Anyone ever drive from the north to Florida? Looking to do this route from Toronto to Miami next spring to go to an event.

The last two years I've flown and the flight goes for $3-400CAD and the car rental is about $3-400 CAD for the week. Is it retarded to consider driving down instead? I've driven upto 16 hours in one straight shot before.

Thousands of Canadian snowbirds drive from Canada to Florida every winter. It's a tiresome slog on interstate highways. Traffic jams do happen. Police monitor speed everywhere. You get to experience the bleakness of freeway exit "civilization", big gas stations and franchise restaurants with fat people waddling to and from their cars. Every now and then you see a hot girl, but within a few seconds she's either went into the building or gotten back into her car.

go through WV it's really pretty and you can stop at the new river gorge and see the bridge and/or do a hike above the gorge if you have time
also recommend the brady bend overlook if you have time its not ON the way but it isn't far
there's old growth trees at cook forest state park

>for the week
What exactly are you going to even see? That's a four hour drive every day, it's going to wear you out not to stop anywhere.

This basically. Driving late at night can alleviate some of this, but you run the risk of night construction.

if you go to see the bridge, spend an extra hour or so to do the drive down into the gorge and under the bridge, it's a pretty neat drive. it's public one way switch backs all the way down and back up, road starts near the visitor center, but not really marked, but you can see it on a map program.

8 hour drive is my limit.
It would take me three painful days to drive there, and three painful days to drive back.
Which I would never do because flying is the obvious answer.

until the wings snap off because you boarded a boeing, lol

Yes from New England
Don't do it it's fucking hell
>>
>>2828698
You are going to be MISERABLE after that drive down and then you'll spend the week dreading the trip back home

Fly. Price alternate airports like Buffalo or Detroit

That's hardly a bad drive and there's cool shit all along the way down Appalachia if OP enjoys nature.
>>
I’ve done the drive from Michigan a few times, either the western route on I-75 or the one through West Virginia then I veer off through Ohio. Apart from Appalachia it sucks—I-95 or 75 through Atlanta are hell on wheels. Try to time it so you’re going through the mountains during daylight, and do Atlanta either late at night or dawn if you go that way. Scenery, Appalachian crafts and music, and Civil War battlefields north of Atlanta are good reasons to linger and take a break.

Dont forget your piss bottles.

You're going to spend $300-400CAD on gas and food round trip if you drive. Instead of getting to Miami in a couple of hours now it's a couple of days. Think about what your own time is worth

>That's hardly a bad drive
t. retard

>Scenery
>Appalachian crafts and music
>Civil War battlefields
I think OP is just trying to get to Florida he wasn't asking about boring shit to do on the way
>>
Why not drive to New York or Detroit and fly from there?
>>
>>2828698
I did upstate New York to Miami. Stopped in Alexandria VA, Savannah, and Orlando along the way. Great time.

My family used to drive up to Chicago every summer. We'd stop at rest stops and sleep in the car (or motorhome when we had one). It's a very long drive, but not a bad one, I'd really recommend not trying it in one go. It's not safe and you'll seriously feel like shit. You'll enjoy driving through Appalachia if you take more scenic routes. Stop at Cookout when you're in the south. Avoid Atlanta at all costs.

>Cookout
If you like a high amount of low quality slop, it's hard to beat
>>

I did Boston to DC once and it was a grueling, boring 8 hour slog
can't imagine doing even more
i've found i can't be bothered driving longer than 4 hours. 4 hours is just short enough to still be tolerable
>>
>>2830327
t. doesn't have adaptive cruise control
also that's LITERALLY the most boring highway possible the goal there is to get the most people from a to b as rapidly as possible it's not meant to be scenic it's meant to connect cities, you have to go west towards the mountains if you want pretty
>>
>>2828698
I did a straight trip down 95 to Jacksonville from Pittsburgh in 7 hrs slamming the pedal to see my ex
Only 1 gas stop
Cooked tf out of my engine
Never seen so many gators in all my life
>>

I’ve don’t this exact drive through the right unhighlighted path. Retarded 19 year old, Drove straight off multiple energy drinks in winter and only slept for like 2 hours in a gas station parking lot. almost swerved into a cop car falling asleep Fatigue is no joke on those 10+ hour drives. You gotta break it up into like 1-2 motels at least. you probably save a couple hundred but you also run up your mileage.
>>
>>2830523
Actually scratch that you’ll be paying a bit in gas. You’re probably better off flying unless you wanna plan around round trip stuff. I think the price would be comparable minus the rental car.

*plan around road trip stuff
