Melbourne has been voted the best city in the world based on liveability, food, nightlife and culture. In your experience, is Melbourne really that good?
lots of cool bars, pubs, cafes, restaurantsgood for live musicpretty neighbourhoodsI wasn't a big fan of the CBDextensive tram network but whoever designed it was a retard and made the trams run in the same lanes as the traffic instead of having their own separate lanes, meaning the trams are constantly stuck in traffic and it's faster to walk.... also the trams seem to break down a lot
It's just too big. It takes forever to get anywhere
the REAL melbourne I think youll find really is that good. totally walkable and the CBD is always on point
>>2833546I live there, inner suburbs are great if you are young, heaps to do and easy public transport via trams. Cost if living is fucked so expect to spend a lot on food and accommodation.
>>2833546Of course. The gayest and most covid tyrannical city on earth is the most livable. It's like these leftarded vaxcattle love living in dystopia.
It's a good city with tons of stuff to do, tons of events every weekend, sometimes even more than Sydney. Weather can be really gay though sometimes.
>>2833708>It's just too big. Then why do Australians keep saying "fuck off we're full"?
>>2834445We mean in our crowded areas, our jobs and housing.
>>2834445Because they're all crammed into a narrow slither of coast on the Pacific, as opposed to the fucking hellscape which constitutes most of their country. They need to get to work on terraforming that shit. Flood Lake Eyre, redivert some rivers, mass build desal plants, go to war with snakes and spiders, and create a green and pleasant land.
>>2834486>go to war with snakes and spiders,Pussy
>>2833546What the fuck? Really? melbourne is expensive as fuck. Good food and cool culture stuff sure, but liveability?
Im working the tram renewal on Victoria/Elizabeth street. Anyways im finished there now, no more shifts
>>2834748Based builder. Fancy coming over to the UK? Wouldn't mind some trams out here.
>>2834752We have the largest tram network in the world. Lots of different teams all do their part.Funnily you find most construction guys leave the UK and want to stay here because its a dystopian hell hole. Pains me because my grandparents are English
>>2833716This looks a lot like my small American town (minus the mountain backdrop)>>2834746COL correlates quite well with livability. Even Third World countries are surprisingly expensive if you are looking for First World livability.
>>2834927Fair enough. I've been there a handful of times. It certainly is a more beautiful city then Sydney. There are a lot of buildings that preserves Victorian England aesthetics. And one time came across a large procession of what appear to be an orthodox christian ceremony and their fancy headwear was honestly cool as fuck. Their public transport falls behind Sydney though
>>2834767>most construction guys leave the UK and want to stay hereit's because even entry level construction jobs in australia pay more than late career white collar jobs do in the uk
Kleptomaniac horrible weather sickly city that rarely sleeps. Rent food etc expensive but you’ll always have something to do…if you have the money for it. People look miserable and dress terribly attention seeking, it is a left leaning place but the most ‘bright’ suburbs are usually the most expensive, gentrified shitholes like Fitzroy. As far as Australian big cities go though it’s pretty high on the list, the nocturnal culture aided by its long days of sun (alien to northern Aus) paired with everything staying open until 10 o clock on any given day is appealing for sure coming from up north. More interesting than Sydney or Brisbane etc but you’re paying with the weather
>>2835219>long days of sunThis is something I found really weird about Australia. The summer sunset at like 5:30 pm in summer in Brisbane but the sunrise is at 4:30 am. In the US they adjusted things to have sunsets later, Jacksonville FL is roughly the same distance from the equator and the sunset in June is at 8:30 pm and the sunrise well after 6 am. I live in California the sunset is 8 pm in the middle of summer, and in Seattle it's almost 10 pm, a winter sunset is like 5 here. It made the country feel boring especially since most things closed much earlier than they do in the US.
Is it possible for an American to pay his own way across Australia by working illegal day labor jobs? Or are Australians too afraid of the nanny state to even consider such an offer.
>>2835329Watch Wake in Fright (1971) for some inspiration on how to handle Australia off the beaten track.
>>2835294Strange because I grew up in QLD and am used to the 6pm sunset. Then I visit anywhere else and realise its not normal>>2835329Yes cash in hand jobs are attainable, go onto gumtree Jobs and shoot messages you’ll land something. Or the fruit picking
>>2835329You Seppos are not in our good books right now so you might struggle a bit.
>>2835329It's possible for any person to pay their way through illegal jobs anywhere in the world, so why mention specifically Americans in Australia? Larping much?
>>2835332That Australia is long gone.
Yes. I wouldn't live anywhere else. For whatever reason the city is polarising. I think the fact so many people adore it pisses off some Australians who want to drag it down out of spite.
American in Australia. Australia is just an extension of the USA these days.>No culture of their own >Only thing to do at night is go to night clubs, drugs, sports, break into cars, and get tattoos >Population is globohomo mystery meat>Cities are dominated by the same USA conglomerates and megacorporations>US TV shows, movies, music dominates the local culture>Entire population under 40 has been raised on US internet and US culture>In many cases the youth use American English more than Australian English>Brisbane only has hotels, rooftop bars and drugs in the valley>Gold Coast homeless and number of people living below the poverty line>Sydney only has malls and the Opera House, Bridge and Sydney Harbour>Melbourne only has homeless everywhere in the CBD, the cocaine culture and St Kilda beach>Australian cities generally consist of a small center, referred to as the CBD (Central Business District), surrounded by an increasingly endless sprawl of suburbs>Regional towns only have ice and meth>Uni is full of Chinese and Indians >Car industry is gone>Makes nothing, imports everything. Doesn't even refine or otherwise add value to the commodities it exports because "that's too fkn complicated mate", instead imports the finished products>The inability to merge, give way, general courtesy on the road is disgusting>Aussies love gambling, Melbourne cup, Australian online pokies>paying 15-25 bucks for a pint of beer means it's too expensive to have a night out>a lot of restaurants in the CBD have jacked up their prices recently — some by as much as 30%. When I asked a few owners why, they all said the same thing: rent hikes>Brisbane and Gold Coast women are the most shallow superficial materialistic gold digging women>Most lads renting in share houses and doing drugs to cope with the housing crisis
>>2834927>mountain>FloridaTrust me, that is a cloud.>t. walked down this same street two weeks ago
cities are fucking stupidnature is where it's at
>>2838025This. All cities = globohomo. Nature = actual /trv/.
>>2833546>based on liveability, food, nightlife and culturefood and nightlife as categories lmao>>2833708It would be interesting to see honest comparisons of smaller student towns (60-120k inhabitants, at least 15k university students).>>2837688>Gold Coast womenAre women from the Gold Coast the best looking ones in Australia? And why would Aussie women be Gold Diggers when the Australia is so rich and has so many well paying jobs? It's one of the few easy mode countries and probably the best one if you consider the nature.
>>2834274>Weather can be really gaywat
>>2837688You already posted this about Europe, and were proven wrong. So now you're trying to claim the same thing about Australia. It's the USA that's part of the anglokike-controlled "West", not the other way around.>>2838025There's a balance to strike. The easiest and cheapest routes to travel are always those which run between cities. Heading off into the back of beyond can be fun, and the characters you meet are more interesting than your average NPC urbanite, but you have to deal with a dearth of lodging & dining options, and chances are the only way out is back the way you came.
>>2838023ayyyy lmao someone got it
>>2838645How often do you go? I just passed through today again. (I also saw the Goodyear blimp).
>>2838992lived there many years ago. havent been since before covid
>>2838564well its been 11 degrees C and raining all day in the final month of spring. but it always does this in spring. melbourne has less rain than sydney annually
>>2833546>best city in the world based on liveability, food, nightlife and cultureThat's just a measurements of how pozzed it is
>>2838553Australia doesn't have student towns, except for armidale
>>2836817t. hasn't lived in alice springs
Melbourne is full. Fuck off
>>2837688haha god you're reaching, have a (You) and hope that your shithole country is not going to fall apart
Heading to Melbourne for a few months for uni, any tips to make the most of it?
