---WARNING----
If you are a foreigner, Japanese women will genuinely find you creepy if you are under 6ft 3 (195cm for all my third worldies here). I've lived in Tokyo for 8 years and Osaka for 2, and this has always been the case when I asked colleagues and friends about their situation for dating Japanese women.

you said this in another thread i was lurking on last week. why would you post the same comment? you farming for doping by posting the same post over and over again from a bunch of basement dwelling neckbeards? Find allah.

Plan on traveling back in the summer. I plan on buying stuff (cds, video games, figures, etc). Do I have to pay a fee for bringing them back to the US? Google Ai says yes, others online have mixed thoughts. Big help if anyone knows.
>>
>>2823244
In general for a customs fee, yes. But they usually only care about people importing luxury goods or prohibited items when you return to the US.

Japanese hotels are not made for "western style" tourism, they're made for business travelers first and then Japanese travelers. About 50-60% of all Shinkansen users are business travelers. Most hotels are designed for them for 2~3 days stays.

Long time Japanese tourism, as it exists is 5~7 day affair in grouped in clusters of Obon, Golden Week, Silver Week, New Years Period.
The rest is basically 1 day or longer weekends.
The Japanese almost never have 2 weeks or more of a holiday combined. So planing that far ahead isn't necessary.

This results in small rooms, hotels that don't need to plan ahead but plan for tourism season thats coming up.

Right now Japan is not built for International tourism. It only started getting big numbers in the 2015-2019 periods. Then all of it went to hell with Rona. Now they're rebuilding again.

Even with everything Tourism in Japan is still by percentage wise 70~80% Japanese in origin. And going by spent yet it's 75% Japanese vs 25% Foreigners. The biggest spenders currently being South Koreans.

Rains come and go. Tokyo has a sophisticated rainwater sewage system, so the water will clear out almost instantly when it stops raining.
Avoid lower land, do what you'd normally do, maybe take your least favorite shoes and pants.
They say that time gilds the memories - you'll be a bit miserable in the moment, but you'll look back on it thinking that it was actually a fucking amazing trip
>>
>>2823580
very nice pair on her. could be bigger but the ratio is amazing
>>
>>2823573
Look when I ask you this, and you lived in Tokyo you'll answer a specific way. If you're a old person it's one way, if you're a young person it's another way.
There tons of questions like these that instantly identify you as being "in the culture" and what jidai you're from or what mindset you have.

Like if you're a foreigner and you live in Adachi ku or Katsushika ku people are going to assume things. Just like if you told them you live in Tama Center or Tsukuba. If you live 8 years in Tokyo and you can't tell me stuff like this you failed at any sort of meaningful talk with any of your co workers or Japanese society at large.
When I told people I was staying in Tabata when I was a student they instantly assumed something.

>>2823574
It's a country built to withstand rain and the only thing that fucks up it up are mudslides and they affect remote railways or towns. I have no idea where you're going but if you're going to Tokyo. Any sort of natural disaster has 0 effects on Tokyo because it's too financially stable and important. There could be the biggest earthquake ever and next month you would be able to come and it would all mostly be repaired or there would be a replacement for what was lost.

This isn't Oigawa Railways where one Typhoon knocks out half the tracks for 5 years and nobody can repair it.

So yeah you saw some flood waters on X/Twitter and they're gone, they'll be cleaned up in about a week max if there any mud at all.

>>
>>2823587
Depends on the contract she has. But in the vast majority of cases not much. You're better off finding an event you can go to where she actually is or sells good related to her.

https://x.com/remu19971203/status/1965025407218184669

Like this Buy Max event shes holding.
These aren't some sleazy backdoor events these are much like idol events simply photography events where you can take pictures of her with restrictions.

https://x.com/remu19971203/status/1956711117041943013

Or this one where it appears shes just selling non lewd photos in Clothing store.
She seems to be Osaka based so you'll need to obviously go there.
>>
>>2823587
Eventually a little. See if she has some sort of direct donation or subsrcribe service (highly unlikely since it is Japan), meet and greet or similar. Support your idol, buy her merch etc

I’m going to Japan solo in December for around 23 days. Wondering what people usually do for accommodation when traveling alone.
Also, I’m deciding between Tohoku, Kyushu, or Shikoku for that time of year. For a solo trip in December, which of these regions has more going on? I'm afraid of the weather being kinda shitty in Tohoku
>>
>>2823593
You're going to need to be more specific.
What does most listings cucked mean?
>>
>>2823609
Tohoku in December has actual winter with shitloads of snow the closer you are to Aomori the worse.

Kyushu has a warm medeteranian climate so it's like warm, depending on year when I was there it was like 16~20°c at day and 6~8 at night.

For Shikoku let's say -2°c to -4°c compared to Kyushu

What I do is I find a nice big city, as close as possible to the Shinaknsen Station and then buy a Local JR Pass and explore via that.

Usually the rural places have nothing going on at night so it's better to stay in a more urban enviroment

https://www.jrkyushu.co.jp/english/railpass/railpass.html
https://www.jreast.co.jp/en/multi/pass/eastpass_t.html

Shikoku and Hokkaido are really the only two places where this doesn't apply as much. Especially Shikoku

https://shikoku-railwaytrip.com/pass-information/

Even from Takamatsu to Matsuyama it's 2.5 hours by train. Thats insane considering how close they are and most cities are like this. The big ones at least.

For Hokkaido it's better you can do Sapporo, Jigokudani, Hakodate, Otaru, Toya and Shikotsu, Ashikawa they're all pretty close.
>>
>>2823624
What is there to see in Shikoku? I would mind to spend most of the trip there, it is worth it or it's better to wait until the hotter weather?
>>
>>2823619
>more specific
I mean that most of the listed volunteer positions seem to be cucked (not good)
Like most of them are already filled or just not ideal volunteer positions say compared to other countries where finding some sort of random volunteer job on a farm or in some sort of (hippie type) communjty group thing where a unique experience could be had
So I am asking if anyone has any suggestions for finding some sort of unique volunteer type living situation
>>

Fly to LAX/SFO first and then fly to Tokyo from there in order to save money. 2 weeks is enough time to do the golden route of Tokyo/Osaka/Kyoto, but if you insist on only visiting Tokyo, then I'd probably wait until the spring when the weather nicer and airfare isn't affected by the holiday season.
>>
>>2823741
You may want to check out ZipAirline's website in November when prices drop. You will have to fly to Los Angeles LAX on a separate ticket but its still cheaper than 1800. Also the cheapest tickets are 2 to 1 1/2 months before your international departure.

I can't tell you honestly because I don't know what type of tourist you are. So far most people that I know that went there had two reactions.

>Nature Pretty
>So fucking boring nothin to do

If you're a weeb there a few sacred spots.
If you like religions there a Shikoku Pilgrimage of 88 temples that people used to and still do on foot about 1200 kilometers of it. Takes ages. You'll see them with their white coats.

If you like Gardens it has some.
If you like castles it has few.

It's mostly untouched nature, waterfalls and it's mostly good if you have a car it's absolute nightmare via Train/Bus as things come ever 1~3 hours.
There really no special food or anything they have good Udon but you can find Sanuki udon in Osaka...
So like its just scenic.

Honestly you'll get a teste of it if just go to Takamatsu the railway ride from Okayama is already scenic as fuck.

>>2823651
Only a few countries get a working holiday wise and not many of them, volunteering in Japan is a community activity in a city/district/village thing and they don't just bring foreigners from around the world to do it. It's a difficult culture. I'm not saying theres none but it's simply not a thing people do.

>>2823739
The only downside is the same as anywhere else honestly it's that the sun sets at 5 pm, so if you wanna see nature you better get up early.

I also don't know how you Americans are with weather for years on all forums I've been reading that Japanese winters are so cold and oh my god don't visit Japan in Winter and then I went there for 3 months in Winter nad it's fuckin 15°c a day and 7°c at night for everywhere but Northern Tohoku and Hokkaido. It got to 20°c on certain days.

Maybe it's because you're all used to central heating in houses or something?

If you're going with AirBnB prepare to heat with a split AC unit. If you're going to a hotel prepare for the hotel to cut heating when the card isn't inserted.

You can just declare souvenirs and a guesstimate on the price.
However thats if you even get a form, I havent received any on my last 2 visits but all I take back are souvenirs so i doubt it even matters
>>
>>2823872
Both Nagoya and Sendai are very car centric cities so you won't find many fun hubs or things like that there.

Nagoya is worth visiting for the Castle, Museums and Food but since you've been to Japan it's for a Tourist an inferior version of Tokyo and Osaka.
Sendai has an interesting compact city center but it gets less and less urban very fast.
It has some nice nature around it Shiraito Waterfalls, Sekiyama Waterfall, Fujihana Waterfalls
The coast around Matsushima has some scenic nature and islands.
The Hitome Senbonzakura is amazing in Spring but thats about it I think.
You got he big statue, you got various Dane Masamune stuff, You have Zundamochi and Gyutan and thats Sendai.

I will say however the city center around Sendai Station is great, tons of restaurants, ton of shops and malls, theres even a mini Akihabara with all the Important stuff like Animate, Belonbooks, Rashinban, Kikuyashoten is an amazing manga shop, they have Village Vanguard and the entire Gee Storelineup so Cospa etc...

A working holiday visa can only be obtained if you are under 30 years old, there are no restrictions on working hours like a student visa, and you can work full time.

Major express train times.

Ozora from Sapporo to Kushiro is 4 hours and 30 minutes SLOW
Soya from Asahikawa to Wakkanai is 3 hours and 50 minutes. SLOW
Soya from Sapporo to Wakkanai is 5 hours and 12 minutes SLOW
Okhotsk from Sapporo to Abashiri is 5 hours and 25 minutes. SLOW
Hokuto from Sapporo to Hakodate is 3 hours and 45 minutes. SLOW
Hokuto/Suzuran from Sapporo to Noboribetsu is 1 hour 15 minutes - Pretty good
Liliac from Sapporo to Asahikawa is 1 hour 25 minutes - Pretty good

And because trips take so long it means you usually only have a few in the morning and evening with non around midday.

But theres another problem that makes Hokkaido and Shikoku shit when it comes to trains. Very few of them are electrified. The interiors are comfortable but the noise and speed are Eastern European tier. How?

Well Japan likes MU trains so Multiple Unit ElectricMU/DiselMU. Locomotives are pretty rare for passenger travel. But one major advantage diesel locomotives is that they keep their noise at the front. There tons of disadvantages with locomotives but for you as a passenger there is a major plus and thats no noise. And it's not just that there motor engine noises it's that they change.

If you ride the Hokuto, Ozora, Okhotsk and Soya it will be loud here the entire trip on a few,:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njc501q5qu0

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WjycItbNa5A

But maybe you're a fan of that? So maybe it's a plus. I have around 100+ days of JR Pass and I've ridden almost every train in Japan but Hokkaido while unique doesn't feel that "Japan" to me. It's its own separate thing, nice to see and experience but if I had to use this often I wouldn't be happy.,

That one guy in the other thread that had towels and shit.

Again let me repeat do what the Japanese do.

Buy fast wicking clothes like Uniqlo AIRism, buy a hand fan on amazon or in Japan, buy fast wicking underwear, if you have long hair get used to it being wet.

You can buy shit like this https://soranews24.com/2013/06/28/stay-cool-guys-just-in-time-for-summer-we-find-the-best-deodorizing-sheets/

Japan does not sell western style old spice deoderants so get used to white stains from Japaense deoderants. They like sprays but they're all weak.

Language schools cost tons of money. Chinese do abuse this so most of the schools will be filled with Chinks you'll need to find a very specific westerner one meaning it's gonna cost even more. IF you actually plan to learn. They'll still require you to visit a few times so you're not "abusing" the Visa.

If you actually care about Japan there is other types.

>Cultural activities (Examples: unpaid internships, people studying the tea ceremony or Japanese flower arranging, etc.)
-It's like a job but instead you need a Japanese teacher to sponsor your stay in Japan. They'll need to submit like a training/lesson schedule, you'll need to write a letter explaining why you want to do it, history of practicing the art etc...
-You'll need to prove you have enough money to stay for 6 months while your learn the thing you're learning.

Designated activities (Long Stay for sightseeing and recreation) (6 months you can extend it to a year)
>Individual at the age of 18 years or older and has savings equivalent to more than 30 million Japanese yen (342,060.00 New Zealand Dollars) owned by you and your spouse

For me, those Men's Bio-re antiperspirant sheets were essential for an August trip. After the morning shower, wipe allllll over the torso and arms. Don't miss the lower back and upper chest or you'll feel the drips running down you.
I have a hand fan that has a lanyard, carabiner clip, and can fold- it can blow up at your face handsfree while hung around your neck. I took it with me the majority of days. Buy it on the first day, not the last.
Seconding AIRism as totally not a gimmick; don't go a day without. It fills with the sweat instead of your shirt, and then dries quick and feels amazing when you blast a fan up it. Then hopefully your actual shirt helps contain the lesser stink under it. Don't be that guy in the club with a clear ring around him on a packed night.
With those 3 things, you can be almost normal.

I'm kinda all over the place but I guess I wanted to take a more relaxed approach, not trying to speed run the island. Be in a city, trying to talk to the local to practice the moon speak, doing walks, trails, explore some temples and castle, onsens, see the local weeb stuff, try to go to a mahjong parlor, try the local food.
But I guess it's better to rent a car in Shikoku, I still don't have a driving license, I know it's kinda stupid but I live in a city that it's more trouble to own a car than to use other transportation. I will save it for a future spring/summer trip.

Right now I'm thinking of going to Northern Kyushu, the other alternative is Tohoku, but I'm afraid of the snow fucking up my trip. So I'll probably go with Northern Kyushu for about 20 days and visit Fukuoka, Saga, Nagasaki, Oita and Kumamoto prefectures.

Hey, anyone bought kansai pass or any similar regional pass? Ive been to Japan twice and both times Ive bought railpass because it was worth it, because it was few years ago. I know that now its overpriced. Im trying to find out how hard is to buy some regional passes while in Japan. I dont want to buy it beforehand through travel agency because i would prefer to stay flexible datewise. Ive read that you can buy it in some major rail stations and even some machines. Is it true? This time im mainly staying at osaka, if any anon got some info or expiriences to share I would be greatful.

Got last minute leave approved, heading to Tokyo this Saturday for a full week. Only 2 days to plan. Never been before, going solo (without my gf), so I want to make the most of it. I can do 30k steps a day and don't mind sleeping in pods, just want to maximize how much I see.

Looking at this map: https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1fmfaySQHmojbRGKWCwRecq6Ln1Bb2Xdh&ll=35.67928012473078%2C139.68638283648374&z=12 but I’m overwhelmed. Where do I even start? I want to see literally every non-food / non-shopping spot, especially cultural places, even small shrines like Hanabusa Inari that no one goes to.

Would it make sense to do one area per day? Like Shibuya day 1, Shinjuku day 2, etc.?

I was also thinking of sleeping in net cafes, but I'm worried about luggage. Don't care about dirty showers or the cum-smelling rooms, but I need lockers big enough for a suitcase. Any recs? Also if I switch hotels on a daily basis if I switch areas, wouldn't that mean I need to carry my suitcases around because checkout is before 12 PM and check-in is usually 3 PM?
>>
>>2824580
Why would you switch hotels everyday when you can just take the subway to literally anywhere in Tokyo?

Hi /trv/, I’m going to Japan again November, this time I want to rent a car to get to hard to access areas. I need fill out a form for an IDP correct? What was your experience with rental cars for those that have used it. Is there a rental car chain that you prefer using? I saw that you have to fill up gas with the attendant doing it for you, what do you tell them exactly to fill up? Just say 86 or regular? I’m planning to use a rental to reach places a train or bus can’t access, maybe I’ll plan a road trip too for the hell of it

From what I've been told it's best if you spend the night. That town is known for having temples turned into lodges, plus the cemeteries and Mausoleums stay open until late at night, so you get the best experience going overnight.

>>

>>
>>2824736
nothing to really "watch out" for but if you hate extremely crowded places full of tourists you're probably not gonna like dotonbori. i can't stress how overcrowded it is (last time I went to Osaka was in July) and you will see dozens of groups meandering around and getting in your way in pursuit of the perfect instagram/tiktok angle. it's not really like kabukicho where you have nigger criminals roaming around, at least not as openly

i will say dotonbori and shinsekai are both places where i've had restaurants try to pull the foreigner menu scam on me. especially with stuff like kushikatsu where you order multiple small items at a time, the foreigner menus often cost 5-10 yen more a pop. i only found this out because they handed me an English menu when I walked in and when I requested a Japanese one they didn't take the English back.

>>
>>2824749

Anyone know the best things to do for Halloween in Tokyo? I'm looking mainly to hang out at street parties to see other people's costumes and soak up the vibe. I'm open to other cool things if anyone has suggestions.

I know Shibuya used to be the main place to go, but as far as I know, that's been shut down as of last year. I hear there's a Halloween Costume Parade outside Ikebukuro Station. Is that the new go-to event?

I've also heard that Osaka is better for Halloween nowadays, but based on the way my trip is structured, I will have already finished my time in Osaka before the 31st rolls around.

Did a semester abroad in Japan in 2013. Best months of my life. I felt so free and independent. A whole great nation to discover with all the time I need. Making new friends from zero. Ever since I miss this high of life everyday. I've visited Japan several times after but it never felt the same anymore. I can't explain why. Traveling there for 3 weeks is nice and all but I even had the feeling last time that it was a bit too long. Is it because I've seen it all already? Is it because I unconsciously search for that young high again? Am I too old now being a wage slave?

Sometimes I ask myself wether I get close to that feel only if I move there permanently. Knowing that I stay and somehow I have all the time I need once more. No travel itinerary, just enjoy the day and life. But in reality after some time that glow would probably disappear again and reality kicks in in a society that is rather cold, very hard working and in constant threat of earthquakes.

The brain sadly works that way. I traveled all over Japan and that initial wonder of literally everything being new is always your strongest memory. The thing you remember.

I'm also having the same thoughts. I'm still here on 4chan posting about Japan while living outside of it and doing 3 months trips to it. All I do is read Japanese twitter and consume Japanese culture. The entire western media machine went to hell so I'm mostly just doing Japanese games, Anime, TV shows, Music etc...

When I go to Japan I feel like I'm the target audience.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DXvjwv_9yHU

I look at this McDonalds ad and I want to go crazy. The girl singing it is cirinos math classroom singer, the people behind it also did tons of touhou, half the video is references to Ronald memes from niconico and recently twitter. It's like a treasure trove and I am 100% the target audience. I want to go to the places in the damn music video and brag I've been there!

Everoyne says Japanese society feels depressing and their media is full of optimism and a bright future. Something 100% lost in todays western society.

>>

Please don't fall for this bullshit that public transit is packed or whatever. Yes it's packed at 8 am on a workday but trains come every 2 minutes. It seems you've never been to Tokyo, public transit is out of this world. Reliable doesn't even begin to describe it. If you come from the US or some rural area prepare to be flabbergasted by it.

If you look at that map of yours I think you notiecd that the guy grouped everything in like 5 minutes walk from the Station.

If you like walking I highly highly recommend this.

Get of at Tamachi station, walk to the Rainbow Bridge, Walk across it for a stunning view of Tokyo Bay, especially at twilight when the lights come on, then walk to Odaiba walk near the beach to almost Daiba Station then turn toward the Unicorn Gundam Lala Port, then turn again and then walk across the dream bridge to Ariake to see the Big Sight, you can then continue to Toyosu next to Ariake Tennis Mori or take the train there.

Haven’t studied there but I’ve been wondering about the same for life since I just turned 28. It’s probably the suburb life in America getting to me, it’s utterly boring and people aren’t very kind. I used to live in a more sububrban place like that as a kid now I live in a city here in Europe and I obviously can't say oh you're 100% right but I sold my car. I can get anywhere and everywhere with trams and trains at worst buses, if I need something fast theres taxi and uber and if I realy want to go somewhere only a car can go I can rent and all of it is far cheaper then owning one unless you go fishing every weekend or something.

I just don't like cars, I like to relax while traveling. I don't want to be actively engaged driving.

Thoughts on renting tiny Airbnbs instead of capsules? For a week in Tokyo, I saw that most capsules are ~$150–170/night, but if I bump up to ~$200 I can get a 1-bedroom Airbnb (often a spare room in a host's house). More privacy than a capsule, but farther out in many cases.

I’m currently in Japan and I hate it. But I also have to admit that I’m not a weeb like 90% of the people here. I just like traveling, and I had heard so much about Japan that I thought: once in my life I have to go there. I’ve never prepared so much for a trip. Normally I just book, fly, and then I’m there. This felt like homework—the vacation.

First of all, I find Japanese people super rude. So much for them all being nice and friendly. To them I’m just air. Really, every single time I have to step aside, and even though they see me from far away and they have plenty of space on their side—it’s not exactly busy or crowded—they still head straight toward me, and if I didn’t move, they’d just walk right into me. I even tested it several times and basically tackled a few Japanese people out of the way. By the way, I’m already walking on the side or close to buildings so that on my side there isn’t even any space to dodge. I find it so rude. The food also all looks like crap. Some kind of indefinable blob of slimy mush. I see the picture and have no idea what it’s supposed to be, and yes, I translate it, but that doesn’t help either.

I think there’s a lot of prostitution here, but how exactly does that even work? I’d guess they don’t understand a word of English, they take your money, and then three Yakuza guys show up and throw you out. I wouldn’t want to do it, but I always find it funny to read those kinds of experience reports.

That's the problem with the internet. Everyone loves Japan and thinks it's so amazing. I mean especially here. I've come to the wrong place but if I say something is shit people assume it must be bait or something. Of course everyone has to LOVE Japan.

I hate Influencers but I was seriously considering if I should make some videos of my Japan trip just as a memory for myself or something. I'm glad that I decided against it because every weeb will give me shit for not loving Japan.

It's like there is only one opinion allowed.

Also now you all >>2825051
>>2825062
just want to talk about the food.

What about the other things I've said like people deliberately walking into you or where are my funny stories where gooners got scammed.

About food what is that thing on the very right both bottom and top. Only thing I can make out are the tomatoes on the left. I have more weird food but only one photo per post.
Captcha wouldn't load anymore so I had to use a different browser. If I won't reply anymore then I won't get the captcha to work otherwise I'll reply during my trip. I'm open for any suggestions of what to do what's interesting and once again I'm no weeb. I just want to see the world.

Also like I said it's weird to be the only white guy for hours. I'm glad that I've learned some Japanese in advance but it's really a pain in the ass. I mean I was waiting at McDonald's yesterday because yes I had Japanese food but fuck it and I was the only person at McDonald's clearly a foreigner. Only order. Only person waiting. Yet they had to shout the numbers in Japanese. I mean they could have said them in English or figured it's the dude standing right in front of the counter. Anyway I've learned the numbers and could repeat them which isn't what they expected at all.
Oh also during the 13 hour flight I had a sick Covid ridden Chinese guy next to me blowing his nose and coughing for13 hours straight. Such people shouldn't even be allowed to fly im sick now

That doesn't answer the question of what any of this is. Also jokes on you but I'm not even American. I love Vietnamese food. I love Thai food but this stuff here is either millions of soups that don't stop your hunger or some goo or you have your meat sticks which will end up costing you a fortune if you don't want to be hungry anymore and just meat sticks isn't a proper meal.

I want rice, meat and some veggies and not goo or a soup. Also I don't know why it won't generate captchas and gives me a hard time to post.

I had a craving for pizza, so i looked it up and saw an italian place. Went there, down the stairs into an empty fancy restaurant except one business woman.
Got seated, ordered an interesting looking pizza i hadnt got before (i think it was garlic based).
Waiter comes up to me

Ok sure? Food comes out in due time, and this is a tiny pizza. Like, for what i paid for i should've gotten 3 times the pizza. Ate it, delicious, but completly unsatisfied.
>Goes to pay
>price is higher because tax not included on menu.

ecbo cloak, shows you stores you can store luggage, even has reservation system

smartEX app, books bullet train tix, has discounts if you book early

go taxi for rides

deepl a better translation app

luup shows you mobile scooters

doko? shows you trash cans and bathrooms

payke app that allows you to scan japanese prodcuts and translates them perfectly

NAVITIME a better transit app, also really good because you can select a transit pass you have and it will preferentially show you routes for the pass

japan coupon shows you discount coupons for various stores, which many tourists dont take advantage of

as a rule of thumb i don't stay in guesthouses longer than 1 night, or capsules longer than 3 nights. so in principle i don't bring that much luggage with me, usually just a backpack or at most a carry-on-sized luggage. i'd suggest keeping the shit you need constant access to in a separate container that you keep in the capsule at all times while you lock up your main luggage in the locker room.

akiba is cleaner because it's becoming more tailored towards electronics and niche-gooning again instead of the place where weebs go to party and get deals on anime merch.

the bars in ueno are dead and akiba's filling up with con-cafes and actual nerd shit like shops that flip used electronics again instead of this weird phase it was in 5y ago where every other shop was selling anime shit and trading cards.

now that collecting is mainstream those businesses needed to hike prices and weebs / local otaku looking for good deals simply went elsewhere, leading those businesses to downscale/fail and con-cafes and techslop taking back their rightful place.

One cool thing you can do in Japan is get out of the downtowns and into to the suburbs or inaka to check out places that were built decades ago and have been fastidiously preserved since the day they opened.

There's a hotel about a 20 minute drive from my house that has a public sento, I go there like once a month for a soak and each time I'm blown away by waves of nostalgia for a time I wasn't even alive for. From the lobby to the bathhouse to the accompanying restaurant, each one looks like you walked on to a TV set for a show set in the 70s, and it's got that well-used-well-maintained imperfect cleanliness where you just know it's legit.

You also see a lot of roadside stations and rest stops like this, especially in Chubu, Kanto, and Kansai, and the vibes are ESPECIALLY hard at night.

This is my current Japanese trip this November (from the 4th to the 24th), I'm doing the meme golden triangle trip this time (second trip to Japan), but adding a few quirks.
I'm staying 4 days in Kyoto, 5 in Osaka, 2 in Nagoya and seven in Tokyo. However I won't spend all the time in those cities.

During my Kyoto stay I was thinking of visiting Uji, and Himeko too if I manage to see all I want to see in Kyoto in 2 days.
in Osaka, I'm planning a trip to Nara.
in Nagoya, a trip to Ise.
in Tokyo, I want to go to Chichibu, Kawasaki (mainly for the Doraemon museum), Yokohama and Kamakura. I'already been in tokyo for 13 days last time and I feel like I had my fill for the city. I'm avoiding Hakone and Nikko because I heard those two cities needs at least two full days, I was thinking of saving them for my next trip.

what do you think? I'm torn on the Chichibu part, I'd go there to see how a city in the middle of nowhere looks like mainyl.

>>2826021
Everyone I meet says Nagoya was a huge waste of time and should be avoided. It only gets so much traffic because it is the only major city inbetween Tokyo and Osaka

Only a week, you basically either stay the full week in Tokyo, or go to Osaka and then do a daytrip to Nara and Kyoto, but you'll be missing out on a lot by doing the latter since it will be very rushed.

I know how you feel I bought a house in Kure (Im a zogbot) and the closest city is Hiroshima. Its nice here but its an industrial town and that's all.
I hate the dating apps, its so low effort even in Japan. Even if you are just looking to get laid you honestly have better luck at the Nampa game or godforbid a gaijin bar. Even language exchanges are better
My current and possibly soon to be wafui I met scuba diving and just coincidentally saw her semi lewd cosplaying at Touhou Retasi and we hit it off. It was pure luck but all I can say is *your gonna make it*.
Oh yeah dont ever fuck with the DUI laws here anything over a .05 BAC is a felony. Daikos are cheap.

a)If it's your first time in Tokyo it's better to stay within the Yamanote line(JR) / Oedo line (toei) areas and visit everything there first.

b)Pick one of these free tourist guides
>pic
so you can see if two or more tourist spots you want to visit are close and you do not end up walking in circles thus making a more efficient use of your time. They have them in chinese, korean, english, japanese, spanish, portuguese, german, french and russian; mostly in big stations. It's a nice read while riding the subway when it goes too deep and the internet dies.

c)The 72hrs chikatoku card is the cheapest option if you are staying in the touristic circle only, but you cannot use it anywhere else. Only Toei and Tokyo metro. If the station has JR, Tsukuba or any other name on it you cannot enter with this card but there is no need to use any other railway if you are not leaving the city proper anyway.

d) Use the few/many Japanese words you know as much as you can.

e)7 eleven ATM usually offers the best conversion rate deals, they even give you the option to choose their conversion rate or your bank/country so do the calculations to get the cheapest one
>but I pay with card/app
Many businesses are cash only so you better have at least 1000yen pocket change at all times or you will be missing on great snacks and gacha toys (careful with these).

f)If a random guy (or more) approach you telling you they "want to practice their English with you and become friends" or "show you some real Japanese culture" there is a 95% chance they are cultists trying to scam you or get you to join their Buddhist sect. Be careful.

g)Do not accept the kyabakura, or drinking with bitches standing on the streets like prostitutes. They wont give you sex and you will have to pay overpriced alcohol AND their "company fee". You will get the same or even more female interaction by going at family friendly maid cafes with even cheaper prices. (some of them also sell alcohol).

Is it true that I should actually hold off on using the airport ATMs and instead do it at a konbini? I couldn't get ahold of cash in my country and my hotel in Tokyo where I'll be landing I'm gonna have to pay in cash, so I'm unsure when to withdraw, or where. The ATM fee of 1,7% seemed to be acceptable, but I'm always fine with finding better options
>>
>>2826161
Even konbini atms will have a lower rate than going to a dedicated currency exchange (outside of airports) also konbini ATMs only due a minimum of 10k yen is 99% of cases

You can't be this stupid right, you can't post 2 inverted pictures in a row and then complain you don't understand the most basic of foods.

Whats the confusing part?

A Japanese Hamburger Patty covered in Tomato Sauce with Cheese or Beef/Onion or Cheese?
Did you never encounter a Japanese Hamburger patty? It's minced meat with some bead and eggs in it. It's covered int tomato sauce here and other stuff.
Mentaiko, Squid, Tomtoes with Miso Soup, Fried Ginko Nuts, Salted Squid like what confusing you here? I even went and checked google lens it's all correctly translated.

>>2825100
Go to fucking doutour and eat a toast with butter and eggs like I don't know what to tell you. There is probably a 100 different fired food restaurants out there from Katsuya, Matsunoya, Hamkatsu, Tendon Tenya for the Tempura stuff, tons of ramenshops and chinese shops sell rice with friend foods like Hidakaya or Tenkaippin, you can get Bentos at places liek Hotto Motto. And there tons of man and pa shops like this everywhere.

You want breakfast? Go to any of the Japanese Starbucks clones, you can grab a Sando in a konbini, you can grab a Taco with some fillings there too, you can eat various fried chickens there too and stuff like meat buns. Go to Pao Pao and Tokyo and grab some Meatbuns or Shuumai or something.

Jesus christ you can't be this low IQ or autistic or whatever. This HAS TO BE BAIT.

Half of the western tourists these last years coming to Japan?
It's cheap, they can take pretty pictures of that temple in Kyoto with the red doors and post their original matcha latte™ on their feed. Food is whatever, so McDonalds and Starbucks it is for them, with the obligatory sushi on wheels.
At least you don't encounter those types besides touristy sites.
>>
>>2826197
The entire North/North West of the city has no access to Public transport but busses from Kinimigaoka, Sakuragaoka, Ashjigaoka, Nankodai, Tsurugaya. Same thing goes for South East/ East.

It's all fuckign JR Bus and that means it's a Car city.

You can cover maybe 40% of the city with the Subway, JR lines.

i shouldve made this post yesterday but whatever. i met a girl online, im 99% sure shes legit. Found a cheap ass flight and im going to take a few days off of school, go out and see her. We are going to travel somewhere for two nights, but we dont know where yet, probably Nara and Kyoto. Going to be middle of october. Just looking for recs for semi romantic 36 hour getaways in fall. Ive already been to nara and kyoto, but she wants to go to nara and we both want to finish climbing fushimi inari, but open to going elsewhere.

Going to Japan with some friends in a few weeks, things happened and it looks like I'm gonna be by myself for a week after most folk leave.
Gonna be in Tokyo waiting for my flight, and I was just curious what you guys would all recommend doing solo there.
Any day trips I can do without having to worry about the rest of the group vetoing it?
Anything that's just worth having a look at by myself.
I'm a bit worried I'm gonna be bored and just hermit myself away in my accomodation or wander around Akihabara for a week straight and wanna get ahead of that and make some plans now.

Eat at a local izakaya tonight. Get the miso sauce. Have a cold sake at 4 o’clock in a mostly empty bar. Go somewhere you’ve never been. Listen to someone you think may have nothing in common with you. Order the wagyu rare. Eat a sea urchin. Have a shochu highball. Have two. Be open to a world where you may not understand or agree with the person next to you, but have a drink with them anyways. Eat slowly. Thank your server. Check in on your friends. Check in on yourself. Enjoy the ride.
