I'm almost at 100 countries visited but never been here. Egypt is one of my least favourite countries because the people are aggressive scammy cunts. Is Jordan the same? I'm nearby and the flights are cheap.
>>2822299Never been to Egypt but been to Jordan. This was the last country I visited before the world shut down because of the chink virus. As a result, there weren't a lot of tourists when I visited.Overall I loved it. Amman looked like a shithole but quite safe. Jerash is an easy daytrip from Jordan by taxi. (or Uber) My taxi going back to Amman made a pitstop at a coffee shop and even treated me to a coffee and a snack without charging me.Amman to Petra is a straightforward bus ride. Surprisingly there aren't a lot of locals who pester tourists for souvenirs/camel rides. However, the only time I got scammed was by my hotel. I booked a highly rated hotel & apparently convinced me that breakfast wasn't included even though it clearly stated in my booking. It's also obvious that the owner was a lying cunt & liked to make up stories. I'd probably recommend staying near the entrance of Petra instead so either the Movenpick (pretty boujie tho) or Petra Guest House. Definitely don't miss Wadi Rum as well.So yeah, overall: not alot of scammers, mostly safe, great locals. Take note this was back in 2020 so things might've changed since then
>>2822299I was on a week long tour from Israel, there was one guy at the Petra Park that instisted I climb up a large rock to him and take a picture...and also pay monies, and buy a drink. Sure, whatever.Petra is big, the hike to get to it is pretty long, and there are other things around it that were pretty cool. I went rogue and hiked a valley away from everyone else, a valley of tombs....dont go in them after the first one, theyre all filled with bird and goat shit, literally 100% of them. I tried like 40+ (I was looking for treasure.)
>>2822299i met muslim girl from Jordan on dating app... one of the most beautiful girls i ever met...2 dates together and when i expressed my interest physically she told me she is "born against muslim" and doing anything "bad" with whitey like me is big no-no. At the end of meething she gave me this long warm hug and big smile... Then proceeded to ghost my while continuing to post online faceapped pictures of herself in not so modest clothing... Evil cunt
>>2822385>Evil cuntEvil incarnate. The devil takes human form. Could it have been?
>>2822372>>2822373This was much more positive than i expected. TY. I doubt there's many tourists rn because of Gaza. Unrelated to us but not in the normie mind
>>2822405Yeah, Ive never experienced anything like Egypt anywhere else, truly hostile. The guy that wanted money "claimed" the rock as his, it was beyond a rope that said "do not climb" but he is a local and officials there seemed to care. He had a tea setup, I rested there some, chatted a bit, bought a drink, took a pic, carried on. A woman went too but not as high, I dont think they made her pay anything. #NotEquality.Im glad I didnt catch some kind of lung infection from bird droppings.
>>2822407>seemed to careNot* care.
I went one valley over just as the hike up to Petra started, an entire valley to myself...felt like Indian Jones. One valley over, thousands of foreigners...pee-yew. No-thank-you.
>>2822299Nah, Egypt is only comparable to India.Jordan was fine overall. I moved mainly by local minivan buses and hitchiked around Akaba + the occasional Uber. No real issues there. Once some hag in a shitty store in the middle of nowhere in Amman tried to charge me a dinar for a bottle of water, I just laughed and left. All other stores, even those with no price tags, almost matched chain supermarket prices. Honest people everywhere, all cool. No nagging anywhere. That said, fuck Petra and fuck the hive of scum and villainy that is the surrounding shithole of Wadi Musa. And fuck the bedouin shitwipes in particular. Not a single honest soul dwells there. You will get hassled and ripped off mercilessly there and you should expect to get into heated arguments if you won't allow it. Every single business within 4km of the ruins runs double pricing, including the shameless supermarket with posted price tags in Arabic numerals.>>2822407They're squatters. They occupy all the good view points with their tea tents. There's even a sign opposite the treasury that literally says "You are allowed to go up. You do not have to pay anyone, you do not need a guide" but the bedu launch into horseshit lies for naive five year olds how "the evil shopkeepers put it up" and it applies to "the other viewpoint" (also squatted once you get there). They're all tolerated by the police because the officers visit to collect their share of the day's spoils - I've seen that with my own eyes.Although supposedly the number of angry e-mails the tourism ministry received had led to a purge in the last ~two years and all the locals were chased out, leaving Petra mercifully peaceful. Doubt it lasted long though.>>2822405I've been to Jordan in October 2023. The hotel owners were all lamenting how there's fuck all tourists there even though nothing's happening and honestly they were right. I had no problem taking pictures without a single soul in them in all the top spots in Jerash.
>>2822529>Arabic numerals???
>>2822529This is great to hear. Was really expecting just endless negative experiences. What are the costs like there? Comparable to what other country? Thailand I guess is much cheaper?Did you go to the Dead Sea?
>>2822644Pic related. The digit shapes diverged at some point in history. They use the eastern and western variant interchangeably in Jordan. I recommend memorizing those, they come in handy (such as getting the real price in Wadi Musa or knowing what things cost at a bazaar).Speaking of which, in particular fuck the faggot who runs the "Supermarket Normal Price" with three fucking thousand five star reviews on google all praising his honesty. His prices are actually triple the normal, but he buys his reviews off tourists via pressure tactics and bribery (your dignity for a goddamn $0.15 candy bar, which he claims costs $0.5 of course). Do not go there.>>2822646It's not Thailand, but it was still noticeably cheaper than Europe. I'm not really sure about hotels since everywhere was unusually empty when I went, who knows what's the situation now. Restaurants were... half the European price maybe? I once found a hilariously cheap local canteen in Akaba that was almost free, below SEA prices. Probably subsidized. Minibuses are usually 1 JOD per seat, Uber rides were something like 3 or 4 JOD for a ~15km ride, IIRC. Groceries I believe were pretty normal. What's expensive is stuff targeted at tourists. There's a Jordan Pass that comes with a visa and entry tickets to almost everywhere, Petra included. It works out cheaper than buying separate.Dead Sea is tricky, unmarked minibuses leave from a parking lot near a police station in Central Amman. They go to a village nearby where locals give people paid lifts to the shore. The guy will probably dump you at some outrageously expensive day pass resort. Go down the beach and you're guaranteed to find (presumably) squatters renting out canopies and a water hose shower for way cheaper.Alternatively, if you rent a car, there are supposedly 100% free spots near natural waterfalls a decent distance away that Jordanians use. Sadly the coastline isn't very accessible and washing off the salt is a legit problem.
