am planning a 6 wk summer trip (mid May - late June) to visit East Asia (China/HK, Korea, and Japan). is 6k USD enough to last me?? I want to have more of a down-to-earth/backpacking experience and stay at cheaper hotels/hostels and possibly with whoever I meet on my journey to save money. Is EA good for that or should I plan a SEA/Central Asia trip instead?
>>
you'll be fine dude
especially if you're planning on hostels etc. you could probably do it on 4k

budget is fine assuming you are not including flight tickets
but not sure 6 weeks for China, Korea, and Japan will be enough
Japan alone could easily keep you occupied for 2-3 weeks.

Yea, I was thinking of spending more time in China/Japan than Korea. 3 weeks in China/HK (Shanghai/Chongqing/Xi'an/Kunming), 1 week in Korea (honestly could be even less, only going because a friend will be there to show me around), and 2 weeks in Japan.

Any advice on if I should start with China -> Korea -> Japan or Japan first?

alright a China - Japan trip with a pitstop in Korea sounds more reasonable.
I am not that well versed on china specifically so can't help you with itinerary direction but two items on my China bucket list have always been Chengdu and Zhangjiajie (the Avatar cliffs) ...
