I planned on visiting Madeira sometimes in November/December for about a week and I was thinking of doing couple of hikes and generally explore the island. However, i was thinking of maybe going for one night to Porto Santo with a ferry. Is that doable or is it too much ? It takes about 2,5 hours to get there which is not long. Has anybody done it ? Also any general recommendation would be appreciated. Hikes I planned> PR9 Levada do Caldeirão Verde>PR 8 – Vereda da Ponta de São Lourenço>PR 6 – Levada das 25 Fontes>if i got to Porto Santo then also PS PR 1 - Vereda do Pico Branco e Terra Chã
>actually know how to build railings at the very edge instead of a few feet away crippling the viewslooks nice but um it looks very dry - not my thing
>>2827889>drythis is only in Porto Santo (a smaller island off the main Madeira island withing the archipelago). The biggest island withing the archipelago is actually quite lush and green, looks like a paradise. It's the island of eternal spring. Temperatures are always between 18-25 degrees.
>>2827893they are really good at railingsyou aren't really telling us how hard these hikes are or what shape you are inI don't like serrated shapes like that. I prefer smoother rounded hills that stack.
>>2827896They are not that hard of hikes and not too long. I am in quite good shape rn as I daily go walking/hiking at least 20km. Also the inclinations arent that high in any of these and th scenery is breathtaking. Additionally I am planning to buy Salomon x ultra 5 gore tex, did you have experience with them so far ? I am kind of torn between them, merrel speed and hoka kaha 3 but I am pretty sure I will go with the salomons.
>>2827899I walked ~ 3km yesterday and it took me nearly 4 hours because it was a combination of slippery wooden steps and lots of them, a rocky inclined trail up a gorge side and I was already sore from other hikes this week. I guess you have nothing to worry about.
>>2827916slippery WET wooden steps cuz it had rained the day before*
