New York feels crowded and restrictive. Pennsylvania is more relaxed.
I visited NYC as a kid a couple times and I don't feel any particular urge to return.
>>
Meth, oxycontin, fentanyl, trying not to get murdered because "you don't look like you're from around here boah", mining coal, having sexual relations with your siblings, parents, and children, squealing like a pig, drinking moonshine, losing your teeth

PA is not a southern state. Bad bait.

Culturally, the region between Altoona and Harrisburg has more in common with northwestern Georgia than with the Philadelphia metro area.

Did you know Altoona has wood fired pizza on offer?

If you have a car, some world tier mountain fun and scenery
If you aren't able to drive, depression and expensive alcohol

Hardmode would be going to Philly.

Alright I actually like Philly although a large portion of it is a dump.

To answer your question the Frank Lloyd Wright Falling Water house is an actual masterpiece that even the most cynical would appreciate it.

That house is also semi-close to Pittsburgh which is the superior Pennsylvania city.

I'm from New Castle. Come here and eat great Lebanese food, pizza and fries on salad, our specialty

Also the central mountains are very nice. Presque Isle in Erie is worth seeing.

Pittsburgh has all the amenities of a big city. I had fun checking out the allegheny cemetary, eating eastern european and asian food and checking out the old architecture

Pennsylvanian hillbillies live in real homes, not dilapidated trailers. The Pennsylvania woods are less wealthy and culturally refined as the farm country of upstate New York, but compared to West Virginia, rural Pennsylvanians are very neat and disciplined people.
>>2824587
Amtrak's Pennsylvanian has daily service between NYC and Pittsburgh. You could visit quite a few Pennsylvanian towns that way. BTW don't visit Pennsylvania in winter. Everything is brown and gray and damp and cold and miserable.

>Pittsburgh has all the amenities of a big city.

Seems like it, but all of those amenities are in the suburbs. Downtown Pittsburgh is ass, one of the most disappointing downtowns I've visited.
>>

Downtown Pittsburgh has a large park, football stadium, baseball stadium, hockey stadium, theaters. Heinz history museum. I could go on and on.

Which were all fine. But the restaurant scene was unremarkable and there weren't a lot of night life options. Also the public transportation infrastructure was trash.

>Frank Lloyd Wright Falling Water house is an actual masterpiece that even the most cynical would appreciate it.

The house is empty and while it does have a good view at the balcony the inside of the house is nothing special. So it is kind of like this place that looks great from the outside, but they didn't care about the inside. I was disappointed.

I was literally just there a few weeks ago
The house is fully decorated with gorgeous vintage furniture.

Cherry Springs State Park (one of the darkest spots on the east coast), great for stargazing.
Any of the Elk Country forests - Huge swaths bigger than most states full of pristine forest and wild elk populations,
>>

>Cherry Springs State Park
why do people always say that
there's nothing fucking there
I mean, don't get me wrong the roadside overlooks on 44 are nice but it's kinda meh as a park.
Ridge rd in elk (county?) has some really nice views (norcross vista) but I think most of the hiking trails are mega overgrown and don't really lead anywhere.

>Lawrenceville is cool. There's also tons of stuff downtown. Sorry it's not Manhattan

I can tell downtown has been hollowed out over the decades. Most of the retail and storefronts are catered towards day traffic, few cater to evening clienteles. In fact, what was noticeable in downtown during the evenings was how empty and quite the streets were. The city was hit hard by suburbanization, there's more stuff going on in the suburbs than the downtown core. Shit, there's more stuff going on for evening entertainment in the backwater shithole that I live in than in downtown Pittsburgh.

aren't the Appalachian mountains crazy beautiful? or are they somehow not hike friendly?
>>
>>2825431
>or are they somehow not hike friendly?
depends where you go + what you mean
in general PA dirt roads are less terrifying + unkempt vs a place like WV, but a lot of fun hikes are pretty hard to get to and some of the hikes involve an insane level of steep (descend 400 ft in a quarter mile to chimney rock)
half dome of pa is legendary hard if you want an example - pine creek is the steepest major waterway

there's also rocksylvania - the ridge and valley closer to the SE, its generally easier to access but good luck on your feet cuz its point fucking rocks and scree fields you have to walk through

I have lots of recommendations for the plateau though if you are interested...
