I’ve met several people irl from that country, and it seems pretty chill and welcoming. Recently, they’ve waived visa requirements for us (Colombia). From what I’ve researched, the cost of living is similar to ours and as long as I avoid talking about the gov, be respectful and learn basic Russian, a three-month trip sounds like it could be nice. btw I WFH and have decent savings, so money shouldn’t be an issue—especially if I can find someone willing to rent me an apartment. Any tips? Also what is the catch?

The catch is that it's boring as fuck and everyone is miserable. Especially if you come from a fun, friendly culture like Latin America, you'll quickly want to kill yourself
You might think I'm joking, but I'm not, unfortunately

It's a trap, luka's gonna send you to the front

More like over the border to Poland. But that was a while back and only with brown people

It's cheap but expensive to get there.
You can't cross the land border as a foreigner, the visa free is only if you arrive on a plane.

Very interesting, any idea why that is? surprisingly my country (Australia) is visa-free there

>and everyone is miserable

Why is that?

My guess would be that it has something to do with the band of international finance backed Jewish terrorists that took over the former Russian Empire and murdered the monarch before subjecting the people to a campaign of mass murder, political terror and persecution of faith that lasted generations and left tens of millions murdered.
Things that like made the national character less jolly I suppose.

That would do it yeah

Lenin famously was in bed with international banking groups... Your attempt at applying 1 theory to every single aspect of global history and events is Africa-tier.

Minsk is a mini-Moscow between the Baltic and Black Sea basins. It's on slightly elevated land, but has no real natural fortification. As such, it's constantly been a victim of raids. Locals have no chance but to submit to whoever is the regional power.

As such, a sense of submission and insularity is going to set in. If your people are used to paying huge taxes to nobility, being burnt down in wars, and having foreigners come and go, you're not going to be open and smiley to them.

Belarus is at a very high latitude. The long harsh winters are not conducive to joyousness. Go to Lithuania if you want to be around nicer people - it's become a lot more expensive, however.
