Followed by a "I feel fine" the next day, before a hard fucking crash on the 2/3rd days followed by constant catchup because of making up for lost time.

Take 2 Beers, melatonin, take a shower, get in bed, read a book (read an article on your phone or bible app. Any reading will do) until you knock out. I did this and slept for 11 hours and adjusted on the first day of my travels. The first night is very important and I make sure I find a hotel that has deep dark curtains and quiet neighborhood.
