It's not that simple - the admixture is north african rather than middle eastern, but the places those genetics came from (probably mostly carthage and its descendant empires) barely exist anymore. Regardless, all of this predates the arrival of red peppers in europe

Southern Italians have always been darker than Northern Italians because Southern Italy was first colonized by the Greeks. They were the first to build major cities in Italy, like Syracuse.
And Greeks are darker (still, olive skin not brown) than North Italians.

Then on top of that some parts of Southern Italy got invaded by the Moors, so there is some admixture, but it's overblown. Mostly it comes from Greek genetics.

What do you mean by spicy food? Food with heat because of chilis/capsaicin? Or food with spices in it like from a spice rack? The two seem to get confused. Blacks in the US will complain if their food isn’t “seasoned” with “seasoning” which 90% of the time is Lawry’s seasoned salt (or some other brand of seasoned salt which they call “seasoning salt” or “seasoning”) and the remaining 10% of the time is Old Bay (which they call “obey”). I don’t consider this “spicy” I consider it salt. A lot of third world food has exotic ingredients that you can later smell coming out of your pee. Is this what you mean by spicy? Food with some heat from capsaicin is what I consider spicy and it’s primarily an American thing created by whites despite all those memes about whites avoiding spicy food (created by blacks because we don’t bury our food in seasoned salt). Yeah they like spicy food in SEA but not to the same degree as Americans. Chilis are native to the Americas too

My stomach can handle spicy food just fine. It's my large intestine that has gotten BTFO by processing degraded Third World food for months on end. The intestinal walls have gotten so thick and scarred from soaking up all the toxins that taking a shit in a 20 minute ordeal.
