towns.
It was an interesting watch.

Man, not even mexicans want to go there, not because it is dangerous, but because it is boring as fuck.
>>

I've been to Juarez and ojinga multiple times it's safe as anywhere else in the world
>>
Dude don't go I live in Deming, NM and it's not the kind of place you just waltz into. This is the kind of place you only go if you have a heart of absolute courage, which 99% of people don't...

Correct, Palomas is really boring. A dusty, decrepit, nowhere town. Picrel is some strays in the town park. I stopped by on foot in October 2018.

You're referring to Ascension. That place is fucking sketchy. An apple seller on the roadside said that if I go out drinking in the bars as a white man, I WILL be robbed and may be killed. The city made the news a few years back after the human trafficker thugs who run the town abducted and raped a local teenager. The citizens rose up as a mob, grabbed farm implements, and began rioting.

Last winter they found 12 bodies in an unmarked grave there.

Janos is safer. I tried to get an import permit for my van at the Santa Teresa / Geronimo border crossing in November 2022, but was denied it by a native female official who was clearly angling for a bribe. I did not offer to pay, and decided to continue west on MEX-2 toward the permit-free zone instead of south like I wanted to. Visiting Casas Grandes was tempting, but I didn't want to run the risk of encountering a police checkpoint without my paperwork in order and getting my van confiscated.

Forgot to add, while walking around in Ascension in broad daylight, some thugs in the park openly threatened me in Spanish before laughing together. Something like "that pinche gringo is gonna get his guts ripped out". All the migrants were completely cowled up and masked to reduce the change of any fuckable females being raped by the traffickers. They all had such fearful eyes.

The mountain pass on MEX-2 between Chihuahua and Sonora was scenic, but had an enormous number of overladen trucks. I had to recklessly pass over a dozen trucks crawling uphill at 15 km/h in order to regain the open road westbound. Only a few seconds after I completed that manuever, a convoy of eastbound trucks running their jakebrakes passed by me. Whew!

Agua Prieta is a nicer, more tranquil border town. Unfortunately you need a "Solo Sonora" permit to bring an American vehicle down MEX-17/MEX-14, but it's reportedly very scenic. Dangerous and infested with cartels, yes, but after monsoon the desert mountains should be all green and pretty as can be.

I told you... I went to cut through the partisan bullshit to eviscerate media scare stories and RIDICULOUS narratives.

Mission accomplished.

Hey sorry but I think the "London" "Paris" and "Prague" threads might be more up your ally.
