Post your favorite trip you've taken, and explain why it was your favorite.
I'll start with my trip to Southern Germany last summer.

Munich
>Flew into Munich, took transit to a youth hostel which would be my main base camp
>Walk around, explore randomly
>Day trip to Vienna. Explore and hike randomly, take cable car up to super tall mountain, hike there
>Group tour to the Eagle's nest
>Free tour of downtown Munich from the hostel

Heidelberg
>Take train to Heidelberg, stay at another youth hostel
>Explore castle, walk around and explore and whatnot
>10 mile hike up the big hill, following the Neckar river to Neckarsteinach. Have lunch while looking at the river, then take a boat back to Heidelberg.
>Went to Heidelberg zoo
>Before taking the train back to Munich, get currywurst and ice cream, traverse the bridge

Munich again
>Go back to original youth hostel, cook in the kitchen
>Ride bike in the rain and explore randomly, go to a river to check it out
>Take transit to ride an alpine coaster
>Go to olympic park, explore and swim in the pool

Why this trip was so great:
>Cheap ($2000 something, flights included for ~2 weeks)
>I was alone and could do whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted
>Hot women at the hostels just came up and talked to me. This Polish girl in particular totally wanted it but I had/have a gf
>People were very friendly. I'd have nice chats with old folks on the train or at the bus stop. Young dudes my age next to me on the train were happy to talk as well. People smiled while I chatted with old folks on the train because they thought it was sweet
>First time traveling solo, and first time going to Europe as an adult
>I'm about half ethnically German, so Germany was always extremely cool and exotic to me (a burger)

Best day was probably at Heidelberg, doing the 10 mile hike and taking the boat back. Amazing day

I am kind of similar where I am half German and American. I want to go to Munich, Berlin, Hamburg, I really want to take the time to explore the whole county within reason of course. Any tips?

Yes, actually:
1. Buy the Deutschland-Ticket for transit. One month of transit (excluding ICE trains) for $50. Buying it in the US is a pain in the ass because most vendors require a European address. I didn't sit in a car once in my entire trip.
2. Seat reservations on the trains are annoying, well, if you don't have one. You can sit somewhere marked "free", but then someone else can arrive and say that it's their seat, and you must find another.
3. Choose your hostels wisely. My favorite was "the tent" in munich. Least favorite was at this hotel place in Heidelberg by the train station. I shared a room with two Indians, they were acting disgusting and I told them that they were the worst roommates I've ever had and that they should be ashamed of themselves before leaving.
4. Meticulously plan a variety of activities you want to do, but not necessarily on exact dates. Give yourself the option to choose any one of your planned activities on any planned day. It was raining on the day I wanted to hike around Neuschwanstein, so I did a bike ride in the rain instead and had a great time.
5. Germans will detect that you are an American based on your accent, and probably begin to reply to you in English. Don't take it personally, they probably just want to practice their English. Sometimes when they begin speaking in English I just keep speaking in German, they relent, and we talk only in German.
6. Don't be afraid to talk to people, within reason. In my experience, people are happy to talk if you have a happy face and don't look disheveled. Most people actually initiated the conversations, not me.

The rest is really just personal preference. I personally recommend staying in places with kitchens, buying groceries, and trying to cook German meals. I also highly recommend exploring the countryside and enjoying the nature. I don't know much about Munich nor Hamburg.

Thanks, the countryside sounds just as valuable as the major cities. I am interested in Poland as well. Day trip to Vienna sounds great too. I really got to get over there it sounds very pleasant the way you describe it. I’ve met Dutch and they are assholes but Germans I’ve met are friendly and goofy normally.

No prob. Damn, are you me? I'm thinking of Poland as the next trip. What activities are you planning?

Right now I'm thinking of doing some geothermal baths and hiking in the south.

I want to see Warsaw and Krakow for sure and Gdansk also seems cool. I do things like that on my trips but I’m more of like a city explorer type. Hiking in Germany, Poland, Switzerland, the whole of middle Europe seems unreal.

I was in the Navy for a while. I spent a year in Sasebo. God it was good. This was back in 2003, before the rest of you fuckers discovered that country and it wasn’t flooded with Jeets and nogs and lame ass nerds. I had my own government issued truck that I called white lightning, it was a Nissan hardbody pickup with 5 on the tree. I’d cruise the streets of Fukuoka smoking cigarettes and getting shit housed off of Chu Hi. I’d park in some parking garage for the night and go stumble around Tenjin till some jap lady asked me to go back to a love hotel. Yeah, that’s how it was, I had women pull up to me in a cab and ask me to get inside to take me to a love hotel at 4 am. I can’t even tell people my stories of that place because it seems so unbelievable. Diving off ryutesen falls with my buddies while a bunch of japs looked on with wonder at how insane we were was amazing.

Kotor
>early 2010s so not too run out, still moderately cheap
>great weather
>tail end of me and my brothers trip so we weren’t too worried about packing much sightseeing in
>rent a shitty outboard from a local
>farmers market. Great local produce for a picnic
>cruse around the islet with a couple big titted french chicks & a fun Aussie dude from the hostel
>throw a watermelon against the side of a cruise ship
>>
Bump cmon guys I want to copy your vacations

Albania -> Hiking Valbone - Theth
>tail end of covid
>gf and I decided to take a week traveling alone after being stuck together in a smallish flat for ages
>she went via Italy and ferry to Corfu, I went via Zadar - Split and Montenigger)
>Meet, get bus to Bajram Curri (used to be pretty lawless a few decades back)
>Get taxi to Valbone, taxi driver stops us off everywhere for photos and gets us drinks lol, he must've been close to 0 profit
>Stock up on booze, etc, then pitch up a tent at foot of mountain
>Spend the day slowly climbing
>I'm in fliflops, carrying a big backpack and a stick. Hard going
>At the top there's fucking ice and vertical drops. End up having to somehow climb around some huge ice block
>Beautiful views, etc. Insanely beautiful.
>Descending on other side, time's against us.
>Find a flat bit of land on open street maps, decide it's our goal to set up the tent
>Reality matches map. Pitch up, gather firewood. Make a nice fucking fire overlooking the Theth valley under the stars
>Chilling out with a grill and booze, decide to drop some MDMA
>Get naked next to fire and play around, pretty fucking high
>Wild horse comes and stands next to us and the fire

ugh, was meant to say 'met in Tirane' in the middle.
journey looked like picrel. forgot i stopped off in Sarajevo.
>meet German guy walking from Leverkusen to Athens
>go out with him and some hot slut
>she tells us how she's trust-fund-maxxed and has a rando itinerary of some bullshit like flying from Ecuador - Japan - Bosnia - Kenya, lmao
>find some spot to chill with booze by the river
>she tells us how she was forced to travel as her ghetto boyfriend was dragging her into drugs
>ends up sucking off cops in south america, etc
>German reveals he has gear, i laugh and show him my stash
>Girl says she can't do that shit any more and demands to go home.
>We say 'lol cya' and she storms off
>End up getting fucked up. German starts litter picking when high and calling the locals savages
>End up in the centre at 4am or so
>He leaves phone on bench when asking some refugee type for a lighter
>Some refugee type steals his phone and fucks
>Sour end to a decent night.
